This was my first time boarding a pet.
Drop off went smoothly except the guy didn't offer a receipt or anything showing he was boarding my dog, and it seemed like a hassle when I asked for it.
When I arrived to pick up my dog this morning, she seemed okay, however, later today it became apparent that she has some digestive distress. She also has lost a couple pounds.
My dog requires a grain-free, beef-free diet, so I provided her food portioned out into baggies and marked by mealtime. Out of eight meals I sent, she was only given three, so she missed FIVE meals. I was so happy to see my dog I didn't count her food baggies until we got home so I never asked whether she didn't have an appetite, if she was fed the wrong food, or if she was somehow neglected. She'll be okay, and rather than deal with the guy on the phone I'll just take her somewhere else in the future.
I can definitely say that I requested three play times per day (the maximum) and she only received three playtimes during her entire stay, so we're pretty unhappy about that. They didn't charge me for the missed playtimes so at least that was ok.

"Hello, this is Jeff Vander Meer owner of Camp Ravenwood Kennels. After looking over security video footage and talking with the staff, I have found that your pet Addie had her food and water available at all times during her stay at our facility. She did eat her treats provided and nibbled on her food. Her behavior was not that unusual for a first time boarder. This type of behavior is quite common, in both dogs and cats during the first few times boarding. Some pets, after a few stays at the same boarding facility, will usually become more comfortable with their surroundings and do better with time. Since Addie does require a special diet, we did not use our usual practice of giving a pet that is not eating well a spoonful of canned food to help entice eating. Since Addie will always require her special diet wherever she may board, I would suggest that you bring a prepared (or canned) food from home, that is compatible with her special diet so the staff at the facility can use it to help entice her appetite. Regarding a receipt for proof of your pet being left in our care, this is the first time that we have had this request since I acquired the kennel in 1989. So the look of “hassle” you mentioned was more of a look of confusion on the part of my employee, as he was not sure just what it was you were asking for. The issue of playtimes was just a matter of miscommunication on my employee’s part. He asked if you would like any playtimes during Addie’s stay at the facility. Your answer was yes three please. He should have elaborated on that subject and asked you if you wanted three per day or three during the stay. One per day is the norm for most of our clients and this should have been clarified at that time. I am including some links from the internet that will explain some potential problems known to be very common during the first boarding experiences of pets. Might I add that in the future, if you have concerns regarding your pets stay at a boarding facility you first call the boarding facility and speak with the owner or the staff to inquire as to what transpired while your pet was being boarded? Voice your concerns to them instead of posting your comments on the web to see if there WERE any issues. Without contacting us, you presumed something that is totally incorrect. I won't use them again. The cages are very small and they don't wash the dog before they give them back like most places. When I picked her up, the dog in the cage above her just urinated on her pillow so I had a pillow that was covered with another dog's urine. They offered to take it and for me to pick it up the next day but I told them no thank you. I have more of a problem with the facilities than the people. The people were nice and professional. They did the best they could with what they were working with. The facilities were substandard to what I had before so I was a little disappointed but I had already made the reservation sight unseen so I had no choice but to leave my dog there for a week. I was disappointed when I saw the size of the cages and my dog didn't suffer any ill will and she was taken care of.

We picked up Nick Sunday evening and I was very satisfied! He was happy and even brushed! They assured me he did very well. I expected him to come back smelling of a kennel but he was just as clean as when I dropped him off. His blanket was returned washed and dried because, of course, he's still a puppy and urinated on it overnight. I even called and checked up on Nick while we were gone both Friday and Saturday and each time, the staff was eager to answer my inquiry about him. I will most definitely use them again when we need someone to care for him! Great job Jeff and staff! http://www.campravenwood.com/
