He priced my sister's driveway at a pretty hefty price - $6200, I believe.  With that price, she asked if he could do the concrete where the asphalt ended a foot inside her fence and the end of the sidewalk to her home which borders the driveway.  He said, "No." He told her the job had to be done right away due to the weather.  When she later called to inform him that she was going to seek other estimates, he lowered the price $400 and said he would do the extras about which she had earlier inquired.  She called a second time to tell him she was having someone else come to the house to give an estimate.  He told her he had already purchased the rods and was delivering them to her driveway the next day.  He was very high pressured, expensive and unwilling to negotiate until after she told him she was looking at other personnel. She is older and severely arthritic. It appeared as though he was bullying her. She was too upset to call again.  I did; to tell him "No!!" He conceded before I had even finished telling him we would not be using  his services.

We picked LaRoma concrete from the phone book based mostly on years in business. (Before we joined A. L.) Our drive is quite wide, and we live on a main road. Another potential problem was that there is only about 3 inchs of grade away from the house to work with. Overall, they did an excellent job, excavating and setting forms and reinforcement  one day and pouring complete the next. The only negative was that I was didn't care for the sealer they recommended. I have done enough concrete work to appreciate such details as all limestone arrogates (no sandstone spalls). You use concrete for durability, so I waited 2 years to write this. Our drive still looks very good.

The driveway began to flake and chip immediately and started showing cracks within a few months.  The footings for the garage were only made 12 inches deep rather than the 42 inches required by law.  We did not find out about the footings until the inspector came as we were about to erect a garage.  When we contacted Tony LaRoma about this, he said "I can't keep up with all the zoning requirements".  The driveway is now a little over 9 years old and we are having it replaced.
