l was quoted the job would take two days, it took five. Two men at first came, then just one. They would come around 10am and stay till 9:30 pm, I wanted to scream. They flooded the house with natural gas 2 or 3 times and I had to open all the windows. Handles were broken off an unlocked cabinet in the basement that would have required the use of pliers. Before the city inspector came, I smelled gas and called the gas co., they found 2 leaks, I paid the gas co. to repair them as I didn't trust Reckinger's to do an adequate job. Later piping on the furnace started rattling and gurgling, apparently the angle of the pipe was off and causing water to pool and vibrate. Reckinger came and fixed that right away. When the city inspector came he found 7 violations, Reckinger had a non-company repairman come and do those fixes. The original workmen did find a carbon monoxide leak occurring on our hot water heater exhaust pipe. Very thankful for that. The servicemen were nice, and worked hard, I just don't feel they were qualified to work on their own. The quality of the equipment is good, but I was told it would be quieter and smaller and it's almost as noisy and large as the old system. The air conditioner is twice the size as the old one. But apparently that's what makes it an energy saver. I would not recommend them to anyone.

Reckinger’s has done work for us previously as was our go to when the furnace stopped working unexpectedly. They sent someone out the same day, found out a circuit board was bad. $325 to order it, $85 service fee. Unfortunately, they did not order it til the next day and then it took another day (two cold nights) to get it fixed. Then he said the thermostat was also bad, needed to be replaced, another $300 (for a $60 tstat), ouch. But what could we do, had to get the heat back on ASAP. Did complete the job as expected, just not pleased with the slowness to fix it and high cost once it was determined what the problem was. Would probably use another company first next time.

They have been in Dearborn forever. They are very reputable. I am very pleased with their work. They change my filter twice a year for me because I have allergies. They recommended a plumber for me. I have been using them for 17 years.

The technician was prompt, even calling before he came to the appointment.  He checked out the furnace and the duct work and was able to 'guide' more air into the 2 rooms in question.  They are bedrooms and are a great deal warmer now.

He told me that the furnace was in good working order and replacement not necessary at this time.  He also advised me that the humidifier was in working order but the water supply pipe was undoubtedly clogged with lime and of course, the unit cannot work without the water.  He suggested that in the spring, I call them and have that water line replaced and they would check out the air conditioning at the same time.

Therefore, nothing was actually "repaired" per se; but I was pleased and actually excited with the honesty.  Understand, that I fully expected to be purchasing a new furnace with a new humidifier; and he could certainly have sold me that.  I think that says a lot about the company and their employees.  When it comes time to purchase, they will certainly be called.

When I bought the home, the furnace appeared very new, and had a big reckingers bumper sticker on it.
Their office is right down the street and the work on the furnace looked very clean.
Despite this, I had heard they were expensive and almost didnt even bother calling.  Glad I did.  The service call was very professional, they fit my schedule, he spent about 30 minutes talking it over with me.  no high pressure upsell or anything.
After comparing with 2 other quotes, to my surprise, they were the cheapest (not by alot, but that could be a red flag anyway)
Based on seeing their work on the furnace, their close proximity, and price.  I went with them.
work started a few days later.  I allowed them access to my home while I was at work.  Took them 2 or 3 days, I think they were called away for some emergency jobs that extended it.
Ultimately they completed the install but they had to wait for warmer temps to charge the unit and replace the old mercury thermostat.  That was probably about a month... I might say there were a few days in the 70's that the work could have been done... But thats nitpicking.  I hadnt paid them yet anyway.
Anyway, they did complete the job, price was exactly as they quoted.  Its a year later and the system has worked flawlessly every since (I just joined for other reasons, hence the delayed review).  all in all, a very pleasant experience with a happy (cool) ending.

I spent a great deal of money to purchase a reliable, high efficiency system. I also paid more to go with a company which I thought had a very good reputation. However the job had to be competely redone after initial installation (which was a disaster). Owner responded to ensure job was done properly the second time. My trust in this company was obviously greatly damaged by my experience so it will be awhile before it can be rebuilt.

I am usually disappointed, for one reason or the other, when I hire an independent contractor to do work in my home. The latest, a furnace repair by Reckinger Heating and Cooling, our local (located just a short walk from my home) heating and cooling company, was no exception. It began when, after a brief diagnosis of the problem, I had to immediately pay a service fee of $87.50. I understand the reason for this; to protect the company against those who would say: “Thank you very much, I’ll get back with you,” then use the diagnosis to repair the furnace themselves, or have Uncle Fred do it. The fee certainly kills any incentive to get a quote from another company. If this is standard procedure, one could spend $400 on four quotes and still have a broken furnace. The right thing to do would be to apply the amount of the service fee to the final bill, but this was not the case. The service fee was separate from the final bill.  Soon after the service man departed I received a phone call from the company “parts man.” He informed me that the necessary replacement parts totaled $550, but because I probably needed to have two parts replaced, and because he did not want to “gouge” me, the cost would be $500. I agreed to proceed with the repair. When the service man returned a few hours later and began to work on the furnace I told him I to set the replaced parts aside as I wanted to keep them. He told me he could not do that; that it is company policy to keep all replaced parts. I told him that was not acceptable, I owned the parts, and if he wanted them he could pay me $200. He went outside, called his company, and returned with an apology and told me I could keep the replaced parts. After the furnace was repaired, out of curiosity, I looked up the parts (Honeywell Smart-Valve SV9500M 2674 and Honeywell Igniter Q3400A 1024) online. I easily found the igniter priced between $42 and $50. The valve was more elusive, but I did find it listed through a few distributors for between $171 and $250. I also drove to a reputable local heating and cooling parts outlet and was told I could purchase the igniter and valve for a combined price of $347.00.  I went to Reckinger and asked the owner about the discrepancy in the price they quoted me for the parts and the price I found. He said he would look into it and get back with me in a couple of days.  After five days passed and I did not hear from him I went back. He gave me some vague explanation of why they had paid the higher price for the parts, and told me preferred customers, those who sign up for regular furnace and AC maintenance, would receive a discount on repair cost. Nevertheless he told me he would send me a modest refund of the amount I paid and I could expect it in the mail in a few days. I never received that refund. I will not return to Reckinger Heating and Cooling, and not just because of the cost of the repair job. I do feel that $800 plus (at $100 per hour labor) is high for the job I had done, but perhaps that is the going rate. I will not return because I think Reckinger lacks honesty and integrity.

I was getting ready to sell my house, and they came out again to check my furnace, and said that it needed to be rebuilt. I told them that it already had been rebuilt previously, so they checked in a different place and said that it was fine--which I wasn't too happy about.

My family has dealt with them for quite a while now. They do quality work and they have a long standing reputation. They have been in business for a long time. I pay about $100 for the maintenance. I would use their services in the future too.

They are always very friendly when they come out to my house. I feel they are very professional, and they are not trying to sell me anything. They just take care of what needs taken care of. I would gladly refer them to other people looking for a reliable heating & cooling service.

They really are a professional operation. Not many companies will tell you the price is less than they originally thought. It seemed they went out of their way to be helpful and bent over backwards for me.

Steve and Tom of Reckinger Heating and Cooling completely ruined my furnace and air conditioning. They have refused to repair it and I was forced to hire another company to completely replace the furnace and A/C. They caused me to have to pay over $3000 to fix the mess they made. When I went to their shop, Steve would hide in the back or slip out the back door and leave. Also, their web site is completely inaccurate. It leads you to believe you are working with a company being run by the original Reckinger family. Steve and Tom are new owners who recently purchased the company and are ruining the Reckinger name. Beware of dealing with these people.

Paid $85 for them to come out an diagnose the problem knowing that since it was an older unit it could be something major. I was pleased when it was only 2 parts totaling $70 plus labor. When they came back and put the parts in they told us that wasn't the problem we needed an $800 part but they still charged me for the parts they put in which I feel is terrible business ethics!! Told me they would put that money toward a new unit if we went with them. After thinking about it we decided to call them to just give us a quote. I called them and they never returned my call. Very unhappy with them and will never recommend them to anyone.

I WAS NOT HAPPY WITH THE FACT THAT THEY HAD TO SEND TWO DIFFERENT PEOPLE OUT TO FIX MY FURNACE. IF THE FIRST PERSON THEY SENT WOULD HAVE BEEN MORE KNOWLEDGEABLE, MY FURNACE WOULD HAVE BEEN FIXED DAYS SOONER.
