We have used West Michigan Tree for many years and have no complaints with pricing or work performed. Not always notified of day of service but that has not been an issue. Trees were removed efficiently and cleaned area well as did the stump grinders.

After 5 weeks of waiting patiently, I called and asked when I could expect service. The lady on the phone put me on hold for a minute or two and came back saying they could be out yet that day! Guess I should have called sooner. The service tech showed up at the time he said he would and quickly performed the treatments. Talking with him afterwards about my apparent missed order he explained that some jobs they do have to be performed in certain kinds of weather. Other jobs like my trees can be performed in any kind of weather and sometimes get bumped out for the other jobs. Still, it seems like 5 weeks should have been long enough to fit my job in the schedule. I feel like it was forgotten. As for how well it works, only time will tell. So far after a few weeks from service I can't see any improvement but I'm sure with a tree it will take time. Assuming I do see improvement, I will use these people again. The price was reasonable.

I got home the next day and the big white birch tree WAS GONE! They billed me $800 for that and didn't even remove the wood or grind the stump!!! The sickly looking plum tree in the back - they left me a note that they treated it and injected the soil around its roots with chemical to fight whatever disease and to make the soil healthier. I DIDN'T WANT IT SAVED! They sent no free diagnoses/treatment/removal price quotes beforehand or ask me if I approved! They just did whatever it took to charge the most money! A little plumb tree probably would have cost less than $100 to remove. And nothing to address the health of the big giant Birch tree! And they keep sending me annual spring notices that it's time to get my trees examined to give them more treatments! I keep ripping them up. My brother came with a friend to remove the birch wood they left behind and he & his friend looked at the stump and both agreed / said there was NO SIGN OF ANY DISEASE OR ROT!

They have arborists. They have a real person answering the phone, not a machine. They usually get back to you fairly quickly. Last year, when they trimmed, they admitted that they hadn't trimmed enough off the bottom so they came back and did it for nothing. They did spray twice for crab apple fungus. Their prices are a little high but it's worth it because they are dependable. I'm waiting for them to call me back right now.

No apology and hilariously they bill us for their mistake.  We had to replace the tree at a cost of $400.

West Michigan Tree Services leaves a lot to be desired in both the quality of their services and their level of professionalism.  I recently bought a new home and within two weeks of moving in I had massive tree limbs falling in my back yard for no apparent reason, i.e., no weather related issues.  Concerned, I called a few different places to have the trees evaluated and obtained quotes from two.  One company was going to charge me $1,100 to remove two of the trees.  But, Nick, the arborist at West Michigan Tree Services assured me that all the trees were healthy and for $1,400 they would  remove "large dead and broken tree limbs."  Wanting to keep the trees, I agreed and they eventually had someone named Steve call me to schedule a date for service.
My first complaint is this: during the call to schedule service, I specifically asked if they were going to need go on my neighbor's property and I was assured no, they would not have to do so.  But, the first thing they asked when they got here was whether I had permission from my neighbor to go into his yard.  Not a good start.
Second complaint, Nick the arborist--the man who originally came to my house, evaluated my trees, and quoted me over $1400 based on his appraisal of the work that needed to be done--was not at my house the day the work was performed.  I have no idea who they sent and I have no idea if they were even arborists.  What is the point having Nick evaluate my trees and give me a quote if Nick is not going to be on site to ensure that the work I'm paying for is performed properly?
On the day the work was to be performed, after the men arrived, I made the mistake of going to work and entrusting my trees to men I thought knew what needed to be done to the trees.  They did not.--hence, it would have made sense for Nick to be there.  In short, when I returned home at the end of the day, I could not tell that anything had been accomplished.  My trees looked EXACTLY the same as they had that morning, including jagged branches and massive over-weighted limbs.  Now, given that I was paying $1,400 and expecting the removal of "LARGE dead and broken tree limbs," I expected to see a difference, I did not.
I called to complain, and to their credit, they sent Nick the arborist back out my house to double check the work that had been done.  He agreed it had not been done properly and that more work was needed.  When I ended my phone call with Nick, he told me that Steve would be calling me to schedule a time for them to come back out to the house and finish the job properly.
[Side note: their office is the most inefficiently run place I have ever encountered.  They have people who answer the phone but who can provide absolutely no assistance in anything.  All they can do is say, "we'll have Nick call you," or "we'll have Steve call you."  They seem to know nothing about the business or even basic scheduling matters.  As far as I can tell, they add to the overhead without providing any useful function.]
In any event, Steve never called me.  Silence for more than 3 weeks.  Just when I was starting to think they'd forgotten about me, I came home one day to find a bill in my mailbox.  Annoyed, I called to find out why I was being billed for work that had not been completed.  Of course, the person in the office knew nothing.
Shortly after getting off the phone, I went outside to do some raking and what should I find?  Without notifying me that they planned to be on my property, West Michigan Tree Services had returned without my knowledge and done more work on my trees.  On a practical level, I can't believe they came to my house and did work without providing me the opportunity to be present.  They did the work wrong the first time and I had every intention of being here the second time to ensure it was done to my satisfaction.  As it is, the trees certainly look better then they did the first time, but I am again left studying the tree after the fact, wondering if more limbs should have come down and I'm unable to discuss these things with the arborist for whose services I paid more that $1,400.  At this point, I still don't even know if Nick deigned to attend the work the second time around.
After I realized more work had been done on my trees, I called back to get an explanation.  The person in the office--sympathetic but unhelpful--said she'd have Nick call me.  He called me and left a message two days ago.  I returned his call within the hour but he was unavailable and I still haven't heard back from him.  Overall, mediocre work, horrendous communication skills, and a total lack of professionalism.  I would not use them again.

I contacted this company in late May to have a tree removed
from my property so that I could build a garage on my property. My builder is
ready to start and the tree is still standing. I received a proposal dated May
28 to have the work done and I called Nick Clement and told him that I wanted
the work completed. Subsequently I received a call from Steve who told me the
earliest they could do the work was September 4th. Sometime in August I called
Steve and told him that I would like another tree within 25 feet of the tree in
question taken down and he said that would be fine and that it would be a
little less expensive because they would already be on site. September 4th
dawned with a major electrical storm so they didn't show which I could
understand. I waited for a call to tell me when they would reschedule which
never came so I called and was put into Steve's voice mail. He finally called
me 2 days latter and left me a voice mail saying they could come on Tuesday
afternoon the 10th, Wednesday, or Thursday. I returned the call to voice mail
and agreed on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday. The crew showed up as promised
but with no advanced notice that they were in fact coming. I engaged the crew
chief about how long the work would take and when it would be finished since
the weather for Wednesday did not look promising. I also pointed out the second
tree as part of the job. He said it was not on the work order and that they
would/could not do the second tree. The conversation degenerated to the point
that I asked to speak to Steve or Larry (the business owner?) at which point he
turned to the rest of the crew and told them to pack up, they were leaving
which they did in fact do leaving me with a 2 hour clean up job and a mess. My
wife and I picked up 6-5 gallon pails of walnuts before we could start cleaning
up the debris. I called the company talked to the receptionist and was
ultimately told that Nick was on his way to my house. Nick showed up and we
talked. He told me that it would probably be better if this crew did not finish
the work and that he would reschedule the next day (today). I have not heard
from him and, at this point I don't care if I ever do. My complaint looks very
similar to the one posted on the BBB website down to the $1980.00 price tag
and the disrespectful crew chief who apparently doesn't understand who makes
his paycheck possible. I am 72 years old and I have never dealt with a company
with poorer communication skills or poorer customer relations skills. I have received an email from Nick informing me that West Michigan Tree does not want my business and that they will not be returning to finish the work they started. I am left to find another company to perform the work.

They did an excellent job. They were very professional and the price was right. They didn’t take enough off the first time and so they came back a second time to take some more off. They redid everything without any problems.

They were really good. He came out and gave me a price that was really good. He said it would be a couple weeks because they would be busy. Sure enough, they came about two weeks later, right at 8:30 like they said and they did a great job. I would definitely use them again.

They charged me about $930 for their services since I had a lot of work. They put in about four hours worth of work. They did a good job, but not a great job. I then got a call back and they said that they would be delighted to call me if I had any questions, concerns or complaints. The guy came out and I showed him where they could have trimmed out a few other things that I had asked them to. However, they had some reservations about doing anything other than what was strictly written on the order. The guy should have taken care of that. He said that their customer service is the key and they would take care of any issues we have if we are unhappy. So, they are coming back in a day or two since they have another 10 minutes of work. It’s just some touch up stuff that they have to do. I thought that the guy was very cooperative and I have no complaints. They had a machine up in the front yard, which was the chipper. They took all the branches that we cut down and they had quite a pile. They put the chipper in the back of their truck. They cleaned up and did a good job. They came back and promised to take care of anything, which was perfect. I priced a few other people and it was right about the same all the way through. So, their price was fair and comparative. The quality of their work was good since they cleaned up. They had to climb the trees, but they didn’t cause any damage or any problems. They were very respectful of the property. They did the work on Friday and the guy called me back on Monday to see how things went. They also did a good job with their punctuality and professionalism. They came when they said and they took about as long as they expected they would. I would use their services in the future too and there are no reservations about it. I didn’t know the guy from anybody when I first started.

They were terrible. They charged probably $800 between the couple of times they came out. They claimed that they knew about the dune risks. They told us that we didn?t need a permit when we really needed a permit. They came out, didn?t do the work and they tried to charge us for the work that they didn?t do. They didn?t necessarily chop down the trees that they were supposed to be chopping down. They chopped down the ones they thought have to be chopped down instead of the marked trees. They were supposed to haul certain twigs and you can?t leave the leafy part there, but they said that they always leave the leafy part there. My husband and I got the permit because we live in a dune area. We told them that we wanted it done according to the permit. Then they gave us the estimate and they didn?t do it according to the permit. We tried to call them back and they told us that it would cost us extra if we did use the extra services. We didn?t think we had to pay because we wanted the estimate to be as per the permit. However, we were willing to pay because there was more work, but they didn?t do all the work they were supposed to do. It was really frustrating and we had them come out multiple times. We didn?t choose them because they were low priced, but we chose them because we thought that they knew about the dunes. They did a bad job instead of doing a decent job. They came out when we could finally get them out to do the work. They lied about their tree service and they claimed that they were dune specialists. So, I don?t think that was very professional. Ultimately it is resolved and we have moved on from there, but I would definitely not use their services again.

They use arborists and they can recognize the different trees and the growth patterns. One of the problems I have with them is that the person who comes and makes the assessment of what needs to be done is very knowledgeable and then sometimes the people who actually do the work are not doing exactly what I thought they were going to do. Sometimes it takes them awhile to get back to me. When they say they are going to be here they are here.

I AM VERY GLAD TO SAY THE SERVICE WAS GREAT. THEY CLEANED UP VERY WELL AFTER THEMSELVES. THEY ARE ALSO LESS EXPENSIVE THAN SOME OF THE OTHER COMPANIES.
