PARCHMENT CHIMNEY

Absolutely horrible. The nicest crooks you’ll ever meet. Came out and provided an estimate, we put down a deposit and they started work the next day. After working all day they then tell us they cannot fix our problem but that we still have to pay for labor and materials because they cannot return them since the they have been opened. What!!?

A little difficult getting scheduled, but this is peak season and it is a small business. 2 workers came, they did the work cleanly and efficiently and gave me several helpful suggestions. They also pointed out that my chase top has advanced rusting and needs repair. They were on time, polite, wore shoe covers and carefully covered the carpet and hearth area. They provided a detailed written summary of the work and inspection.

All went well. Professionals looked to reduce costs by examining existing chimney cap to try to remedy problems with that cap without replacing. That attempt, unfortunately, was not a plausible solution, therefore a new cap was installed. Service was exceptional...both focused and expedient. Definitely quality service with Parchment Chimney.

Inspector was on time and came on a Sunday. Was efficient and answered all of my questions and gave recommendations for future improvements and things to look for in the masonry as time goes on.

*** UPDATED 3/6/2015 -- Today I finally received my original deposit back from Mr. Hansen.  I believe he was finally motivated to return my deposit after the Better Business Bureau contacted him and ultimately lowered the ranking of Parchment Chimney based on his lack of response.  Since he has finally returned my money, I've changed my overall rating from 'F' to 'C'... but I'm also going to leave my original complaint here for others to read so that they can be forewarned about what they might have to go through. 

I had a Saturday appointment which was nice, I didn't have to miss work during the week to get home for their visit. I just moved into this house 6 months ago and just wanted to make sure the fireplace and chimney were ok before I start any fires. I was given the inspection and cleaning quote over the phone. Upon arrival , one quick glance up the chimney determined cleaning wasn't needed, so that was good. but the guy was in my house for only about 10 mins for the total inspection and I think $75 for a quick look is kind of pricey. but he was nice and professional and knowledgable.

First time with this company. Two men inspected and cleaned chimney. Provided recommendations. Cost in line with previous years. Will use again.

Chimney and fireplace needed repairs required by relocation company. Called Mark and he reviewed the report, inspected the firebox - giving me tips on how to repair the parts I could do myself, and came back the next day to inspect the flue / perform the repairs. This was all on very short notice. Was very friendly, helpful and did a great job and a reasonable price.
Since he was already making a trip to Grand Rapids, he was able to swing by my workplace to provide the invoice / receipt.
Absolute pleasure to work with, highly recommended.

They came out, were very prompt, professional and courteous. Also they assessed a repair, and gave us a quote which we felt was very fair.

Two gentlemen from Parchment Chimney arrived at my house on time and ready to work. They were very pleasant, professional, as well as informative in regard to getting the best performance from my fireplace insert. In addition, they pointed out some serious problems with my chimney. I may have to have the chimney rebuilt and if I do, I'll seriously consider hiring them.

Very friendly and courteous; efficient and careful. Left no mess whatsoever. Offered to remove shoes as they came in.

They arrived on time and completed their work in a timely manner. Very professional and polite, with good information and a fair price.

they draped the area around the stove which was in my finished basement. It was wet outside, the cleaners kept their shoes on and walked up and down my stairs with their wet boots on

Overall it was beyond my expectations. We all have had our contractor experiences. So, when I say Mark and Parchment were outstanding, I am not over-exaggerating.
If you have a chimney issue, do not delay, call Mark at Parchment. Mark is the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
PS, another chimney guy, Tom at Michigana in Sturgis was very helpful on the phone. He did not come out due to travel, but he was willing to discuss my chimney issues with me on the phone for almost 30 minutes and helped me understand that I needed to call for a second quote and Tom was right. After I called Mark at Parchment and Mark came out and quoted half of Redbud Chimney, and then actually performed the quote way beyond my expectations, I was very pleased with Mark and his guys for an outstanding job and Tom for taking a lot of time on the phone with me, to discuss every aspect of the job.
Who has the time to discuss the job on the phone these days? Tom did. So, thank you Tom at Michiana in Sturgis, Mi too.

The cap and bricks below were cracked and in need of repair. I called for an estimate and they were at my house on a Sunday to give me an estimate. The estimate was not the cheapest but not the most either and they really seemed to know what they were talking about, much more so than anyone else. They poured a large crown on top of the chimney, replaced the broken bricks with the extra they took out. The job took a little longer than originally estimated but the price remained the same. The crew was very nice and considerate of keeping their work mess and work station clean and contained. They were very skilled at what they did and now my chimney looks brand new.

It was a perfect inspection. VERY professional!!

I called Parchment Chimney because of recommendations on Angie's list. My call was answered promptly and an appointment was set up for the following week. They arrived on time, cleaned the chimney and fireplace insert in a timely fashion and were
very careful to leave everything soot free. (unlike chimney sweeps we've had in the past) I was also advised of cracks in the
chimney wash and given an estimate for the work which can be done in the spring. They were very professional and I plan on calling them in the spring. I would recommend them to anyone needing a chimney sweep.

When I originally called Parchment Chimney, I was incredibly impressed with their customer service. I believe I spoke directly with the serviceman, and I was given an appointment the very next day at 4pm. Two men arrived in a truck 15 minutes early (which was actually preferable, and I had told them on the phone that I would be home from work by 3:30, so it was not an inconvenience). Only one of the men came inside initially to do the inspection, and I believe the other guy was there to help clean. Mark was incredibly respectful, cheerful, and informative. He told me that my chimney was clean, but he also pointed out areas of concern (not compromising to safety). He then checked the second fireplace and was equally thorough and informative. The appointment was over before the time originally scheduled. I was not given a write-up of the services at the time, which was initially concerning to me, but when I called them shortly after, Mark was the one who took my call and assured me he would provide documentation in a few days. As it was a Friday, I did not expect to hear from him until mid-week, but Mark delivered the paperwork IN-PERSON on Sunday afternoon. It was thorough, easy to decipher, and accurate to all of the things we had discussed.
Overall I was totally blown away by the quality of service that Parchment Chimney provided. I was treated respectfully, complimented on my home, and provided with everything I needed to be sure of my fireplace/chimney safety. I will definitely be consulting them in the future for any of my chimney needs.

The Parchment Chimney folks were pleasant and professional from the start. They set up a time that was convenient to me and showed up right on time that day. The inspection went well and I was actually told that the chimney wasn't extremely dirty and could probably wait to be cleaned. We hadn't had it cleaned in many years so I asked him to go ahead and do it as long as they were there. They were very careful with controling the mess, laying out floor covering and being careful of what they touched. They working quickly and professionally. I was happy with the service and thrilled when they said that the cost was actually less than what they had quoted me. By the way, they also do free inspections every two years. Nice! They are my chimney people now!!

Were very nice and respectful of our property, Used tarps to protect carpet and explained everything he was going to do before he did it and why. They were very efficient and thouough. They spotted problem with top of chimney and showed me with digital pictures the exact detail. They will come back and repai chimney in spring. Highly recommend this company.
