Hired Seasonal Property Maintenance to help with my tree cleanup after the derecho (wind storm) that came through Cedar Rapids, IA (around 40 trees affected across a couple acres). They were good to work with through the quoting process and working with my insurance to get as much covered as possible. They had a couple teams that worked on it and started out great and doing good work. After the first main day with the crane, they lost a couple people for personal reasons and decided they wanted to head home for a few days of rest before heading to do work after hurricanes. Unfortunately for me, that meant they wanted to cut corners and do as little as possible and not setup the crane in new places. They didn't take down a couple of trees they promised to, I pointed out other trees that needed to be trimmed or taken down and had hangers. They took down one and promised to contact another group from Michigan to finish up the job or to come back and do the work themselves. They never came back. As they had been so good to work with, I unwisely paid them knowing they were heading home, thinking the other group would come. No one ever came. After several attempts to contact them, I finally got a call back. I requested a credit equal to the lowest of 3 quotes I've gotten from other tree companies to finish up the work ($3,500 - $5,500) for a full day of work to do the rest). They refused to provide any compensation back saying based on what they quoted and the work they did, they couldn't afford to give anything back and were sorry they left me in the lurch. So they didn't honor their promises, they didn't finish the work, which I'm sure they would have done well and they wouldn't provide compensation because they apparently quoted it at a price that didn't allow them to do all the work profitably. Very disappointed. Seemed like nice guys, but now I'm out several more thousand dollars because they cut corners and rushed to get out before I really had a chance to see what was/wasn't done.
