The gentleman who was on night duty returned my voice message within 30 minutes and was at my door within 30 minutes of that (early evening hours, not the middle of the night). He confirmed the diagnosis of a faulty gas valve, replaced the part, educated me about components of my older furnace, checked other portions of the furnace (the heat exchangers) prior to valve replacement so that I wasn't wasting my money, then completed the job. He patiently and politely answered the questions that I had during the job. I wasn't "supervising" him, I was curious about various aspects of the job and he endured my questions and gave very patient and thorough answers during the process.

This company was retained to do routine servicing and repairs to systems. They rarely appeared to do the yearly service, and when asked to repair systems they installed, they repeatedly got it wrong. When they told me the dehumidifier wasn't designed to work in the winter, that was the end of it. Another heating company was hired to repair the dehumidifier and found that some wires were disconnected and that was why it wasn't working.

I had a "no heat" situation at 0800 on 1/6/14. I called RC mechanical, and their serviceman responded promptly. Due to the extreme cold, I had decreased air inflow and a malfunctioning natural gas regulator. He corrected the airflow problem and restarted the furnace after SemcoEnergy replaced the gas regulator. 1.5 hours of service time and supplies cost $130.95. I also received education about what caused the problem, and this information was put to use again on 1/27/14 when the gas regulator malfunctioned. Because of the education, I was saved the cost of another service call.

I was applying for a rebate due by 12/31/12 from Efficiency United for yearly service on my forced air natural gas furnace. RC mechanical had the equipment to do the combustion analysis that was required for the rebate as well as the ordinary service. The appointment was made promptly when I called. The technician did the service and filled out his portion of the rebate form. He was quite quiet and preferred to work without interruption from the home owner. The lady in the office was very helpful and emailed me a copy of my paid form to enable online filing for the rebate. The price for the furnace service alone was comparable to other companies. There was an extra charge for the combustion analysis, but this was explained beforehand. I was satisfied with the work done.

The work was done ok but the real problem I had was with the billing. The guy was there for 45 minutes and they charged me for 1.5 hours or more. After I called them they let me know why they thought that it was correct and they would not adjust the bill.
