LAPPAN'S OF GAYLORD

After the repair, we picked up the power washer in the fall and stored it in a heated storage area for the winter.  We took it out this spring for the first time since the repair and upon hooking the garden hose to the unit we discovered that Lappan's had removed or never replaced the thermo relief valve.  Water was simply flowing out of the front of the water pump.  We called them to ask about the plug and they told us that the paperwork says that they tested the machine for twnety minutes and that they couldn't do that without the plug in it.  We explained that we understand their comments but the plug was not in it when we picked it up.  They told us that the plug was there but could blow out if the unit freezes.  We explained that the unit had been in a heated storage area and that it did not freeze. They just kept repeating that if it froze the treaded steel plug would have simply blown out.  Obviously this is not possible when it's a thermo relief valve designed to have the center plastic piece relief out, but in our case it is irrelevant as it could not have froze.  So, as they were VERY condesending and would not help at all, we ordered a simple $5 relief valve elsewhere and replaced it..  Now, if this situation isn't bad enough, fortunately we checked the engine oil prior to attempting to start the unit.  Lappan's had for an unexplainable reason drained all the oil out of the engine.  This is not the first time the machanics at this location had done seemly unblievable and unacceptable activity.  A year prior to this, they attempted to change us three hours of labor while their machanic completed an online course to learn how to repair our SUV.  I would NEVER deal with this company again!

Hire Again:  No Approximate Cost:  $125.69 Description Of Work:  Tested for gas leak, drove around and couldn't find any issues. Adjusted valves and put new valve cover seal in. I was charged $110 for labor and $14.80 for parts and supplies.

I picked up the John Deere riding mower and tried to mow the lawn the next day. I had told them the mower sputtered and popped, so I replaced the spark plug. The mower has very little power now since they "fixed" it.  I took it back to them 6/23 and they wanted to charge me for re installing safety OSHA equipment before they even started to work on it. Of course this would cost me more $ even before they could repair the mower.  They didn't need to re install the OSHA equipment when the had it in the FIRST time and charged me $125.69. I took the mower home without letting them do anymore "repairs".

UPDATE:

I took the mower to another repair that was recommended by my landscaper. The repair man  remarked that the mower was only running on half power just by listening to the engine. He found the mower had a bad coil and was running only about quarter power. He replaced the coil and called to have us authorize replacing the 2nd coil on the other side. We agreed .  He arranged for parts over the internet and the cost of parts was half of what the local JD dealer quoted. My mower runs now, only cost $100 that included parts and labor. I gave the man $20 extra tip.

You would think that Lappan's would have heard the engine was not right after " running it around and not finding any issues. "

We have done a considerable amount of purchases at Lappan's of Gaylord $14000+ and will never do business with again.  Since they built their new  buildings, they have become very rude and incompetent and greedy. BEWARE!

Upon trying to start it the first time they brought it back, my husband noticed that there was a wire hanging from the starter and it would not start. Called them back and they were trying to say that someone had tampered with it and were very rude over the phone. They finally picked it up again and had it all through Christmas before they brought it back. They told us that it really needed a new carburetor but that it would work fine as long as you  ran it with the idle on high. It worked for about two plows and then it died. It still is not fixed. Had to end up buying another one just to get us through the winter. Could not find another small engine repair in Gaylord. Would not even consider taking it back to Lapppan's. Was very close to taking them to court for ripping us off for $500 and still not having a working snow blower. Have told and will tell everyone that Lappan's is not a good place to buy or fix your equipment.

They shortfall is communication.   I had a Toro snowblower that was less than a month old taken to them for warranty work.  It took them a week to call me.  They told the manufacture they had called me left messages, but when I called them they told me they hadn't called me because they had a truck broke down and wasn't able to pick it up.  After speaking with them it took another three days before they scheduled a day to pick it up.  Toro told me they would get the replacement parts two days after they order the parts.  Three days after they picked it up, I hadn't heard back from them so I called and they told me they were still waiting for parts.  I asked when the parts would arrive and was told "They will be here when they get here"  I asked if he could check and and was told "listen I have three other people in front of me and everybody wants their stuff fixed now"  So I waited another week without hearing from them and had the manufacture check.  They confirmed the work was completed and was on the board for delivery.  That was 2 day ago and haven't heard from them on when they would be bringing it out.
