Chris came right away to give me an estimate and because I am single, I asked if he would move the big furniture too (including an upright piano!). Chris's estimate was the lowest (by a significant amount) and he agreed to move the furniture at no additional cost; this was huge to me. He also applies 4 coats of finish vs. the 3 coats the other providers had told me they do.
On the scheduled day, Chris arrived with a friend to help with the furniture. I gave him a spare garage door opener, left for work and because I would be leaving the next morning to go out of the country on business, I actually never saw him again but came home to beautiful floors and all my furniture was back in place. This work also happened to coincide with the huge snow storm the area got but Chris apparently had no trouble completing the work as planned.
I am so glad Chris called me before I hired someone else; I would hire him again and highly recommend him.
After getting several quotes for refinishing our wood floors, we decided to go with Chris. He was very easy to work with, polite, and professional. We were on a tight schedule to get our floors refinished from a light oak color to a dark brown before we moved into the house. Chris was able to start work the day after we closed on the property even though that meant working on a weekend! Chris completed the job on schedule before our furniture was delivered.
Unfortunately, we didn't see the floors until the day before the movers arrived. Overall the floors looked FANTASTIC, but there were a few small areas that needed to be touched up with stain (Inside of the air vents, corners, few areas on the stairs, etc.) Also, we had asked for an extra-durable topcoat because we have 2 cats and didn't want their nails to scratch the floor, however after just a few days the cats were scratching the finish on the floor. Plus, our movers also damaged the floor in a couple areas. I contacted Chris and he immediately came out to correct the stain issues and repair the areas the movers damaged. He also buffed out the cat scratches in the original top-coat and applied a stronger top-coat to the entire floor and stairs which was a bit of an inconvenience because we had to move all our furniture off of the entire first floor of the house but in the end it was definitely worth it. We haven't had any issues with scratching since. The floor and stairs look wonderful, smooth finish and very even color.
I would definitely recommend Chris and will look to use C.N.B Hardwood Floors again in the future!
*UPDATE 10/24/14
Received a call from Angie's List reporting that Chris had said he had never done business with us. I am furious that a business would attempt this as I asume they are trying to get my review removed. I have multiple emails, including an invoice from Chris. If he doesn't recall doing busness with us then I would LOVE to get my money back.
Chris spent about a week at our new home. Each day he arrived between 8- 9 a.m. and he brought a helper with him--which we liked. Both of them worked hard and left our home neat each day. We gave Chris a key to come an go as needed.
The floors turned out beautifully. He added hardwood in the dining room and literally you cannot tell where the old floor and new floor meet. He joined them together perfectly. We would definitely call on Chris again and he did a great job.
On Thursday they said they were finished, but had run out of quarter round - their mistake. They said they could come back and put it in when we had ordered and received more quarter round. But Chris said it was a little far for them to come (45 minutes), and we could perhaps put it in. We agreed that we could finish it up.
As we looked at the work, we realized that they had become sloppy during the last day of work: quarter round was not angled off in places, just chopped off; gap between floor and wall, 2 pieces of flooring put in backwards.
We tried to calling Chris, starting immediately , to get these things fixed up. He did not return our phone calls ( 4 made over the course of 2 weeks).
Chris responded very quickly and came and gave an estimate of the job while still at our home. He explained exactly what he was going to do and how long it would take. We scheduled the work and Chris showed up exactly as promised.
He completed the job and our floors look fabulous! The dust was minimal and the floors look better now than they did when the house was first built! Chris did an outstanding job, was very professional and the price was excellent. I would highly recommend Chris without any reservation.Chris called me the day prior to the date the job was going to start to confirm we were still ready to proceed, and to coordinate plans to provide access to the house. Chris showed up on time, on the initial date he had given me when he quoted the job and got after it. Chris is very efficient at everything he does, and the tile demolition was complete after day 3 (already ahead of his time line), Flooring started going in on day 4. Chris started with the transition between the formal dining room (current hickory flooring), and the kitchen (new hickory flooring). Chris was able to cut back into every other board of the old hickory flooring, replace it with the new hickory flooring, then continue on into the kitchen. The effect was a complete seamless flow of flooring from old to new (no transition molding, ect). I was blown away. Needless to say the rest of installation was conducted with the same level of excellence. The flooring install was basically complete on day 8, at which time, Chris brought in his finishing man "Pete", to install / paint the foot molding that was added to the current 3 inch floor molding in the house. The molding install was excellent, and Pete went over and above by not only painting the foot molding, but also repainting the 3 inch base molding to ensure both molding matched thoughout the entire job area. The end result was impressive. We completed the final walk through 1 day ahead of Chris's original completion date, and I was completely satisfied with the entire project. I did not have a single issue with anything - just blown away.
It should be noted that I have extremely high expectation, and do 99% of my own home improvement work. I have even installed my own hardwood flooring in the past, but due to time constraints at work, and the size of the project, I felt like I needed to contract out this project. A few overall comments about CNB hardwood flooring:
1. Chris is professional, friendly, and courteous (fairly yong guy also to have obtained these skiils).
2. He stood behind his quote, never changing the price, and actually did some "flooring customization" (very cool stuff) for no charge.
3. Started the job on time, cleaned up each day (even during the demoliiton which was a significant amount of work), and completed the job 1 day ahead of schedule.
4. Chris's expectations for his own work were greater than mine (and my expectations are extremely high).
5. He also did some very cool work on "cutting in" the flush mount hickory floor vents that look custom.
6. His quote was more then fair, and I feel that Chris definately "worked" for every dollar he made on this job.
7. Chris made me feel like I was a valued customer, and he was more interested in exceeding my expectatons than jst meeting them.
Lastly, I typically do not fill out evaluations on line, again partly because I do most of my own work. Based on the excellent work Chris did on customizing my current house, I felt obligated to make these comment.
Chris is the MAN, thank you for the awsome work, and I will never personally lay hard wook floor again, as I now know the "hardwood floor master".
Thanks,
Rob
