I had a very positive experience working with Italy American to build a detached garage at my house in Summer 2019. Mike was highly professional, responsive, and transparent throughout the process. Pricing was competitive, all work was completed in a timely manner, and I am truly pleased with the quality of the service and product. Absolute professionalism. ??

Mike was friendly and professional, and answered all questions we asked. During the process he kept us informed on the progress, and the schedule of each job. We're very happy.

I needed to install railings on my porch to get the house to code for C of O. I right away liked the person they sent to give me a quote, and his explanation of options to me was terrific. While the work was pretty expensive, the railings were custom fabricated and look fantastic. The custom fabrication also added some time to the timeline. However, installation went smoothly and I have been very happy with the work performed.

Marty, a kindly older gentleman came out to our house to measure our garage and driveway for replacement. He sorta did a half-*** job of that but I thought they had probably done hundreds of similar jobs and didn't need to be precise so we signed the contract and he said they would be out in a couple or three weeks. Roughly six weeks later they called and said they could come out the next day but...there was a problem! My township was going to charge them for an extra permit or something so it was going to cost me another $1,000 for the job. Well, I cancelled the project and asked for my down payment back. They said they had already purchased the permits and wouldn't be able to get a refund so I was stuck with that expense. They gave me a refund of the balance. I feel this was a case where they figured they had the job and I wouldn't back out at the last minute, but I resented this tactic so much that I took a substantial loss to be out of the contact. I'll be more careful in the future.

Living nightmare. A project that was promised would take 4-6 weeks took over 3 months. Nothing but lies & broken promises. This is year 3 after project every day I get to look at nail pops, drywall cracks, uneven drywall taping, & plumping that doesn’t work correctly. During and after construction I picked up cigarette butts, nails & screws from my yard. I somehow ended up with 22 screws & nails in a 4 ft section of gutter. Never got an answer on how they ended up there. Pics were sent but no response. DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!

The experience was excellent. High quality workmanship, reasonably priced. Communication was great and everything went as planned. We had issues with our city that our sales rep attended a variance meeting with us. This company and its people are top notch we could not be more happy with the result

At least 3 people came out. They just finished it last week, took approximately 4 weeks. It turned out excellent. They replaced the counter top, had to level the floor, lay a new floor, put new tiles and that was done really well.

Great. Initially Mike, the son and one of the owners, came to our house and he was so sincere. He quoted us to demo the existing garage and floor/pad, pour a new footer/rat wall and floor/pad, and build the new garage. He called us the next day with the news that his Dad had just one a large concrete contract that would take all of their concrete resources for the rest of the season. We were disappointed but we did not give up. We asked Mike if we could hire another company to do the demo and pour the new pad, and they would build on it. Mike agreed and was very flexible and fantastic to work with. Our project was unique in that we wanted 9' ceilings, an 8' x 16' overhead door, fully insulated with finished drywall, and heated. While we would have loved for Italy American to have been the general contractor for the project, I quickly realized that responsibility had now fallen on me and Italy American was essentially my subcontractor for building and electrical. I completed the demo myself, filling a 30 yard dumpster to the gills. I sourced and hired a solid HVAC contractor to install the gas forced air furnace, and I dug the trench for them to run the gas line from our house to the new garage. The work product and communication from Mike and his team were excellent. They built the garage in a day or two, sided and roofed it in a day, had the electrical done in a day, and the insulation and drywall took about a week due to all of the inspections, mud, tape, and finishing. They started just before Thanksgiving and finished just before Christmas, but the bulk of the work was done in the first week or two. Mike was clear and concise, upfront and easy to understand when it came to pricing, and he was confident that they could deliver everything we were looking for. We were demanding clients and Italy American met or exceeded every one of our expectations. We would absolutely hire them again. We had a few things that needed to be fixed shortly after they finished (garage door leveled better, adding more nails to some aluminum flashing, and shortening one piece of siding), and Mike had someone out within a day or two. One of their subcontractors managed to break some fairly sizable tree limbs off of my wife's favorite tree and they paid for an arborist to come out and look at the tree and do the trimming for us. Italy American is a company with integrity that understands it's family history and values, and Mike is an invaluable asset for them.

I helped my mom manage this project remotely since she doesn't use a computer. I live in California, she's in Southgate, Michigan. I chose Italy-American because of the consistently good ratings, both on Angie's List and at the BBB. Unfortunately, I was not present for the visits and installation, but my mom wanted to express her sincere satisfaction. They were understanding of her situation, and coordinated a meeting with my mom during which they spec'd out the project at hand (the railings) as well as possible future projects. They were clear and direct about the price, and took half up front.

Installation was complete within a week or so, and they did a beautiful job. Extremely well crafted, and they matched the railings with her current fence and shutters. Compliments from all the neighbors. The price is a little steep for Downriver, but this is a classic case of "you get what you pay for." It shows in the craftsmanship, fairness, and service.

I have a 3 bedroom. The smaller bedroom, because I am handicap, I had the stack system washer and dryer put in upstairs on the main floor of my ranch home. They did a fairly good job until I found out that the installer, the one man that did the plumbing and electrical, he is not a licensed plumber or a licensed electrician. You would think that would have to be a necessity. You would think you would have to have a plumber to put the plumbing in and an electrician to do the electricity if the construction guy doesn't know how to do it. Come to find out my son has a professional plumber and I called them up. I had him take a look at the plumbing because they also took out the laundry tubs in the basement, they were old from original when the house was built. I had them removed and had a new laundry tub installed with plumbing. My son's plumber told him the things that were done wrong there and brought it to my attention. I called my bank the very next morning because I just wrote the check that day for the company to put a hold on those checks. My sons plumber said to have them take off a certain amount of money for it off the bill because this is what I would charge if I were to do this work. I addressed this to Italy American and told them that their plumbing is discrepancy because my plumber just happened to stop by and look at your work because there is something wrong here and it needs to be fixed. He looked at it and bartered a little bit with it but said he was not going to argue with me because I had been so nice. He said he would take $100 off that I had asked for and I gave that to my sons plumber and he fixed what was wrong. Now I know why you say you should always pull a permit. When they don't pull a permit it might save you a couple of hundred dollars maybe, but something is fishy there. Because the city inspector comes and looks and everything has to be up to code and the plumbing was not up to code. It was a good company and they did say they didn't want any bad reviews and they have been around so many years. The work looks really nice. They had to build out the closet a little bit and finished it up really nice. They put some shelves and lights in there. They were always on time and got the job done.

The project went very well, from ideas to design to installation.  We purchased a custom front mahogany door.  Italy American provided installation services as well as installing a faux stone façade around the entire entry way.  The final  job was excellent creating a whole new appearance to this historic home.

very professional.  We have used Italy American for many home improvement projects and will use them again if needed.

EXCELLENT!! From start to finish, the whole process was handled with absolute professionalism. I had just purchased a new home and desperately wanted a garage built before winter set in.  Frank Jr. came out to give me an estimate and sold me on the first visit that I wanted to use Italy American. Frank followed every crew through the entire process and was always available to answer any questions I had. Within a couple of weeks the old cement/asphalt was removed and the ground was prepped for new cement. The following week the new cement was poured and expertly finished. Looked fantastic! After letting the cement cure for a couple weeks Bob the building supervisor and his crew came in. In one day they had the garage built and the roof shingles that match the roof on my house installed! A few days later the crew installed a beautiful garage door with slick looking sunrise windows along the top panel. A couple days after that the siding crew did it's thing with vinyl siding that matches the house. The electrical crew followed a short time later to run electricity from the house out to the garage and install the lights on the inside & outside of the garage. They also installed a GFI outlet on the outside as well as several receptacles on the inside. Every inspection passed on the first attempt and the final inspection passed with flying colors. The garage went into use immediately!
I am thoroughly satisfied with the garage that Italy American built for me. Every crew that came to work on it was polite, professional, and cleaned up after themselves. I would HIGHLY recommend this company and will definitely use them again should I need a construction company in the future. One highly satisfied customer!!!

I found Italy American's price to be the best for smaller jobs, only 400 sq ft of ceiling. While most of the phone calls and meetings were initiated by me, Italy American was always very professional and courteous. There were a few issues with the end result, but they came back and fixed them at no extra charge. I plan on using them again in the future.
