Merry Maids of Grand Rapids

I used this company for 8 years. They never changed the price, which I thought was expensive, but I really needed help. The first two years they did pretty well, sometimes very well. They always returned my calls and I liked dealing with the owner/manager, Jim. By year 3 I had to remind and request that things be done over and the two women I saw regularly--every two weeks--- had left. I never left the house but stayed out of their way. The baths were done well, kitchen inconsistent and mopped floors never got in the corners. I had to speak about the dusting also. At times there were two women, at times three. All the young women were nice, honest and friendly. I have a large house and at the beginning they cleaned for two and a half hours. Towards the end it ended up one hour. I wish I had cancelled much earlier. I got a letter in October 2013 that the business was closed.

The 2 women arrived on time with their cleaning supplies. They introduced themselves and I proceeded to tell one of the women what I wanted done. The kitchen done THROUGHLY inside and out of cupboards, refrig, range, microwave. I also pointed out 2 full baths and one half bath. I was told I didn't have to stay and thought the ladies were professional enough to not hover over. I was told it would take 2-3 hours, so I came back in 4 hours and the ladies were gone, so I looked around. I was not pleased from the beginning. The outside of the kitchen cupboards were still "tacky". The shelves had a white chalky coating. The cupboard under the sink was not cleaned out and garbage pieces from the previous owner were still there. I had to basically redo everything over. The refrigerator was cleaned OK, but one of the drawers was not cleaned. The cupboards, drawers and the shelving in the bathrooms had the same chalky film and I had to redo them. One of the toilets appeared not to have been cleaned. I was very displeased with the job they did.

My experience with them was not very good. I was supposed to get a twenty dollar discount being a first-time user. After I called the owner and complained about the quality of the work and them not giving me the discount he said he would send it right over to me. I have never heard back from them. I will not use them again in the future.

I have been using them weekly for a while. I had them come in last January because I had a back surgery. They were coming once a week until I recovered, and once I got back where I could do some of my household work, they started coming twice a week. They are wonderful. They do a good job. They vacuum the baseboards. They go around every room and ceilings. They dust all the carpets. They polish everything. They clean the bathrooms and mop there. They mop the kitchen. They clean everything in the kitchen. They are really good. The price is fair.

They cleaned my home several times, each time they did an average job. They never left the house what I would call spotless,but did a decent job. I asked for them to change the sheets,and left them out where they could be seen, and they didn't change once and the rest of the time didn't tuck them. They also didn't vacuum the furniture,which I requested. Overall, they did a good job.

They did a good job, but I felt like I had to constantly watch them to make sure the work was done right.

They were all right. They were on time. They did what they were contracted to do and they were expensive. It was so expensive that I got another company.

The owner came out and gave me an estimate last week. I paid $138 yesterday for their initial cleaning but their normal weekly fee for my cleaning would be $88. They did an extra thorough cleaning during their initial cleaning. They made sure that they cleaned the cobwebs in every room and made sure that every base board is cleaned. They also vacuumed along the edges of the carpeting. They did all the extra cleaning that they would not do on a weekly basis that they would do once a week. Once they did the initial cleaning it would be easier for them to keep up on a weekly basis. I was very happy with them. I could not believe the job and they were working with two people who had a team leader. One of them did the wet work and the other did the dry work which was the way that they divided the work. They were here for an hour and a half but the house looked terrific after they left. I was very pleased. They were quick and did a good job. It was a very thorough job. I have been finding places in the house that I did not know that they have cleaned. It was great. I am not sure on what the ongoing price is for house cleaning but I was happy to pay them for what they did as it was absolutely worth it. They took their dirty mop water with them when they left which was very nice. They are a national organization with a franchise in Grand Rapids. The owner ensured that the people that worked for him were screened, did police checks and drug testing. They were not allowed to smoke in the house. They were also bonded and insured. So, I did not have to worry about them especially when they were icing the driveway or worry about them stealing anything. I also did not have to worry about them taking drugs or bringing drugs out to the house. These things were very nice. The owner volunteered that information for me and I did not have to ask him about that. I thought that it was a selling point. You would need that confidence to let in strangers in to the house. I would be having a surgery and would be out of commission for six weeks so I would need them for these six weeks. I would not be able to do house work for six weeks. It would drive me crazy if I have to do the house work and that was why I would call them. If I had relatives that lived close by then I would not need anyone but my family has been in California.

Very well. If there was a problem with something done or undone, it was promptly taken care of. I have a large house and 4 bathrooms. Sometimes the dusting is not done to my satisfaction. Contact with the office is good.

I WAS NOT VERY SATISFIED WITH THE QUALITY OF CLEANING SHOWN BY THIS COMPANY. THE WORK WAS RUSHED AND NOT WORTH THE PRICE I PAID. I WOULD TELL PEOPLE TO STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY.
