After moving into a new home and discovering that a faulty waterproofing system was leading to a buildup of mildew, and fungus in our basement, we were referred to Atlantic Coast Waterproofing Company by a family friend.  The owner, Gary, came out for the initial onsite consultation, and we were quickly impressed by the professionalism and knowledge of the industry that he brought to the table.  After a thorough analysis of the issues and recommended steps, we agreed on a fair price for the extensive work that needed to be done to correct the issue.
Gary and his crew quickly got to work on pulling the permits necessary for the work do be done on our behalf and started the job less than a month later.  The expected completion time that was quoted was 7-10 business days, and even with uncontrollable surprises and challenges along the way, they were completely wrapped up and finished by the 10th business day.  Over the span of just a few days, the team of 3-5 individuals lugged counttless buckets of heavy stone, cement, debris, and gravel up and down the stairs.  The amount of heavy duty equipment coming in and out of our basement throughout the two weeks was amazing and the team worked hard to leave our house in a clean, organized, and functional manner when it was all said and done.  Since the work was completed, we no longer have to worry about the safety of our family living in a house with mildew in the basement and a faulty waterproofing system.
Overall, Atlantic Coast Waterproofing offers a well-managed crew led by a reputable and knowledge owner.  They will keep you informed every step of the way before, during, and after the work is complete.  I would use the company again in the future and would recommend them to others as well.

Provider was excellent, on time, professional, courteous and professional. Originally thought price was high compared to what could be purchased at Home Depot and Lowes. They installed a top quality system. Quality far superior. Price was very fair.

Gary and his crew did an excellent job from start to finish.  We felt very confident in hiring Gary (over the competition).  Gary's father started the business many years ago and he was able to learn the trade at a very early age.  Gary is now the owner and operator of the business and he takes great pride in his workmanship.  He was on-site performing the work each day-
We chose not to share our personal information in regard to cost of service.    We felt that we received "value" in the quality of work that was performed and that no short-cuts were taken.
It was a big job and we are happy with the results.  We would hire him again!

An excellent job was provided by Atlantic Coast Waterproofing, from the quoting and estimating process right through to completion.  Gary's crew who came to the house were very professional, polite, knowledgeable, and a pleasure to be around.
Gary went out of his way to take the time to assist my wife with understanding the complete task of the job at hand.  Gary kept us informed of the project details with status updates, schedule planning, and participated in conversations regarding our project and offered suggestions based on past experiences.
Gary also has a strong network of support from other contractors who work along with him.  All of these individuals were equally as professional as Gary and his crew.  They show great friendship and the ability to work side by side without any issues.
Definitely good money spent.

Select:  Angie's List really helped me in my selection of who to to invite to my house to provide a proposal.  I looked for honesty, quality, price, meeting commitments, and willingness to work with me.
Sales call:  Gary, owner of company, met my expectations of what I was looking for and in line with other reviews.  What really stands out is taking care of what is causing the problem, not just selling another product.  Gary is the only one that offered suggestions to address a problem that he did not make any money on.  He was willing to spend the time to make sure I understood the process and proposal.
Cost:  I am not providing details because I feel the information is misleading depending on everything being done.  I can tell you each contractor's proposal was based upon linear feet, which my house had a large basement perimeter.  I am very concerned with making sure I get the best value and trust that the contractor will deliver as promised.  I selected Atlantic Coast Waterproofing.
Homeowner prep:  This was totally my responsibility and it took a lot of time and effort.
The processes was the same for all contractors I got proposals from.  I believe Gary was the most realistic on space needed and dealing with obstacles.  Gary also was really good to work with

I had a good experience. The initial assessment of leaks in foundation was thorough and exhibited expertise and clear explanations. We sat down and talked through an estimate for each part of the job. We settled on what we wanted done and agreed on a fair price. (I have not entered the price in my review because I'd rather not share that information; it seemed fair to me). Responded quickly to calls to schedule the work. Came on the scheduled day. Had left it at "in the afternoon," which turned out to be 2pm, which was fine. Completed all work in one day. All work appeared to have been done carefully and properly. All interactions were professional. I would recommend this place based on my experience.

Gary Lustig is the owner of Atlantic Coast Waterproofing, Inc.  When he came to our house to inspect our basement and give us a quote for the repairs, he was very thorough in educating us on the cause of the leaks in our walls. It was a problem we had been battling for the last ten years.  His approach to the problem made sense to us. He quoted us a price to do the job and did not at any time add to his original quote.  He pulled a permit with the City of Troy and his work passed all inspections the first time--both during the process and at the completion.  He was ready to start the work on the date we had agreed upon and then graciously allowed us two additional days to prepare the basement since we weren't ready before he started our job. Gary was always willing to explain to us exactly what they were doing and why and always asked if we had any questions about the project. He finished the project on time! His workmen were polite and hardworking. At our house, because there are no windows that open in the basement, only glass block windows, Gary and his workers had to hand carry up the stairs endless buckets filled with cement chunks that had been excavated along the entire perimeter of the basement of our large ranch house to make a trench so that the Aqua-Flow Floor System could be installed.  Then, once it was installed, they mixed concrete and hand carried buckets of wet cement down to the basement to fill in the trench.  The cement finisher did a perfect job of joining the new cement to the rest of the basement floor. Gary and his workers did a great job of cleaning up every day leaving as little a mess as possible. One of his workers broke a hinge on our basement door as he was removing it to allow easier access to the basement, and he personally purchased a new hinge and installed it.  We were very impressed with his honesty.  We felt we were being given a fair price when we signed the contract with Atlantic Coast, but after seeing how hard everyone worked breaking up cement and carrying buckets of cement up and down the stairs, we thought the pricing seemed like a true bargain. This was not a job that we could ever have done ourselves. The best part of this whole project though is the fact that the leaks are now contained and in the especially rainy weeks we have had since completion of the job, the floor has been perfectly dry. We no longer cringe when storms come and wonder how much water we will have to mop up. We have recommended Atlantic Coast Waterproofing to others and will continue to do so.

It took us a couple months to prepare our messy basement for this job, and Gary was flexible with us about the start date. He and his crew worked h****** the job for about 4 days, starting early every morning. He did everything he told us he would, including replacing our sump pump. I was pleased with the smoothness of the cement floor replacement when the job was finished.
When we had our next big rain we found that some water was still getting in at a few places. We called Gary. He was out within the hour! He saw a few spots that needed more work. There was a hole around a pipe that led to the outside where some of the water was coming in. He had had no way of knowing that when it wasn't raining. There also was a crack behind a stairwell that needed a little more work. The biggest leak we still had was water coming in from a basement window well outside the house. Water was pooling in the well, and leaking in heavily over the base of the window, where it was absorbed by our insulation and dripping over the other side of our new drainage system, which typically catches all the water coming down the wall and carries it via the drain hose to the sump pump, which pumps it out of the house.
Gary and his crew came back on a Saturday and did all the repair work we needed. He sealed the pipe hole with cement, and did some more work around that impossible to reach crack by the stairs to insure the water would go down to the drain, instead of out into the room. The only part that wasn't covered by his original estimate was the basement window job. He dug out the earth and stones from that window well, installed a drainage pipe that led directly to his newly installed system on the inside of the house, then covered it up with gravel. On the inside, he cemented both where the pipe entered the house, and also the basement floor where the pipe went through. For all this extra work, Gary only charged us a fraction of what the job was worth. (The extra work I hired him to do probably wasn't even necessary. After that rain, but before Atlantic Coast came back, my husband removed the drywall and the insulation behind it that was under the window well. It rained again. The water didn't come in. Gary's original system worked. I just wanted the outside drain put in for additional peace of mind.)
The last thing I'd like to mention:  The people who built my house never installed a proper sump water drainage system. Gary noticed that, and hooked a 4-inch diameter hose to the sump pipe on the outside of the house and arranged it to drain well away from the house, so that water won't be adding pressure to the outside of our basement walls. He also patiently answered my countless questions about my options for what to do with the hose. He's very knowledgeable about building codes and landscaping.
Thanks, Gary. You guys did a great job, and your price was more than fair.

I am soooooooooo glad we didn't take this on ourselves. After watching a full crew of guys slaving away in a pit surrounding our house for 2 weeks, I realized that we do not really want to dig out, power wash or concrete our field stone basement. Nor do we want to tar muck the exterior of the basement. If it took them two weeks, we wouldn't have finished the same year we started. There just isn't time if you work full time. So not a weekend project.
Furthermore, I probably wouldn't have even hired a different company to do this. But these guys are real professionals. They sat down and explained the full process, checked in with us at the end of every day to discuss the progress, and showed up early every day (including Saturdays) and didn't leave til the job was done. These guys don't work multiple jobs while they're doing your project. You get their full attention. On top of it, they are politer than polite! When they came in the house for sump pump work, they even took their boots off for us, without being asked. They cleaned up after themselves, put our yard back in together, removed a bush for us that we otherwise were even planning to pay someone to remove. All the bonuses really made it extra worth it. On top of that, we have a guarantee that will pass on when we sell the house. There were things they could have cut costs on, but they didn't. They really know their stuff, and it's their business to do it right.
Bottom line? These guys really want to be employed. They want your business, they want to be working for you. It's evident in the way they'll treat you and your house.
Do it, your basement walls will thank you. For real, Atlantic is the way to go.

Gary came out promptly to provide an estimate.  The estimate alone took 2 hours as the walls are covered with drywall, so he need to remove a portion of the drywall to locate the problem.  Once identified, he explained the problem and ways to prevent additional problems going forward (such as re-routing my downspouts outside).  He also inspected the rest of the basement to see if there were other issues.  He explained my repair options and the pros and cons of each.  Once I chose him to complete the work, they were able to come the next day to complete the repair, re-rout my downspouts, and also replace my old sump pump.  Overall, very happy with the service.

From initial contact to completion of the job, I was pleased with the responsiveness and professionalism of Atlantic Coast Waterproofing. At the end of each day, Gary explained what had been accomplished -- and what he planned to do the next day. When my ancient basement provided some unforeseen challenges, Gary made sure I was aware of the situation, and presented me with my options before proceeding. The job took a day or two longer than expected -- at no additional cost to me. I appreciated the thoroughness of the crew -- as well as their professional demeanor, tidiness, and careful attention to detail.

One crack in the basement wall lead us to be proactive about other issues we were not aware of, thus protecting our home from further damage.  Thank you to Atlantic Coast, Gary Lustig, and the work crew.   We are extremely pleased with the response time, the professionalism of the crew, the work completed, and the price.  We would defiantly refer Atlantic Coast and would not hesitate to call upon them in the future.

The work was finished yesterday and I could not be any happier with my results. There were extra expenses since no maintenance had been done in about 50 yrs, so that was expected. The sump pump had been incorrectly draining. That was fixed. The crack on one wall was repaired with FRP board and a space to under the split level was fixed so no more leaking from under the main part of the house.. The workmen found leaks in so many places no wonder it was flooding! All were repaired. The concrete rubbish from the basement was removed a bucket at a time by hand and the workmen in turn took all gravel to the basement by hand even though it was very hot and humid, they never slowed down. The cupboards had been removed and wood taken away as promised. Moldy drywall removed. . All brought up to code. It rained buckets yesterday and my basement was dry as a bone!
As work progressed I was kept up to date on every new discovery as we opened the can of worms that are this basement. The staff was polite an thoroughly neat and clean.   Gary Lustig, the owners son, was in charge of the work., I could not recommend him more highly. He had a wide range of problems in an basement that was desperate for maintenance and solved them swiftly  and skillfully. I would call him an old fashion craftsman rather than a repairman, taking pride in his work.
As we got further into problems (wiring not up to code, no flashing around the basement door causing leaks, plumbing problems )Gary referred me to a contractor at DEC General Home improvement Dino Campagna. No maintenance had been done on the main house since the 1960's so it was also a mess. Presently he is working on my house to bring it up to code.
If you want honest skilled work and a honest days work for your dollar. Hire Atlantic Coast Waterproofing.

About four years ago my neighbor hired a crew from a licensed waterproofing company to waterproof his crawl space. I was able to hire the same crew to do the same for my crawl space at a discounted price, but over 2 weekends, "off the company books". A few weeks ago I noticed moisture on the garage floor, and I thought it had come from the crawl space. I called the waterproofing crew's leader but he never responded to me. I joined the web site Angie's List for a recommended contractor to seek out another opinion. I called Atlantic Coast Waterproofing. Gary Lustig came to my house for a no-cost diagnosis of the problem. When he saw the moist garage floor and also examined the adjacent walls and ceiling he said he thought the problem was not a leaky crawl space but rather a leaky chimney. He then examined the outside of my home and went down into the very shallow crawl space. When he finally came up he explained what he had found and showed me a few pictures he had snapped with his cell phone. I appreciated this because I cannot go under my home into the crawl space. The pictures showed the prior waterproofer had dug a 4 inch deep trench in the crawl space around the outer walls, placed (very little) gravel and pipe in the trench and connected the pipe to two sump pumps, which were linked to the sewer line. Gary explained that the prior waterproofer had cut every corner he could. For the system to be effective the trenches around the crawl space walls needed to go down to the base of the footing, which, in the case of my house, was over a foot and a half deep. The pipe in the trench was not closed off with end caps. Bleeder holes were not drilled in the hollow blocks around the crawl space to release the water that was accumulating. The sump pump crocks were not installed properly and were standing 6 inches above the crawl space dirt floor. The sump pumps should not have been connected to the sewer line. The pipes used to connect the sump pumps to the sewer were not properly secured, and were angled in the wrong direction, making for a lot of extra work for the pumps. The system as installed did not protect the foundation walls or the house from ground water and excess moisture. The ground level area of the crawl space was not wet because the 4-inch deep pipes and the sump pumps kept it that way. Gary explained that the 14 or more inches between the base of the footing and the near-surface pipes was wet, with water accumulating in the hollow blocks above the footing. I hired Atlantic Coast Waterproofing to do the job correctly. While Gary estimated that the job would take 4 days, it took 5 days. As I noted above, the crawl space is VERY tight. The clearance from floor to ceiling is approximately 28 inches. I cannot imagine digging into the ground under such constrained conditions. Also, three days into the job we had over 3 inches of rain fall overnight. We have never had this much rain in such a short period of time. The newly dug crawl space trenches were flooded and had to be evacuated. 6A gravel and 4 inch perforated A.D.S. pipe with filter fabric were installed with proper gravity flow of water to two new sump pump systems. The sewer line connections were closed, and the sump pump pipes were run out the side of the house. Bleeder holes were drilled into every cavity of every block at the base of the block wall to release stagnant water that was accumulating. A new vapor barrier was placed over the entire crawl space floor. Gary took pictures as the job progressed and showed them to me. He sent me a disk with the entire collection when the job was done. The completed Atlantic Coast Waterproofing system lowered the ground water level under my home by more than 14 inches compared to the previous system I had installed. The work is backed with an unconditional lifetime guarantee, which is transferable to new home owners. I will recommend Atlantic Coast Waterproofing to anyone I encounter who has crawl space/basement water problems. From day one Gary Lustig explained things clearly and kept me informed all along the way. The crew (including Gary) worked hard doing a job which nobody I know is willing or able to do. Thank you Gary and crew!!!
