I would not recommend doing business with Fraser Lawn Center. I took my Poulan 2000 14" chainsaw to them because it wouldn't start. They are an authorized Poulan service center. I am pretty handy, but I had a number of projects going and I did not want to take the time to figure out what the problem was myself.
My chainsaw had not been used in probably 10 years. It would not start after putting in a brand new spark plug and fresh gas, so I decided to let Fraser Lawn Center look at it and fix it. I took it in to them on 7/12. They charged me $35 upfront for diagnostics. This $35 would have then been applied to any repairs had I elected to let them work on the chainsaw.
The woman who wrote up the repair asked if it was getting spark and gas. I told her I wasn't sure on either. I also told her that the chainsaw had not been use in quite a few years, but that I had put in a brand new spark plug and fresh gas. I instructed them to call me if the repairs would be over $45 total. The woman told me I should be hearing from them within 7-10 days. On day 11, after not hearing from them, I called them to find out the status of my chainsaw. I was told it was waiting for my approval (so why hadn't they called me?), and that it needed a new spark plug, a carb kit, and a new starter pulley and rope, and that with labor the total cost for the repair would be $89. I told them not to do the repair, and went in and picked up my chainsaw.
Since my other projects were just about done, I now had time to look at the chainsaw myself. To make a long story short, the spark plug was fine and it was getting spark. The pulley and rope were also fine. The carburetor was also fine. The problem was that no gas was getting to the carburetor. The part of the gas line that goes into the fuel pickup assembly in the gas tank had disintegrated -- with a flashlight I could see the fuel pickup and the gas line, in about 6 pieces, laying in the gas tank. I dumped the gas out of the tank into a container and in doing so the fuel pickup and the pieces of the gas line tubing fell into the container as well. I have now ordered (online) a new air filter, fuel pickup, and a gas line -- for $11.25. (plus $6 in postage), and will complete the repair on the chainsaw myself. I could have saved myself $35 by not taking it to Fraser Lawn Center.
