We hired Tony Timmons because we were purposefully trying to support a local businessman. Tony lived in our subdivision. We knew his family. It turned into one, long, drawn out nightmare. He didn't start for months, made promises consistently that he would not keep, didn't show up for weeks at a time, always with a reason, of course. We started our daughter in the district of our new house because we were promised work would be done shortly after school began. We ended up driving our daughter to the new school district for the entire school year. They constantly asked for money and we quickly learned that the only way to motivate the job to progress was if they needed cash and we woudln't give them any unless certain jobs were completed. We finally fired them and hired a second contractor.
When they were finishing up the tasks we hasd already paid for but they had not completed, they smashed our sliding glass door. There were delays in this being fixed because Timmons had not pad his bill there!
Months later, we were threatened with a lean on our house because an electrician that worked under Timmons was still waiting to be paid.
In the last year, pieces of siding have already come loose; the bar in the master closet fell and we found the brackets were mounted with a couple of nails and glue. Pieces of molding have come off the upstairs laminate flooring, and others were never permanently attached at all.
The best part is our hardwood flooring. Because boards were not installed correctly, we have gaps all over our greatroom floor, One gap is in the kitchen and is just under two inches wide. We cover it with a rug!
The reputation of the Timmons Bros. has been erodinging in the Parchment community over recent years. Word travels fast. But, there is always someone else who has no idea what they are getting into when they hire these guys, I hope this reaches at least some of those people.

Roofing, General Remodeling + 1 more
I hired Timmons Brothers Builders, LLC back in late June of 2009. They were the second-lowest estimate for a roofing job. I figured I could minimize any problems by going with the second-lowest instead of the lowest estimate. Boy was I wrong. Originally I had them sign a contract stating that the project would be completed by mid July. They required a 50% down payment. I had researched down payments when it comes to roofing jobs, and this request did not seem unreasonable at the time. I paid them the down payment and waited for them to show up to do the roofing job... and waited... and waited... July came and went, still no sign of the project being started. I kept getting the, 'We'll be there next week' line. This continued until October, when they finally showed up after my complaints that the structure was incurring water damage. They stripped off *part* of the old roof in the offending area, put in a bit of rain shield underlayment, and then didn't show up again. The underlayment isn't rated to be exposed directly to the elements, and was exposed to several days of rain and weeks of sun. Eventually I was fed up and terminated their services and went with another contractor (Sir Home Improvements, a fine company). I requested my down payment back (my original contract stated that they were to return the entirety of the down payment if they did not finish the project in July, anyway). They said they'd get it back to me right away. I was given a check for the down payment amount, but then was told not to cash it as there wouldn't be enough money in their account. I was assured that the money would be there in a week, and that I could cash it then. A week passes and I get a call asking for more time... then again... Eventually I gave up on the check and saved it for potential evidence should I need to file a lawsuit. After continued calls, I was eventually given $1300 of the $3400 owed to me. This was in mid-winter. The rest of the money was not forthcoming, so I then filed a small claims lawsuit. This cost me a total of $71 in court and mailing fees. The eve of the court date (March 9th, 2010), they paid me the rest of the money owed to me (including covering the court fees). So, this whole ordeal was finally resolved nearly 9 months after the original hire date. I learned my lesson. Never, ever, EVER pay a contractor any money down. Pay only upon completion of the project.
