This is the second time I've visited Community Automotive Repair. I am a college student with a hectic schedule, and both times I have needed someone to check out what was wrong with my car, they have been very prompt in every aspect- answering my calls, repairing my vehicle, and even sending a follow-up email. Before coming in, I had called to see if they thought the noise my car was making was serious or not- without having to schedule an appointment, they took a peak/did some minor work and returned it to me within thirty minutes. Previously, I had to replace some parts for my power steering fluid and air conditioning. They helped me find the fluid leak, refilled the power steering fluid, checked my oil, and sent me safely on my way so that I could make the drive out to Chicago for the weekend. Small disclaimer here that I am not very car savvy, but they do a good job at explaining to me what might be wrong, what to look for to confirm whether or not I need to come back, and the options that I can pursue from there- and seem to do so from an unbiased standpoint. I'd recommend this company to anyone. Thanks for the help!

Received original diagnosis from a dealership who said if they ordered the module along with the other parts, but ultimately did not need to replace the module, I had to pay for it anyway and keep it. Otherwise, they could just order the motor and cover and see if that fixed the problem (which was doubtful).
I asked Community if they had the same policy and Dave said no. They would order all three parts, but if the module didn't need replacement, they wouldn't charge me for it. Because the module was damaged, it was replaced. Very happy with Community's professionalism and fairness. Have used this repair service before and have been happy.

"We'd like to extend our thanks to you, [member name removed], for commenting about your recent experience with our shop. It definitely is no interest of ours to have you incur expenses for parts/service that we don't either replace or administer completely. We're grateful this policy met your complete satisfaction."

"We apologize that our promotion was not made clear to you, [Member's name removed]. When the offer was published we made certain to include a proper disclaimer to communicate additional fees for upgrades. Synthetic oil is, as you know, more costly than house blend. As such, we cannot discount the service and take a loss on our inventory as well. Nevertheless, this should all have been explained to you when the appointment was made, so we take responsibility for this oversight."

The estimates for future work seemed very high. They took longer than they said and were more expensive than they said.
Response from Community Automotive Repair
"Your work definitely did take longer than it routinely should have, [member name removed]. We sincerely apologize for the delay. Estimates that you were given include a good/better/best principle, which means you're able to choose which is more important - working within a budget and using inferior parts, or choosing what the vehicle's manufacturer recommends and trusts. We understand it's challenging anytime repair costs exceed what we/you might expect, but fair market value and labor guides dictate and substantiate our fees. That said, we defer to what you feel might be best for your vehicle and circumstances."

"Thank you for the opportunity to confirm the work your vehicle needed, [Member's name removed]. We understand we're not always able to compete with the cost distributors offer other tire outlets, given we're not specifically a wheel/tire retail location. We often make up for the difference in cost through how we conduct ourselves from a customer service perspective, which is why we appreciate that you've chosen to have your recommended maintenance performed with our shop."

Initially, we were really pleased with them and then we discovered that things werent as level as they should be because every couple of months or son would come to our mechanic in our new area and we wanted him to check to make sure nothing else was wrong. We would show him receipts and he was surprised at the cost and informed us we were kind of being overcharged and the work needed to be done but it was not immediate. I felt in my experience we were up-sold and overcharged.
