From start to finish, the service was excellent. I now have a much better appreciation for the craftsmanship of installing tile. We are so pleased with the results and would highly recommend Maloney tile and Marble.

They were awesome! I was most impressed with their eagerness to please. Any question or concern I had was quickly addressed and when I discovered a small problem 5 months after the job was completed, Steve came out to correct the situation immediately. Also, the tile work is high quality and it looks great. I'd use Maloney Tile again in a heartbeat!

Quoting process went fine. Original quote did not provide the details I was looking for and Steve accommodated my request for more specifics. Example, original quote did not mention appliance remove/replace, how moulding would be handled (removed and replaced?) or programmable thermostat for heated floor, just to name a few. Once that was settled, the job commenced. Of course demo is messy and dusty as one would expect but normally dust containment actions would be taken. A subcontracted demo crew was used. Furnace remained on, no dust barriers were installed, cabinets, appliances and electronics were not covered, etc. This resulted in many weeks worth of dust removal from entire house, borrowed air cleaners and numerous furnace filters. LESSON LEARNED: Ensure your contractor is taking dust containment actions and put it in the contract! Don't accept verbal confirmation. (On the positive side, Steve did agree to reimburse me a few hours of cleaning time, but this should not have been necessary in the first place, and was merely a "drop in the bucket" so to speak.) Regarding install there is one thing to note -- Steve DOES NOT follow generally accepted practices for movement joints. The Tile Council of North America (TCNA) standard EJ-171 and Laticrete standard TDS-256 clearly state how to handle expansion and contraction for floors. Laticrete is the name of the grout/caulk that Steve uses. In my application it meant that the perimeter of the tile (floor meets wall and floor meets cabinet base) should be caulked instead of grouted. I spoke to a Laticrete technician over the phone who confirmed what the correct installation would be. In most cases, you merely need to caulk the perimeter of the floor. Large areas would need one or more caulk joints in the middle of the floor, but that didn't apply in this case. Steve removed the grout he installed from the perimeter (more mess) and caulked those areas at my request. LESSON LEARNED: Ensure that your contractor puts in your contract exactly where grout will be used and where caulk will be used and confirm that your contractor follows generally accepted standards for tile installation. It pays to be an educated consumer so that you will have a beautiful floor for years to come. The install process was difficult, as you can see from the above, but at the end of the day, the floor looks beautiful. I would not recommend Maloney Tile, but I highly recommend porcelain plank!
Description of Work: Remove wood and vinyl flooring in Kitchen, Foyer, 1/2 bath, and laundry and install 6x24" porcelain plank tile, about 570 SQ FT. Install about 110 SQ FT floor heat with thermostat control for part of kitchen.

Stephen was prompt for the initial meeting. He was thorough and great at explaining the process. He gave us an estimated start date and he was right on the mark. Both Stephen and Mike were on site everyday during the demolition, mudding, laying the tile and grouting. The whole crew was very courteous and kept things moving along very well. Really impressed with their professionalism, attention to detail and excellent communication. The tile work looks amazing and we couldn't be more pleased with the results. We absolutely are going to be using Maloney Tile again.

The owner came to my house, exactly on time. He inspected the job, measured, recommended and quoted. After agreeing on all the details, he and his crew arrived on schedule. The job was completed on time, and as quoted. The kitchen island was removed, and moved to storage. The 3/4 in maple floor was removed and disposed of. The work area was cleaned, then a concrete board base was screw and glued in position. The tile was then placed and cut perfectly. The last day, the tile was grouted and cleaned. The project took four days to complete, which was the exact time as quoted. They were very professional and clean. The job was perfect. You may find a lower price, but you won't find better workmanship. I would definitely use tthis contractor again.

From beginning to end I was informed of what to expect, what day/times either Steve or his crew would arrive and what work would be done each day. They were always on time as planned. They were considerate and careful while coming in and out of the house and cleaned up at the end of the day. Hey provided quality workmanship and I will definitely recommend them to anyone needing a remodel that involves tile installation.

The installation of the tiles was acceptable as far as I can tell. The installer did leave watermarks and scuffs/scratches on my raised, wooden, painted hearth and there were drywall pieces and tile scraps on my lawn (technically they were left on a big pile of snow and I didn't notice this until it melted a few days later and was laying on my lawn). The entire business transaction/relations were very poor. In my opinion this is not a properly run business. The estimate seemed to go ok but clearly there were misunderstandings from the start of the transaction that were never clarified until it was too late. I have never hired a tile company before so it was a new experience for me but I feel like i was completely misled and misinformed. The contract was incorrect when it was sent to me (I had requested changes from the original estimate and they were not incorporated in the contract when it was sent to me). Scheduling was very open ended - they had no idea when they could fit the job in. I was contacted weeks after the contract was signed and then asked if I could accomodate the installation in a short amount of time. I asked for information re: start times, how many days, etc and the information given was not accurate or detailed. I was informed at that time that I needed to select the tile which was a suprise to me. On at least a few occasions I had shared my wants via email, pictures, etc and I was never informed that I needed to go find the tile on my own. Again, I think there was a misunderstanding from the start because I was under the impression that I didn't need to do anything - that Maloney was a full service tile company and not just installers. At or around that same time I was also informed that the tile price was not included in my quote/contract but I was under the impression that it was. After review of the contract I found the wording to be very ambigious. My major concern wasn't the cost of the tile (~$150) but the frustration over the fact that I'd shared pictures, ideas, etc without anyone ever saying that I needed to physically go out and take care of this myself. I felt like I was taken advantage of because I was paying apx $200 an hour for this job which is WAY more than the industry standard/other quotes I had obtained. I signed the contract and agreed to the pricing because I thought I was getting a lot more for $200 an hour than just installation. Regardless, I chose the tile, sent pictures and was informed that they'd pick up the tile for me. They ended up getting a very dark batch of the tile from the tile shop. I understand that with natural stone there is variance but there was no cross referencing my pictures, wants, etc. They didn't put any thought into it and there was clearly not any communication between the business people at Maloney and the installer. They blamed me and my sales contact at the tile store for the dark tiles. I understand that this is partially my fault because I could have hand selected the batch of tile to be used but at the same time, I didn't think this was needed. If I was going to do all of that work I would have hired an installer for $50 an hour. I requested that Maloney stop the job (and not come back the next day to grout) and return my garage door opener that they were using to get in and out of my home. I drove out to their office to pick it up (as agreed) but they didn't even have it there. So it was a wasted trip for me. Then they sent me the invoice and it was incorrect. They had failed to take into consideration that I had already paid a $300 deposit. I felt like they were trying to scam me once again. Either that or it's just another example of poor business practices. Or additinal mistakes. Whatever way you look at it - it was one more thing that wasn't done right. I paid Maloney as agreed. It was clear to me that they had no interest in having a satisfied customer but they just wanted their money.
Description of Work: Provider installed 11-12 square feet of subway tile for a fireplace surround. Did not have the provider complete the job (grout, etc).
