Genius Phone Repair

My Iphone5 screen was freaking out and doing weird stuff like making random calls. Estimate to fix was $120 to $150, final cost $112. Could not be more pleased with this place. Only took an hour also, which was huge for me because I am from out of town. Don did a fantastic job!

I dropped my phone on the concrete garage floor and the screen shattered and the phone was completely unusable (I couldn't get it to respond at all to the screen touch). I knew it had to be repaired, it was just a matter of having a professional service do it or try to do it myself. I opted to have a professional do it because it would be quicker and I've never tried this type of repair before. There aren't many of these phone repair places that I found in Grand Rapids. I did stop into Verizon and asked them what my options would be and they suggested I go to Genius (it seems like they refer all of their repair work to Genius). I used Genius and the repair went well. As another reviewer has stated, it's never cheap or fun to have to repair the screen on one's phone. Genius charged $160 which I thought wasn't unreasonable (when I searched online for the replacement part, it would have been about $80 for the part alone). Luckily they had one unit of the replacement screen in stock for my phone and told me it would take about 3 hours total. When I returned 3 hours later the phone was ready. I tested it (phone/text/web) and everything seemed to work fine. They offer a 90-day warranty on the replacement part only; that's the only thing that made me nervous as the repair could not be successful and the shop could say that the reason isn't due to the replacement part but due to something else (I've read some other cases of that happening to people). Fortunately this was not a problem for me. I've had the phone back now more than 30 days after the repair and it has consistently worked fine.
As part of this repair service I opted to purchase a tempered glass shield for the screen (Mobile Defenders model which they sell in store). This was a bit expensive and you could likely due much better getting it somewhere else or online. Their normal price is $30 for the tempered glass screen protector and they took $10 off as part of the repair, so I paid $20. Again, that was probably overpriced but at that point I didn't want to deal with having to order and wait for a screen protector, I needed one anyway, and of course I had just dropped and broken my phone and didn't want that to happen again so I just went with theirs.
Overall, I am satisfied with their phone repair service and price and would use them again if I ever find myself in that situation (which I sure hope I do not). The phone has worked normally for over a month after the repair.

These guys are great! I called in advance to be sure they would be able to repair my phone before they closed for the evening. They said it would not be a problem. When I got there the service guy showed me a work around to my problem. Didn't even charge me. I was there a couple of months ago for a new battery for my phone. Same great service. Reasonable price for battery and installation.
