Home Building, Landscaping
Our original roofing contractor was injured on the job and he sub-contracted the new roof to the Fords. We had a leak before the roof was completely finished which was attributed to caulking. In the following months, we developed a larger leak and I called them numerous times to make repairs - but no response. Earlier this month. I got estimates from other larger roofing companies and contracted to have the defects repaired. The current roofing contractor has pointed out that the workmanship of the Fords is of the very poorest quality, even though one of the Ford team allegedly has a MSU Master's Degree in building construction. For example, there are various layers of roofing - either 1, 2, of 3 layers; the new layer of shingles was put on areas of rotted wood, the flashing was not installed correctly, nails that were too short for 3 layers of shingles were used and hence, the new shingles were only attached to the earlier layer of shingles and not to the roofing beams, patches that were made to the plywood were replaced with the wrong size plywood, etc., etc.
Our original contractor has been in contact with the Fords (since they will not answer or respond to my calls) and the Fords have indicated to our original contractor that the work was not faulty. They deny responsibility. Yes, we got taken!
The expense for the repairs is almost half of the whole roofing job which will all need to be replaced. One good strong wind and we may lose some shingles since they are attached to an under layer of shingles and not to the wooden beams. Right now, we are stretching to afford the $3200 of minimal repairs and hopefully they will not leak (as they can't be guaranteed without replacing the whole roof.)
