We were really pleased to find Ruby's Tree Service via Angie's List. Like most people in mid-Michigan, our property was hit hard by the December 2013 ice storm. This spring, we decided it would be necessary to hire a tree service to help clean up some of the storm damage to our weeping willow, and figured we should use the opportunity to also take care of some other problem trees on our property as well (like a huge, old dead oak near our driveway, and cherry and oak trees near that were too close to our home and choking out other trees).
I called a few local tree services. Two reputable (but also expensive) providers offered to come provide estimates, but warned that they couldn't even come look at our trees for a few weeks, because they were so busy. Another provider was supposed to come give an estimate, but was a no-show. Ruby (the owner) assured me they would come give us an estimate within a couple of days. It took three days, but she apologized and indicated one of their other jobs had extra work added to it. I certainly understood, considering how busy tree-removal companies are right now. They came out on a Saturday, and Ruby and Earl provided us with a competitive estimate in writing, which we accepted. They said they would be out sometime the following week, weather permitting.
Four days later, Ruby's Tree Service came out in the morning and started working. Ruby and Earl were present, along with two or three other employees. They worked hard, were friendly, and did a good job. The tree stumps were cut close to the ground, and the areas were raked and cleaned up afterward. They also accepted my neighbor's short-notice request to cut up a couple of small trees on his property at the end of the day.
Overall, we were very pleased. We hired a professional tree service once before for tree trimming - one of the big name companies - and they did an excellent job, but were cost-prohibitive. Had we been stuck using one of those companies this time, I'm sure we couldn't have afforded to have the work done. Our attempt to get quotes was sort of a "just so we know" effort, so we were thrilled to actually hire Ruby's. Don't get me wrong, paying $1,000+ for tree removal isn't cheap, but it's a deal compared to many of the companies, especially since they have more work than they know what to do with right now!

We had some very large cotton weed trees in our back yard and wanted they removed. We got estimates from 3 different places and Rubys was the best. It is a family business and Ruby came along with her husband to look at the work and give the estimate. They did a great job removing the trees and also stump grinding them. We also got some additional smaller trees removed while they were at our house and they took them out without charging too much extra. Definately recommend them.

I was so pleased with them that I had them bid on a job at my Sportsmen's club in Delta township and they matched another bid and did the job we needed done. I would have them back again.

They called before they came to give an estimate. They were very quick to respond to my initial call. They gave me a estimate on Monday afternoon and started the work on Tuesday morning. almost all the work was finished the first day. They came back the second day to grind out the last two stumps and cut down a few other limbs that I wanted removed. They worked very quickly and were careful not to damage any areas of the roof or around the house fencing. I was amazed at how quickly and how hard they worked. The only thing I would say could be improved is the cleanup of some of the woodchips on the sidewalk and front stoop that were created when the stump in the front yard was ground out. Overall though, they did an outstanding job and I would have them back in a heartbeat. Their pricing was competitive and the service was excellent.
