Burke's Roofing Repairs

The crew arrived on time and worked all day to get the job finished, but changed to color on the drip edge without asking (went from white to brown, looks horrible now), left an open bundle of shingles on the roof (which came crashing down in a subsequent storm) and did not seal around the vent pipe gaskets properly.  Worst part of all is that after collecting the check for almost $10,000, they STILL have not given us a receipt for the work (3 months later), so we have no proof of purchase and labor for warranty.  I have e-mailed and called multiple times, but the won't even return my calls.  Slick sales and sky-high promises- don't get suckered in like I did.  Avoid them at all costs.  I thought I was doing the right thing by supporting a small business, so this is a tough lesson.  I would love to update this review if they ever decide to actually make things right (which would take them all of about 10 minutes) but I fear they have taken my money a moved on.

Paul Scowley is really good to work with- if you want to have a quote for a house you want to keep or a quote to sell a house- he tailors the quote for what you want. Recommended upgrades only when it made sense- did not oversell. Very happy- professional. I was able to look at other houses to pick the color of the shingles. Good clean up and quality job- I recommend them.

Tim was very easy to work with. He showed up promptly for every meeting and came to inspect immediately after the job was done. He was helpful in meeting with my insurance appraiser too. The crew did a good job overall but they weren't quite as careful with plantings around the site as I would have liked, and the job foreman only checked in with me once to show me some damage, even though I asked for a report on some other areas of concern during the job. Overall, however, I would give them strong marks for execution as they were clean, prompt, and did a good job for a fair price.

The actual roof shingle replacement went well, they carried out the job on time, were professional, and cleaned up afterwards. The trouble we had came later. The replaced shingles in the front of the house started buckling, and despite several emails and a phone call, there was no response. We had given up, and then we found their ork crew at work on a neighbor's house. The person in charge of the work crew was very nice and came by when we asked to fix the problem. The real dissatisfaction we had was the lack of any response to repeated requests to address the buckled shingles. And the solution was rather simple - the foreman took out the covers of the gutters which were preventing the front shingles from adhering to the roof.

Roofers came on time and finished within time frame they'd suggested. They were quiet, so much so that I thought they'd left at one point.

we had three estimates- they had the best price. the team that was sent to our home worked like clockwork. they each had there job and worked together in fine manner. the roof was done in one day and the cleanup was very impressive. we are very happy with their work and professionalism. we have recommended them to many of our friends.

Tim is very likable and courteous and had the best priced bid of the three roofers we contacted (some of that may also be because he uses Tamko shingles while the other two used GAF; frankly we much prefer the look of Tamko over cookie cutter GAF). Tim also made an extra trip out to our house to help pick out the right color shingles for our house.
On the scheduled day of work, all went pretty well. We had a small hiccup with some of our landscaping not being protected from debris, but it was resolved in the end. The work crew was incredibly efficient and hard working -- and it paid off. Lots of compliments from the neighbors. The crew also did an amazing job with the clean up. Given the size of our tear off, it was quite a mess, but by the time they left for the day (12 hours from start to finish), you'd never know the house had been re-roofed that day. We would HIGHLY recommend Tim's business to others.

When you get a roof quote there is a charge for replacement OSB sheeting. I was amazed that Burke's charge was only $40/sheet- including the labor cost. I opted to do a lot of this after being shown the spongey nature of the old sheets and the presence of black mold. It's obviously the time to do this replacement when replacing the roof since the costs are so reasonable. I replaced 40 sheets. The next time around this shouldn't be so extensive because of the improved ventilation. These ventilation standards have changed appreciably in the past 30 years (my house is 35 years old.). Take a look at the roofs of new houses and you'll notice the heavy use of ventilation units. Don't put off a new roof. If it's over 25 years old it's time and you'll likely improve your inside air quality because of lowered humidity and mold count. Last March there was a tornado here in Dexter and I was more than a bit shocked to read that homeowners with roofs that were judged to and quot;be wantingand quot; by the insurance companies recieved pro-rated coverage on their loss. Homeowners whose roofs had not been repaired on a reasonable schedule were awared claims much below their coverage.
So the economy of squeezing out another year or so from your old roof is false. Especially since getting a new one is such an efficient process with companies like Burke.

Efficiently and in an amazingly short perior of time. They sent enough men to do the job and they did it and cleaned up after themselves...They came at 7 a.m. and left at 1 pm .

They arrived promptly, did the work per contract, cleaned up nicely and were courteous. I had received the recommendation from a friend and they appeared to be the most reliable from the 3 companies we sought estimates from.

Burke's Roofing Service did a very good job. They were clean.They made sure they cleaned up both days. They used a magnet to make sure they picked up all the nails and then the whole crew walked around the house to make sure they picked all materials up before they left. It really impressed me how hard they worked.

This review is way overdue,but no less sincere. My overall experience with Burke's was wonderful. Tim was friendly and punctual from the very first time I met him. He was knowledgeable about his products and did not try to sell me on services that were unnecessary --when I asked him to assess my attic insulation, he said it was in great condition. Tim helped me pick a color for my new roof that was very complimentary to my house. His crew was also courteous and punctual. Their prep work , installation and clean-up on my job was exceptional. Burke's stands by their work and told me if I ever have any problems with the work they did, they will come out and fix it , free of charge. I would highly recommend them.

Excellant job. During the appointment for the estimate Tim took time explaining attic ventilation andinsulation and how it effects the roof. He was thorough in explaining about the product he uses and how it is put on. He took plenty of time helping me choose a color for the shingles and trim.The job was done in one day. Clean up was very good. The crew did a good job protecting the plants around the house.

Very well. Appears to have done everything as written on proposal. Came in at appointed time and finished job in 4 hours.

A really great experience overall from a professional who takes a great deal of pride in his work. I needed to replace an older roof. Tim gave us a reasonable price, a specific date when the work would be done and completed, and personally took charge to make sure that the project was done on time.

THIS COMPANY DID AN EXCELLENT JOB. THEY WERE ON TIME AND GOT THE WORK DONE QUICKLY. EVERY DAY THEY CAME OUT AND GOT RIGHT TO WORK. THEY WERE THE ONES WHO TOLD US TO HAVE OUR CHIMNEY LOOKED AT.
