About us

All Phase Remodeling, Inc. is a design/build company established in 1985 by Lyle Whittaker, C.G.R. to serve the Greater Lansing Area. The name All Phase Remodeling was chosen out of a desire to assist clients with "all phases" of home improvement and to meet the changing needs of our clients over the years - from great room additions for the growing family, to converting bathtubs into showers and adding grab bars or ramps for those who need to make their homes safer as they age-in-place. As a Design/Build firm we can offer our clients "one-stop shopping" - from designing the project with your budget in mind to constructing the project according to the designs and material specification. Heather McDonald has been assisting our clients to achieve the best design to suit their needs since she came on board in June of 1999. We have trained and experienced carpenters on-staff to construct these projects with the quality and precision that you have come to expect from All Phase Remodeling. Our Lead Carpenter, Mike Langtry, has been with us since 1992. Over the years we have developed a wonderful team of sub-contractors we can rely on for electrical, plumbing, drywall, and other specialty work. We hope that our many years of experience in the remodeling field in the Greater Lansing Area will convey confidence and trust in our company. We look upon our clients as our growing family so we strive to provide a friendly, efficient and comforting experience that will enhance your home forever and have you revisit All Phase Remodeling, Inc for future remodeling projects. Cost is determined by job.

Lyle gave me a competitive estimate and a reasonable start date. He took great care to make sure the door style in the new room matched the existing doors and his painter did a superior job matching the existing stain for the new doors and wood work. His carpenter Mike is amazing. Heather was great about answering all of my questions during the entire project. My realtor told me that the new room added a lot of value to my new house.

They sent a representative out to watch my wife and see how she gets around the house. They were very knowledgeable and cared about what she needed.  They arrived on time. They used subcontractors and everything flowed well. They cleaned the area well. She loves the new bathroom.

The company has a very accommodating staff.  They listened to our needs and quickly produced a couple proposed layouts for the remodeling job.  We reviewed their plans and suggested changes that they incorporated and then they produced a final proposal with a detailed description of the work to be done.   We agreed to the proposal and they began work on the project.  They had sub-contractors who provided various services and all the work seemed to be done in a very professional an careful manner.  They were extremely effective in dirt control and the work sight was kept tidy through all the phases of construction.  We had no issues with the quality or timeline for the job.  All-Phase did all the work to obtain the proper clearances, permits and inspections.  We were extremely impressed with the results.

These folks were great. We had bought a house the year previous and felt like we really needed to get the work done so we could finally move in. They put in a wall with French doors, replacing an opening and an odd pole/shelf combo that really didn't fit. The team was careful to match the original decor and building style, a 1930s cape cod, staying within our budget. We felt some urgency to get the job done (because we had waited so long to get started and get moved in)--so they got the job started within a week or so of our first call. While they took the time they needed to do a quality job, they made sure they were at our place regularly, pretty much every day until the job was done. They made sure to consult us if anything unexpected happened, as well as answering all of our questions and making sure we were happy with the progress. I feel like they did exactly what we asked and made suggestions for improvements, giving us options and alternatives they thought would work as well or better than what we'd envisioned. I was made to feel comfortable with their expertise and professionalism. I am glad we found them and would call them first for future work.

We have used All Phase Remodeling Inc off and on for the last few years. They are reliable, they are responsive, usually the same day, to my questions, they are efficient, they protect my floors and furniture from bringing equipment in and out, the pricing has been right, the quality is extremely good, and I wouldn't hesitate to call them again if I needed something.

I really liked All Phase Remodeling. They were real prompt and they followed through on everything they said they do. I would highly recommend them. The quality of their work was good. I felt like they knew what they were doing, had good ideas, and did good work. I would use them again and actually just called them a little while ago.

Lead was discovered on the rear door job, so they prepared the site to comply with EPA standards for closing off the site.  This required the use of a tent-like structure of canvas and plastic sheets.    The existing step-down had to be modified for safety purposes with an addition to the existing step.  Lyle Whittaker, owner of the company, worked closely with me to build the new step, to ensure that it would provide a safe step-down.  One example was the grip additive that he added to the paint to keep the step from being slippery.
I hired Lyle because his company installed my Pella windows 15 years ago and I have not had any problems with them since, and because I trusted him.  He uses quality products; he is very responsive to my concerns - I was able to discuss the various aspects of the job with him so there would be no problems.  He and his staff were here when they said they would be.   They were very professional and considerate in their dealings with me.  They did not leave any messes and their drop cloths were clean.
I am currently using All Phase to do some painting elsewhere in the house.
I highly recommend All Phase for their quality of work and attention to detail.

They were once again prompt, respectful, and skilled. They left no mess. I have one or two more phases to go in our replacement project - I will absolutely use All-Phase to do the work. They are not the cheapest, but I love having absolutely no doubt that they will do the job exactly as they said they will. They're fabulous.

Best aspects of the contractor:
1)  He has his own stable of workers (carpenters, plumbers, tile setters, etc.), most of whom have worked for him for many years.2)  Provides a full-time design consultant who was very knowledgeable and helpful.  Was able to send us to lesser known fixture suppliers, and tile sellers.  The fixture supplier was in Lansing, and we got the names of two tile retailers in Grand Rapids. All excellent.3)  Clean up at the end of each and every day was exceptional.  We could have had a dinner party on any evening during construction, an not been inconvenienced (we have a second full bath).  Workers took special pains not to track through dust, dirt, etc.  4)  All workers were extremely careful in removing the contents of the old bath.  No bumps or dents to the walls or woodwork in other rooms they needed to pass through.
On the down side:
Probably a little on the pricey side, but not by too much for a job this size.  We certainly didn't try to save money by getting cheaper replacement window, cheaper tile or counter top, or cheaper fixtures, such as the tub/shower, or sink..

OVERALL, ALLPHASE IS A VERY GOOD QUALITY COMPANY. OUR FIRST BIG PROJECT WITH THEM WENT SMOOTHY AND THE WORK PERFORMED WAS VERY GOOD. THE DOWNSIDE IS THAT ONLY ONE WORKER CAME OUT AND SO THE PROJECT TOOK A LOT LONGER TO COMPLETE, BUT WE DID KNOW WHO WOULD BE COMING EACH DAY. WE HAD TO RESTAIN OUR WHOLE HOUSE A FEW YEARS LATER BECASE THE OUTSIDE STAIN MADE THE HOUSE LOOK BAD WHEN IT STARTED TO FADE.  AND ALTHOUGH THEY WERE GOOD THEY WERE ALSO VERY PRICY AND THE HIGHEST BID WE GOT.   I WOULD DEFINITLY GO WITH THEM AGAIN BUT ONLY FOR WORK THAT ALLPHASE WOULD PERFORM ON THEIR OWN AND NOT SUBCONTRACTOR WORK. THEY DONT SEEM TO USE VERY GOOD SUBCONTRACTORS.  I WOULD DEFINITLY GET 2-3 OTHER BIDS AND THEN I WOULD CHECK ANGIES LIST FOR THE RATINGS ON EACH OF THEM BEFORE MY FINAL DECISION. FINAL WORD:  GOOD COMPANY, KNOWLEDGABLE STAFF, GOOD QUALITY WORK IF IT'S DONE BY THEIR OWN INTERNAL STAFF, PRICY BUT DEPENDABLE AND YOU KNOW LYLE WILL TAKE CARE OF ANY ISSUES YOU HAVE.

We were very, very pleased with the work done by All-Phase.  The job was completed in the time frame they gave us; the installers were professional, efficient, and friendly.  They cleaned up as they worked, and removed every bit of trash.  There were no hidden costs, no complications ... nothing but great work by them.  We signed another contract this week to have All-Phase replace more windows for us. I will use them for all of my remodeling projects - even though they weren't the cheapest company we contacted, they made the experience absolutely stress-free for us. Fabulous.

They are excellent. They have a supervisor on the job overseeing any subcontractors. They try to disrupt as little as possible the family?s day to day activities. The quality of the work is top-notch and they clean up every day before they leave. They were great to work with when we had to make some changes along the way; everything went smoothly.

The basement remodel was particularly amazing. They gave us an estimated time of three months and finished to the day when they promised. The kitchen took about the same time, with minor delays caused by the cabinet manufacturer. Lyle and Heather (President/Supervisor and Vice-President/Designer) are very professional, on top of things and easy to work with. They keep you posted on what is happening and any possible difficulties and delays. Work to be done is very clearly identified in their detailed contracts. Also, the workers they hire are uniformly very nice guys, eager to do a good job, and very experienced. All Phase is not the cheapest remodeler around, but they are the best. They won't install second rate materials but go for materials that will last the distance. (An example, Heather had specified a particular faucet but emailed to tell us she was changing the model because the originally specified faucet was the one sold by Home Depot and similar store with cheaper guts. The newly specified faucet looked exactly the same but should last far longer without repairs.)

It went great. The workmanship is excellent. They were very professional and went out of their way to be helpful. For example, I was unsure of whether or not to replace the shutters. They made a few calls to our local Home Depot, Lowes, and Menards and found Menards had the shutters I need on sale. The work was done extremely cleanly. They put heavy gauge plastic runners with adheasive backs on all our carpets where they needed to walk to get in and out and do their work. We got the Pella Designer windows on All Phase's advice because they have three glass panes and seal extremely well. After one winter with them in place, I can tell they were right. Our house was much more comfortable with no noticeable cool spots. All Phase may not be the cheapest contractor you can find but they did excellent work, answered all our questions and will be here if I need help in the future. This year we are planning to have them replace our entry doors. Give them a try.

It went quite well. They had to do one room at a time as I was living there during the work. They scheduled the various professionals with regard to my schedule and comfort. I have a number of pets and they were very careful not to let them out. Lyle checked the work frequently and if I found something that I thought was a problem, he made it right.
