Homebuilders
Our home caught fire on July 21st 2012. We were contacted by Mr Schuttek (the owner/contractor) and he offered his services to rebuild our home from start to finish. We signed a contract with him with a set price. The price was the same amount the insurance company was paying us to rebuild the house. Mr. Schuttek required a total of 5 payments to be made to him. We paid him 4 of those payments in accordance with the payment schedule he set forth. The total amount he was paid was $143,703.40. The fifth and last payment was to be made upon completion of the home. We noticed some disturbing things from the start. The day after we paid him the first payment he showed up to the job site with several thousands of dollars of brand new tools and in a different (new to him) car. We requested that he show us receipts and bills of sale so we could see where our money was being spent and he refused. He also refused to tell us what the projected labor costs would be, who the sub-contractors were and what they were charging. The day before the house was to be demolished we found Mr. Schuttek at our house with his mother, father and fiance removing all our personal belongings from inside. They were loading everything up on a trailer (that he bought with the money we paid him for the rebuild). They went through our personal clothing, paperwork and even had taken boxed and canned food from the kitchen cabinets. We were extremely upset and my husband texted him to let him know we were upset and they did not have our permission to go through our belongings much less take them. They put everything back inside the house and left. This alone was a red flag and we wanted to fire him at that point but we had already paid him 20% and were afraid if we broke the contract we would be liable. He continued to show up with more brand new tools, as he obviously did not own any when he bid the job. He placed a new advertising sign for his business in our front yard that he paid to have made, or should I say WE PAID to have made. He has gotten several large new tattoos since October, that again we paid for. The work he did is actually done well and the house (what is finished so far) is built well however, he has not and will not finish the house. The last time he personally worked on the house was in late December. He has pocketed roughly $25,000.00 of our money that was allotted for things in the home that he had done cheaper than the estimate was for. In addition to that money there is still over $40,000.00 of work left to be done in the house. He deleted us and blocked both my husband and myself from his personal page on Facebook. (We knew this man personally before we hired him) He refuses to answer his phone. His fiance has deleted and blocked us also and won't answer her phone. We also now know that his parents were also in on this fraud as they were with him buying thousands of dollars worth of tools in a local hardware store on Black Friday. We have retained an attorney to sue Mr. Schuttek. We have figured up that he stole over $49,000.00 from us. We have also filed a complaint with the Attorney Generals office so that charges will be brought up on him. This is fraud of the worst kind as he took advantage of a personal friend after a major loss. Do not hire him to do anything. He is not trustworthy and is a thief and a liar.
Response from abc rental
"This is a lie. completely untrue. This customer refused to pay their bill. They expressed total satisfaction with the work that was being done until it came time to pay a bill. Then they did a 180 on me and demanded that I finish the job without being paid. They threatend me, verbally attacked me, and said they would ruin my business."
