EXTREME POWER EQUIPMENT INC

My parents took in a deck from an old Toro lawn mower.  My parents are in their late 80's and early 90's.  My parents preceded to explain what they wanted and my mother said, " just fix it right".   I understand that when someone says "fix it" that could have several meanings.  This is where a written estimate would have helped.  I asked the owner of this company why a written estimate was not given in advance,  his reply:   "if they don't ask, we don't give one".    When the work was completed the company called and told them the bill,  it was over $700.00.  My parents were extremely upset and they could not believe it cost that much.
When I came to visit, I went to the company with them to pick up the mower deck.  I asked for the written estimate, and asked their common procedure.  If a customer does not ask for an estimate, they do not offer one. I then asked for a itemized list of everything that was done. Their business license was not visible so I asked for it,  I was told by the owner, he did not have to provide that either.
The work performed was satisfactory  and I want to make that clear that my complaint does not reflect the work performance..This is a warning to the elderly that may need this companies' service in the future.   MAKE SURE YOU ASK FOR A WRITTEN ESTIMATE.
In reality, the price of the work was reasonable with explanation, but that is in my opinion. My parents thinking is very different. And for this reason, I  strongly feel the owner of this company took advantage of my parents and did not explain the possible cost of the repair to include the hourly wage. This is what a written estimate is for and it is usually common practice with reputable businesses.
Will they return to this company?  NO,  due to the unprofessionalism of the owner.
