This family is a bunch of crooks! They are incompetent and have no business doing any work in peoples home. I have had nothing but problems with them since day one. I have an air conditioning unit they installed that wouldn’t cool my house below 76 degrees. When I confronted them about this they told me I need a bigger unit which I forked over another $600 for a 3 ton unit. They hooked this unit up outside and said they would come back in the spring to get it running. After calling them for a week with no answer I finally called from a different number and Mike answers right away only to tell me he has gone out of business which I believe is a lie. As others have stated his wife/secretary is one of the rudest people you’ll ever talk too. This is a warning to everyone reading this.....DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! YOU WILL GET SCREWED LIKE I DID AND SO MANY OTHERS! Their ratings everywhere you look are awful and the good ones I’m sure are made up by them and their friends. BUYER BEWARE!!!

Upon meeting Mike Schwartz and his family they seemed nice. I gave a deposit for the boat in order for my husband and I to try to get a boat contractor to do an inspection on the boat at their home. Could not find one to come out therefore wanted to have my deposit returned. We had a written contract regarding the deposit. It literally took months to receive it back. Mike's wife, Marla, made it impossible to try and arrange to meet me at her home to refund the money. She was rude on the phone saying that I was going to have to do this "Her Way" I asked if Mike could meet me at a job around Kalamazoo and she said no. I asked if they could mail me a check and the answer was "NO" because they run everything through their business and they didn't have any personal checks. The deposit was cash that we gave them for their boat. I'm sure as soon as this company complete's their work they expect to be paid. They do not play ball the same when supposed to return your money. I have been a Realtor for nearly 27 years in West Michigan and have not had this type of experience with a contractor. It's a shame this had to happen. From my initial meeting with Mike, I thought I would be able to recommend his company to others. But I would definitely not due to having to speak with their customer service.

Apparently I looked at the wrong sites when looking for reviews for Schwartz'. Terrible customer service, unsatisfactory work, and the problems aren't even fixed. Mike and his crew have been out to my house multiple times through our home warranty to fix a small section of leaking pool pipe. Getting coordination from both companies was a pain, but then he had had to come out over and over to refix issues that he kept putting off or didn't fix correctly the first time. If you have to call their office I hope you don't have to talk to his bitchy wife secretary. She told me they won't come out for free to look at a leaking pipe he tried to fix twice already, saying their trucks don't run on love, only gas. I asked why they would not stand behind their products and workmanship and she hung up on me after talking over me loudly. Mike and his crew were polite and friendly but that doesn't fix leaking pipes. I'll find someone else to fix the ongoing problems the correct way with better customer service.

they arrived within 3 hours of the call. On the job with two staff for nearly 90 minutes, didn't try to upsell, just fixed the issue, and suggested options for down the road in terms of new energy efficient technology. Unit hadn't been serviced since we moved in 9 years ago. Very thorough and reasonable. This company installed our new furnace several years ago and we have had no trouble. Family owned, local, recommended.

Response from SCHWARTZ HEATING & COOLING
"we pulled a permit , the city was hard to reach and so was the client to set up a time to come back and fix a few things the inspector wanted fixed , the owner does not have to install the furnace we have people that work for us that install them."

He went above and beyond the basic work, including leveling off the unit as well as repairing the breaker box. They cleaned up after themselves and were very polite. I will recommend his services to everyone.

He was punctual, prompt, knowledgeable and reasonably priced. He took the time to sit down and work out the best system for all of our needs including cost. He installed the furnace and everything is working perfectly.
With the estimated other work, he was fair in assessment and price. He even told us when something we wanted done could be done more efficiently, economically or just simply didn't need to be done at all.

My home came with a warranty through American Home Shield, which I am very grateful for since Labor Day weekend my air conditioning unit stopped working. I called American Home Shield the Tuesday after Labor Day, and they referred us to use Schwartz Heating and Cooling. The woman in their office called me that same day to tell me that they could hopefully get me on Thursday, since both of their vans were broken down, she couldn't say for sure. She told me that if I don't hear from her, they will be there as scheduled.
On Thursday, right on time, 2 young men showed up to look at my air conditioner. They looked at my air conditioner and told me that the compressor went on it, and that there were going to try to get the warranty company to get me a new unit. That sounded wonderful to me. Three business days later, the owner called me and told me that my Lenox air conditioner had a heat pump, and if i wanted to keep the heat pump that I would not get a new unit. They would probably just fix the compressor. He told me the decision was mine, but heat pumps were old technology and if I had furnace I didn't really need it. I later learned from a coworker that a heat pump is great to have just in case something happens with the furnace. He also told me that the heat pump in my AC helps my furnace be more efficient. I understand that this my fault since I did not try to educate myself before giving him an answer. At this point, it had been 90 here for a few days, and I was just desperate to have my AC back.
About a week later, the lady in the office (her name is Marta or Martha I think) left a message saying that my unit was in. I called back shortly after and she said they could do it the next day at 11. I said GREAT, but then the next day she called to set up the appointment. She thought that she was speaking to someone else the day before.
The installation is where the big problems. First off, as mentioned above my old AC unit was Lenox, which from what I understand is a premium brand of ACs. He brought me a Payne which the installer described as "builders grade". This was annoying. He said that the compressor was the same in this unit as it was in the Lenox, so it really wasn't a big deal...blah blah blah. The rest of the install went fine.
AFTER THE INSTALL IS WHERE THE BIG PROBLEMS OCCURRED. IF YOU WANT TO SKIP PASS MY ANNOYANCES START READING HERE.
After they left, I went up to my MBR and tried to turn on the lights....no power. I checked the breaker box, even tripped everything (just in case), and still no power. I called Schwartz's office, and whatever her name is answered. I told her that the power worked before they go there and now i didn't. She told me she had to check with Mike to see what could have happened, and she would get back to me, but there was no way she was sending anyone over that night since she would have to pay OT. I don't care if you have to pay OT, I want my POWER BACK! She called me back shortly after, said it was no way it was there fault. They only dealt with low voltage and my MBR power would high voltage. I told her that I would call an electrician and if he said it was their fault, I would send them his bill. Sounds fair, right? SHE HUNG UP ON ME! Listen, I understand that I can be demanding, but I most definitely wasn't yelling. I felt like my solution was fair, she didn't. She called me back shortly after and asked "You have American Home Shield, right?" I responded "Did you hang up on me?" She said, "Yeah, I wasn't going to sit there and listen to you yell at me." I responded by telling her I wasn't yelling at her. She said, "Shut up and listen to me." I was done with her. I hung up on her. I don't care if I was yelling at her, she works in a service based industry, she should know how to handle customers better. If I were to ever hang up on a customer, I would be fired.
Ultimately, it was there fault. My house is wired for a generator (but does not currently have one). When they were pulling in wires, they flipped a switch on the control box for the generator.
I could have looked over all of this if whatever her name is wouldn't have hung up on me and dealt with the situation like a professional. But she failed miserably. I would never ever call Schwartz again.

Furnace and A/C work. However, we were not satisfied with the following: Much of the work was not performed by the contractor, but by his teenage son, who sometimes was accompanied by another teenager, without the presence of the father/contractor for much of the work they did. I marked that "services were performed by the provider" (see above), but we were never informed that the person we contracted was going to be substituted by his teenage son at all. It was mostly the work performed by the teenager that was terribly bad. When installing the ventilation piping, they (i.e. the teenagers) destroyed the concrete of our chimney and the masonry in the facade. Instead of cutting a circular hole in the concrete and the stone walls, the result was a big hole much bigger than the diameter of the pipes that appeared to have been made with a sledge hammer. When asked to fix it, they did an even worse job of covering it with a metal sheet and some caulk. No insulation was applied in the big gaps left in the outside wall. We had to have those problem areas addressed after they left the house. Another sign of their sloppiness was the indelible fingerprint marks made with pipe sealant which were left all over the new duct work. I tried to clean/remove them with different products, but I was not able to. The fingerprints will be there as a testament of their untidiness. Schwartz's also removed my new and expensive thermostat and installed a generic, cheaper one and kept mine without asking me for permission. When I requested that my own thermostat be reinstalled, they (i.e. the teenagers) were puzzled. Moreover, when we discussed the different types of furnace filters, we were mislead into believing they were installing a permanent particulate filtration, when in fact they installed a removable pleated filter system. Even though the latter save us money, the difference between both systems of filtration should have been made amply clear. Finally, even though the agreement was that they include a furnace humidifier, they had to be talked into doing it. It still, to this day, does not appear to work properly, as moisture accumulates on the registers even when the filter is turned off. After all these issues, we simply cannot recommend this business to anyone.

It is a father son team and they are both extremely knowledgeable. I would never go anywhere else for heating and air conditioning problems. I got their name from a electrician. They are really good and I will never go anywhere else. It is a family owned business. They always come out the same day if I need them and even if it isn't a no heat call.

They are prompt, courteous and explain everything well. There is no doubt that I will call again for routine cleaning or maintenance. It gives peace of mind that there are people out there that you can trust and are also there when you need help.

Very respectful and talked in terms that I could understand.
They really know their trade very well and I especially like the fact that it is a family business. The owner's son is just as knowledgeable and very capable. These people are super nice and I would not use any other company for my heating and air conditioning repair needs.

We called Schwartz on a Saturday evening in the middle of the winter when our furnace stopped working. Mike came out right away. He quickly identified problem and provided us a temporary fix. The furnace was tripping off (high delimiter) due to the fact that it was too big for the house. He cut some extra venting in the basement to help temporarily correct the problem. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and only charged us $90 for the service call.
A year later we had them replace our furnace with a 2-stage 95% efficient Rheem for $3000. Mike again provided knowledgable and exceptional customer service. They completed the installation quickly. After installed Mike came over to inspect the installation and provided a thorough walk though of the furnace and it's features. He also made sure it was "dialed in"
just right. Years later and the furnace is performing flawlessly. Our only concern in the process was that had a media filter placed on the furnace and had a hard time finding replacement filters. I called their office a couple times without any luck before I finally found them on Amazon.
Mike provided sound, reasonable knowledgeable service/advice. He was honest and his focus was on helping us fix our issues and not on selling us something we didn't need. I would recommend anyone to call Mike for service or a quote that will beat most any competitor.
We just recently got a quote from Mike that was 20% less then others.

We bought a house warranty when we bought the house, and when we had a
problem with the a/c unit, Schwartz were the second contractors the
warranty company sent out (after the first contractors failed to
diagnose the problem). They took the time to find the real problem, and
the people that came to the house were very nice and answered any
questions. However, their customer service at the office was lacking. We
had some problems getting the warranty company to pay for the services
needed (even though it was in the contract). Schwartz refused to do
anything at all to help. I was told several times, "The warranty company
is our customer, not you." I did get the warranty company to pay for the
needed repairs, but I chose to have another company do them.

We called him after hours and he showed up very quickly. He repaired the problem and only charged us day rates because we had only been in the house for three days. Two weeks later we had another problem with the furnace and he came out after hours again. He showed up, figured out what the problem was, found a way to remedy it, and he didn't charge us anything. He simply asked us to recommend him to other people in the area. I would highly recommend them for any heating and cooling issue that you have.
