Don Burke is a personable man. He came out and gave us a good price because he said he was in the neighborhood and since his equipment was on our street, he could it in 3 or 4 days. I will say that it rained a lot and I understand that you cannot put down a new asphalt driveway when it is wet. However, it took 6-7 weeks for a new driveway to be done. We kept calling him in that period of time and he kept saying he will be out, no problem, it will done tomorrow. Unfortunately, that was not the case. We finally started using our garage because we did not want to park on the street for 6-7 weeks. He finally came out and did it. There was a part of the driveway that was not finished properly and my husband called him and we got the same story, I will be out tomorrow. There has not been any rain and he has not come out. In looking at the driveway, it has grooves and stones are showing through the top of the asphalt. For digging up the entire driveway (we have a circular and straight drive), it looks like the driveway was just seal coated; it does not look like he dug everything up and
PS-After this company talked to us they said they would come out and fix the problems. They also reimbursed us for the work on the sprinklers that they broke.Over the next two days, I saw crumbling asphalt and some big puddles forming. It took no fewer than 10 calls over 3 weeks to get Burke back out to look at it. He said the crumbling was due to them paving over mulch, the puddles due to insufficient crowning. He promised to come back that week to fix it. That was back in July. It is now November, the crumbling is worse and the puddles have now become ice patches. In between, I have called him at least 30 times; when he took the call, he would promise to come out that week.
It turns out that my neighbor's driveway also has problems and has experienced the same lack of response.
Now the negative: The added asphalt caused a wooden gate next to the garage to be completely blocked which the owner Don Burke was aware of. We discussed how to solve the problem (cutting the bottom of the wood panel to clear the asphalt) and I paid him in full on the promise that he will finish the job the next day. He never did. Despite repeated phone calls and phony promises, he never showed up again now that he got his check. I ended up doing the job myself.
If you hire this contractor, do not pay him in full until you are completely satisfied and the work completetly done. Otherwise, you may have to finish it yourself.
