Chris was excellent in all ways. He comes out and answers any questions you have. He measures accurately and gives you a line by line quote that you can use to purchase the correct amount of flooring from any source you want. If you ask, he'll offer advice, but doesn't push a particular brand on you. His price per square foot ($3/sq ft) was less than any we found - less than Lumber Liquidators. Lowes, Home Depot, and others. His installation skills are impeccable, he is punctual, and he cleans up after himself. What more could a homeowner ask?

Great! Our hardwood floors had not been refinished in 17 years. Part of the floor was engineered wood and very thin and part was solid oak. The sanding needed to be very prudent on the engineered side of the floor. In addition, the sanding erased a stained pattern from the surface of the flooring and we wanted that pattern restained into the floor. We are very happy with the finished results. The process took 4 days.

We have original oak flooring in almost all rooms except kitchen and dining area of the ranch house we were getting ready to move into in Portage, MI. To complicate matters we needed to co-ordinate this from NJ. We found Chris via excellent online reviews and met with him when we were in MI and arranged to have the floors sanded and refinished plus new oak floors in the kitchen and dining room. Chris did a fantastic job - the original floors looked great and he matched and blended the new flooring in beautifully. Chris did all the whole job himself and obviously takes great pride in his work. He was punctual, trustworthy and knowledgable. I would highly recommend him!

We found Chris on Angie's List and he is the professional we were looking for. We were a bit nervous about placing hardwood due to several transitions and a hallway with odd angles and transitions. Chris came right over, answered our questions and gave us a very reasonable quote. He started and ended the job exactly on the dates we agreed upon. Chris made custom transitions that were impressive. He made cuts to fit our curved fireplace hearth so precisely, that it didn't even need trim moulding. Chris communicated when necessary, showed up when he said he would, and cleaned up any dust. He is professional, trustworthy, amazing at his craft and is a genuinely nice person. On a scale of 1-5 I'd give him a 10! I have already recommended him to several friends.

My American cherry floors had an area of water damage and two other areas that showed fade marks where rugs had been for several years. I had to get these repaired to get my house ready to sell. My realtor had recommended Chris to me. I called twice to get an estimate and he did not respond after several days. In the meantime I obtained two other estimates and then Chris finally called me to apologize because he had been out of the country on his honeymoon. I guess that's acceptable :).
Chris came right away to give me an estimate and because I am single, I asked if he would move the big furniture too (including an upright piano!). Chris's estimate was the lowest (by a significant amount) and he agreed to move the furniture at no additional cost; this was huge to me. He also applies 4 coats of finish vs. the 3 coats the other providers had told me they do.
On the scheduled day, Chris arrived with a friend to help with the furniture. I gave him a spare garage door opener, left for work and because I would be leaving the next morning to go out of the country on business, I actually never saw him again but came home to beautiful floors and all my furniture was back in place. This work also happened to coincide with the huge snow storm the area got but Chris apparently had no trouble completing the work as planned.
I am so glad Chris called me before I hired someone else; I would hire him again and highly recommend him.

After getting several quotes for refinishing our wood floors, we decided to go with Chris.  He was very easy to work with, polite, and professional.  We were on a tight schedule to get our floors refinished from a light oak color to a dark brown before we moved into the house.  Chris was able to start work the day after we closed on the property even though that meant working on a weekend!  Chris completed the job on schedule before our furniture was delivered.

Unfortunately, we didn't see the floors until the day before the movers arrived.  Overall the floors looked FANTASTIC, but there were a few small areas that needed to be touched up with stain (Inside of the air vents, corners, few areas on the stairs, etc.)  Also, we had asked for an extra-durable topcoat because we have 2 cats and didn't want their nails to scratch the floor, however after just a few days the cats were scratching the finish on the floor.  Plus, our movers also damaged the floor in a couple areas.  I contacted Chris and he immediately came out to correct the stain issues and repair the areas the movers damaged.  He also buffed out the cat scratches in the original top-coat and applied a stronger top-coat to the entire floor and stairs which was a bit of an inconvenience because we had to move all our furniture off of the entire first floor of the house but in the end it was definitely worth it.   We haven't had any issues with scratching since.  The floor and stairs look wonderful, smooth finish and very even color.

I would definitely recommend Chris and will look to use C.N.B Hardwood Floors again in the future!

Had no idea we had such an awesome floor hidden under the carpet. We pulled it up, nice hardwood floor but it needed work. Chris came out quickly after we called to give us an estimate.  He was here as promised to do the work. Doesn't mess around, gets the job done. He did an awesome job on the floor - removing old glue and everything else used to keep the carpet down. Sanded and found a beautiful natural hardwood floor.  No mess, and an excellent result. I would definitely hire him again - and will because we know we have another floor that needs work as we continue to update our home. Highly recommended!

The owner responded to my request for a quote the very next day with a fare price especially considering he needed to not only repair floor boards, but construct costom made transitions. Time wasn't a factor for me so we scheduled 3 weeks out. He was on the job precisely each day. Even though a few small projects were added after the initial bid, the price remained the same. I flip homes on the side and CNB will be my only call for my next floor refinish.

They were always late each time they came out. On one occasion Chris didn't bother to show up at all. No communication about this until days later when he finally left a message telling us that "something had come up." They came out on three different occasions due to mistakes on their part. We didn't get return calls. I would leave messages and he wouldn't return them, sometimes for days. They completed the job the first time and it wasn't what we had agreed upon so they had to come back and re-do it. It was the most unprofessional business I have dealt with as far as not returning calls and not reporting on time. The finished product was terrible, but after two rounds with them I didn't want to deal with them further. They didn't vacuum well enough and left dog hair and debris in the finish. It was overall an extremely poor job and terrible communication. I wish everything had gone better, but I'm left with floors that look as though an amateur attempted to refinish them. DISAPPOINTED!

*UPDATE 10/24/14
Received a call from Angie's List reporting that Chris had said he had never done business with us. I am furious that a business would attempt this as I asume they are trying to get my review removed. I have multiple emails, including an invoice from Chris. If he doesn't recall doing busness with us then I would LOVE to get my money back.

CNB completed everything on time, on budget, and provided daily updates.  Total job took 3 days and we were able to walk on our floors each evening.  Not much dust or mess from the process.

They did an outstanding job on floor, they made sure the stain and treatment was even, and took maximum care to make sure the dust from the sanding was limited.

It was excellent. Chris was terrific. We were moving out of town and he was even kind enough to come early to receive the shipment of wood.  He was very thorough, knew what he was doing, and cleanup was excellent.  He gave us many suggestions, and gave us everything we wanted. The price was good as well.

Chris returned our calls promptly and he also quickly responded to come and give us a quote. He was patient while we waited for others to also provide quotes. In the end we went with him. He provided a written quote up front and to begin the work required 1/2 deposit which was completely fair.
Chris spent about a week at our new home. Each day he arrived between 8- 9 a.m. and he brought a helper with him--which we liked.  Both of them worked hard and left our home neat each day. We gave Chris a key to come an go as needed.
The floors turned out beautifully. He added hardwood in the dining room and literally you cannot tell where the old floor and new floor meet. He joined them together perfectly. We would definitely call on Chris again and he did a great job.

The new kitchen floor is beautiful!  Chris and Dustin were polite, professional and pleasant. They cleaned the area worked on before leaving each day.    The initial estimate was scheduled soon after our phone contact and the floor installation was scheduled and completed in a timely manner. We recommend CNB and will use them again.

It all began well, but ended badly.  They were doing a good job, although working fairly short days.  They estimated it would be a 2 day job, but it ended up being a 4 day job.  They took off Wednesday afternoon for "jury duty".
On Thursday they said they were finished, but had run out of quarter round - their mistake.  They said they could come back and put it in when we had ordered and received more quarter round.  But Chris said it was a little far for them to come (45 minutes), and we could perhaps put it in.  We agreed that we could finish it up.
As we looked at the work, we realized that they had become sloppy during the last day of work: quarter round was not angled off in places, just chopped off; gap between floor and wall, 2 pieces of flooring put in backwards.
We tried to calling Chris, starting immediately , to get these things fixed up.  He did not return our phone calls ( 4 made over the course of 2 weeks).

Chris gave me his estimate and then arrived on time at the agreed upon date.  He removed and disposed of the old carpeting.  I had purchased the wood flooring from a distributor  and he did the installation.  He work quickly and in a professional manner.  He did a great job of clean up after the job was finished.  I would highly recommend him to do a wood floor install.

Chris responded very quickly and came and gave an estimate of the job while still at our home.  He explained exactly what he was going to do and how long it would take.  We scheduled the work and Chris showed up exactly as promised.

He completed the job and our floors look fabulous!  The dust was minimal and the floors look better now than they did when the house was first built!  Chris did an outstanding job, was very professional and the price was excellent.  I would highly recommend Chris without any reservation.

I found Chris on Angies list and called him for a quote to remove the  ceramic tile that had been in the house for 20 years and replace it with 3/4 inch solid hickory flooring. Chris arrived on time the very next day and walked through every aspect of the job with me. One of my primary concerns was the ability to match the current Hickory flooring that was already installed in the dinning room / formal living room, both of which butted up against the existing tile flooring. I really wanted the transitions between the current hickory flooring and the new hickory flooring to look seamless. Chris said " not an issue" as he has perfected a "toothing" technique that allows him to give a seamless look -  given we can find the same hickory flooring. Chris also laid out a clear time line for the start date, the time to complete each aspect of the job (ceramic tile removal - 4 days, floor prep - 1 day, floor install  - 4 days, and base trim / finish 1 day), as well as the final completion date. Then next step was to find the Hickory flooring which we did at a discount flooring dealer in GA. Chris had no issue with me purchasing the floor directly from the dealer, and also helped me to estimate how much flooring was needed. The flooring was direct shipped to my residence, and even with shipping cost, was less than most of the hickory flooring that I looked at locally.
Chris called me the day prior to the date the job was going to start to confirm we were still ready to proceed, and to coordinate plans to provide access to the house. Chris showed up on time, on the initial date he had given me when he quoted the job and got after it. Chris is very efficient at everything he does, and the tile demolition was complete after day 3 (already ahead of his time line), Flooring started going in on day 4. Chris started with the transition between the formal dining room (current hickory flooring), and the kitchen (new hickory flooring). Chris was able to cut back into every other board of the old hickory flooring, replace it with the new hickory flooring, then continue on into the kitchen. The effect was a complete seamless flow of flooring from old to new (no transition molding, ect). I was blown away. Needless to say the rest of installation was conducted with the same level of excellence. The flooring install was basically complete on day 8, at which time, Chris brought in his finishing man "Pete", to install / paint the foot molding that was added to the current 3 inch floor molding in the house. The molding install was excellent, and Pete went over and above by not only  painting the foot molding, but also repainting the 3 inch base molding to ensure both molding matched thoughout the entire job area.  The end result was impressive. We completed the final walk through 1 day ahead of Chris's original completion date, and I was completely satisfied with the entire project. I did not have a single issue with anything - just blown away.
It should be noted that I have extremely high expectation, and do 99% of my own home improvement work. I have even installed my own hardwood flooring in the past, but due to time constraints at work, and the size of the project, I felt like I needed to contract out this project. A few overall comments about CNB hardwood flooring:
1. Chris is professional, friendly, and courteous (fairly yong guy also to have obtained these skiils).
2. He stood behind his quote, never changing the price, and actually did some "flooring customization" (very cool stuff) for no charge.
3. Started the job on time, cleaned up each day (even during the demoliiton which was a significant amount of work), and completed the job 1 day ahead of schedule.
4. Chris's expectations for his own work were greater than mine (and my expectations are extremely high).
5. He also did some very cool work on "cutting in" the flush mount hickory floor vents that look custom.
6. His quote was more then fair, and I feel that Chris definately  "worked" for every dollar he made on this job.
7. Chris made me feel like I was a valued customer, and he was more interested in exceeding my expectatons than jst meeting them.
Lastly, I typically do not fill out evaluations on line, again partly because I do most of my own work. Based on the excellent work Chris did on customizing my current house, I felt obligated to make these comment.
Chris is the MAN, thank you for the awsome work, and I will never personally lay hard wook floor again, as I now know the "hardwood floor master".
Thanks,
Rob
