The J Salon

I have been looking for a stylist that can work with my hair since I moved to Grand Rapids two years ago. Although I have found some good salons, Trisha at The J Salon seemed to know exactly what I wanted. She was professional, courteous, friendly, and she listened to what I wanted.

This is a beautiful salon that makes you feel really relaxed when you're in the chair -- sometimes they even offer a quick hand/arm massage!  I used to go to stylist named Kate S., who did a great job with blonde highlights that were always nicely blended and never brassy.  She also did an incredible scalp massage when shampooing, but after going to her for about a year and a half, she unfortunately left the salon. I tried another girl but was not as impressed with her skill level and thought, for the cost, I should be happier with the end result.  I've been to two other salons since then and still cannot find someone as good as Kate S.  The only somewhat negative about this salon is that the lighting is dim -- which I think helps you feel relaxed and comfortable -- but it makes it hard to see your hair color until you go out into the daylight.

It is a smaller salon but Jackie, the owner, has a selection of some really, really talented people. She has a few women, in particular, that are wonderful cutting edge hairstylists. She has a facialist who is just top notch. The level and quality of service is very high and the cost is modest. That is part of her motto, affordable luxury. It is really great service.
