We lived at their house in Brooklyn for 2 years from April 2010 until July of 2012 and took immaculate care of it. I even had a cleaning company come in once a week to clean. We also had professional lawn services & professional exterminators because the house is by the river and the spiders and ants were overwhelming . Whenever we had a problem we would call them and it would take them sometimes weeks to get someone out to fix the issue. When my basement flooded it took them 3 weeks to respond. If i had not cleaned everything myself, mopped and sterilized the basement would have been a total loss. It was very frusterating. When we bought a house in June we went through all of the proper steps to notify them and give them the keys. We left 4 things there - an old dresser, a lawn bag of lilys, an old lawn chair and a box of salsa. Inside, there were no damages. I left a hand rail down on the stairway that I had to take down to get a mattress down and I felt it would be better for them to put it up because it was tricky - and I was willing to let that be part of the security deposit charge. The rest of the house was VERY clean and in no way did we leave it trashed or in disrepair. I expected them to take some of our security deposit for minor wear and tear but I thought because we had taken such good care of it that it couldn't be that much. When we moved out not only did they take our entire $1150 security deposit but they tried to charge us $1600+ more! We received a 5 page itemized list with no prices on it except for a total cost. If they had fixed all of the stuff that was wrong with the house BEFORE we moved in then I might believe that they would use my security deposit for at least some of these things but when we moved in they barely cleaned the place. I had to ask them repeatedly to come back and clean out the spider webs and clean the carpets. They did clean the spider webs out but never did clean the carpets. Now they are trying to charge us for things that were wrong with it before I moved in, including items left there by the last tenant that they never removed from when we moved in. It's sad when places like this take advantage of good renters. Its even sadder still that some of the actual owners don't know how their property is being treated by this company. Renters beware - you will not get your money back even if you didn't damage a thing.. This rental company are out to get your Security Deposit. They are completely scammers.
