Initial call went well, met in person promptly after first call. Dick was personable and presented himself well. Brought in a photo book with his previous work, which was great. Took his time and went over the options available to us. Is a good listener and took our ideas and translated that into a deck plan. Made helpful suggestions and made liberal use of this photo book to help explain the options and visualize what we would be getting. He helped us to choose a Trex decking with Cedar for the posts and rails, explaining that was the best compromise on price and performance.
His quote wasn't the rock bottom cheapest but far from the most expensive we received. For the materials and size of the deck we wanted, we felt his quote was fair. Overall, he was the most in tune with what we were looking for and had solid evidence of performing quality work, so we choose him.
We ran into a slight delay with City Hall and the planned dimensions. I thought Dick had the right balance of fighting for our design, but knowing when it was time to give in to City Hall. With that out of the way Dick and his crew came in and started work. Had zero issues with permits, he accurately took care of it all and passed inspection. When it comes to construction, they don't cut corners and make sure to do it right, which was reassuring. In the end we have a beautiful deck that I'm sure we won't have structural issues with down the road.
I'm happy with the result and would highly recommend Dick's Decks to anyone. Give him a shot, you won't be disappointed.
Wow, I can't say enough good things about this company. Talked to Richard on the phone and he promptly came out and gave me an estimate. I had quite a few other estimates which were outrageous. At first, I just wanted to reface my old deck by replacing the floor and railings but he informed me that the deck was sinking and off level and I would be better off rebuilding the whole deck for him to warranty it. I agreed since the old deck had been up for appx 27 years. And the price he gave me was lower than companies that just wanted to reface it. I then decided to go with him.
After signing the contract and giving him a deposit, he was out within a couple days to remove the old deck. He carried away the old scrap and then came back the next day to set the poles and start the deck. He was there for the entire time the deck was being built. It took them about four days to build it but this was only due to being rained out for a couple of those days. They worked as long as they could until it was raining so hard they couldn't do anything further. It was a very rainy week. If not for the rain, I'm sure they could have been done in two days.
Richard and his crew were very professional and even threw in a couple extras for me, like the sunburst design and some other things. I have already referred him to a couple of my friends that need a deck. He is starting on a friend of mine's deck next week. I would highly recommend D**** Decks!!
