"Yes I would have to agree that this job was a communication struggle over the 5 different weeks we were on it. Unfortunately communication was difficult because the reviewer was always out of the country or traveling for business each of the weeks we were there. This is a home that had extensive damage from smokers and every square inch of the home had to be oil primed for stain blocking during the months of December-February with no ventilation possible. About 3,500 sq ft (trim, walls, ceilings..)and prior to our painting they had all new wood flooring and carpet installed rather than waiting until after the painting. When we left this job there was no paint on any of the new flooring. The final outcome was great in my opinion. A true learning experience.."
Before I contacted him, I painted the ceilings myself and originally started to do some of the trim myself, but was unhappy with the results. Jay took the time to sand down the areas I had tried to do myself and refinished them to perfection. He also noticed that the ceilings I did were showing some roller marks and took care of them.
An example of his attention to detail was when he noticed some areas I had scuffed up in the bathroom while preparing to tile the bathtub and he touched them up. He caught all the small "issues" like that which I knew about, but most people wouldn't even notice.
The end result was a very professionally done paint job that looks great.
Went well.
1) Little supervision
2) Quality was excellent
3) Performed duties above the agreed upon scope of work. He did more then he had to.
4) Good communication.
- 5) I would recommend him for future work.
"Thanks for the review... I noticed you gave me a B on pricing and that was probably due to the tough popcorn ceiling we were dealing with and amount of dirt/cobwebs.. As you said in your review we did more work than what i quoted I hope you feel it was a good value overall for the amount of work we did.. thanks for review"
"."
floor painted(complex vaulted ceilings and high walls, some trim and cabinets)
by JJ Express Painting and I wanted to take time to comment on what a pleasant
and professional experience we had. My
husband has been relocated several times around the country and it seems that
every place we purchase needs to have extensive remodeling done( I know, I
should learn from previous experience..).
I have utilized contractor referral services in the past for just about
everything imaginable( countertops, flooring, painting, carpentry..) and I have
had mixed experiences even with good reviews.
I noticed the great reviews for JJ Express Painting and made the
decision to go with them for some rather complex painting that was severely
needed in our home. We have huge walls
with high ceilings and a huge foyer with lots of angles going on over really
nice flooring and woodwork and really needed a professional for the job. This included wallpaper removal in several
areas as well(something we have had some bad luck with in the past doing it
ourselves and with contractors). I can't
describe what a positive experience we had with Jay and his workers
enough! They showed up on time each day
prepared with everything needed for each phase of the job and were efficient
and neat with everything that they did from start to finish. Jay and 1-2 of his guys were able to get more
done in less time than crews of 4 or more guys we've had in the past. They are pleasant to talk with and were always willing to answer questions that
we had. We also had some kitchen
cabinets in outdated oak that they were able to strip and disassemble and then
stained in black at his shop with just the exact distressed look we were aiming for with some of brown
coming through and then clear coated and put back together without any dings or
scratches. I must say we were more
impressed with their work than any job we have ever had done in the past and I
highly recommend them for any kind of painting that might be needed. I should also mention that we believe their
quote for the job was more than fair and we have learned from past experiences
that some of the lower quotes ended up
costing us more when was all said and done and the dust was cleared..
The previous owners of our home decided to do it themselves with paint overruns all over the woodwork, and there were some challenging borders/edges, as well as plasterwork, patching and sanding. Furthermore, the previous owners painted LATEX over OIL-based paint-- without sanding and priming! That is the kiss of death for a paint job, because the paint comes right off, because it does not adhere. Also, we had terrible experiences with terrible painters in the past, and Jay was very respectful and sensitive of our both our anxiety and high standards. Thus, because of the complexity of the job, he bid the job as time and materials, preferring Sherwin Williams, for supplies, although he did not steer us to them. We used Kylie, the interior designer from Sherwin Williams, to help us nail down the colors, and, her services are free, with a $75.00 gift card purchase from Sherwin Williams--which we used to buy our 1-quart-size paint samples, to try on the walls.
The Friday prior to the job start, Jay returned with one of his crew, Ryan, to review the plan, and to take a deposit for the job. We forgot to draw up a contract; we used a handshake instead. He and a two-man crew arrived on Monday at 0830 am, and his crew worked hard, non-stop until 430 pm each day, for five days. Very efficient. Very clean. Very careful. Very meticulous. Frog tape, plastic drapes, tarps/drop cloths. Jay checked in every morning and afternoon, and he also worked on the most complex trim work, which required meticulous caulking/painting.
Jay is absolutely amazing at planning and coordinating a very complex job, which involved challenging plaster work, patching, and sanding, as well as complex trim work, particularly where the previous paint job was a total disaster. As the crew encountered issues, they were very direct and asked us how we wanted things--like getting rid of an obsolete phone jack, ceiling hook, and window treatments. If something didn't seem right, or if they thought something else should be done, they always asked us first to make sure, rather than just do it. This occurred on perhaps a dozen things, which we very much appreciated.
Overall, we were extremely pleased with the quality of the work. Jay even called a few days later to ask us if we had any issues, since sometimes you don't see things missed/flaws for a few days, and he offered to come back to fix anything we might find--that speaks to his integrity, customer service, and humility. He has a first-rate crew, and he is very picky about quality. He is excellent at estimating the amount of time a job will take and how much paint/supplies will be needed.
I have a lot of painting experience, and it would have taken me several weeks to do what their crew completed in just one week, and I would have never come close to the quality and precision of their finished product. The colors and the quality of the paint job in our home are absolutely stunning, and we are so much happier because of it, thanks to JJ's Express Painting. They have completely transformed our home!
We enthusiastically recommend JJ's Express Painting, and we intend to use them for all of our future painting needs, as well as for our exterior work in the summer!
