I took the time to look up your project in our files and in the Angie's List Message Center. We provided a summary, recommending a new roof, along with photos of your current roof and sent it to you both through Angie's List (and via email directly to you) 4 days after the inspection and gutter cleaning. We do not "hard sell" or assume anyone wants a quote for further work - we can only report and recommend. We know that some companies are more pushy with their sales practices, but our experience tells us that people do not like to be pushed into a purchase. I think he did not not want to do the roof and it was fall so cooler weather. I called a roofing company who thoroughly inspected my roof, had to replace wood and did a great job with the new roof, professionalism and promptness all with a great price. I have not been impressed with my dealings with Angies list at all. I have had much better luck just picking a number out of the phone book. Please cancel my membership. At the time we looked at it - last fall - the roof was in good condition and did not need to be replaced. We did come back out to look at some repairs you might need, but since we did not hear back from you we concluded that perhaps you had decided not have the repair work done. We do install roofing year round, hot or cold weather, and we would have been happy to install a new roof for you, but we cannot recommend a new roof if you do not need one."

I want to personally address your concern so I have pulled your file to check on our work for you. Your roof was in good condition and only the minor maintenance included in the Big Deal was needed on your roof. It is always great news to know your roof is in good shape! The chimney, unfortunately, required a more extensive repair, which was not included in the Big Deal promotion. We do a lot of this type of repair and know the importance of repairing this area correctly - sealing it alone in this case would not have been in your best interest. While we did not get awarded your project we are still happy you found someone to help you out and you got a really great price to boot! We always provide a Free Estimate, in writing, so that our clients can shop around and compare! Thanks again for your feedback - we appreciate it!"

We sent you photos and an evaluation of your roof in a pdf document and it has been available to you on your Angie's List Message Center since November 4, 2013. We found no problems with your roof - it is in good condition and needs no repair work. We noted the chimney has bricks that are missing and the top of the chimney needs repair. If you have a difficult time getting into your Angie's List message Center please let us know at 248-360-3879 and we will be happy to send you the Summary Report and photos directly to your personal email address. We are sorry you have had a less than happy experience with another contractor, but we have not serviced your home since last November."

I am copying our correspondence regarding your Big Deal purchase below - you may have missed it in the Message Center on Angie's List or the email we sent you directly. Even though we did perform the service as best as could be done on a roof that needed to be replaced, we completely agreed that the Big Deal you purchased was not what you expected it to be and we advocated on your behalf with Angie's List to get you that refund. ------------------------- Below is the message and email we sent to you on December 11, 2013: ------------------------ Hi [Member Name], Sorry to hear there was a misunderstanding on the Big Deal and what it included. Just for reference - The Big Deal Inspection & Maintenance service included minor repairs for nail pops and calking where needed as well as an inspection and recommended repairs. We completed that service November 3rd and sent the recommendation for repairs and a quote. We also recommended that you need a new roof and that even with repairs the life of the existing roof (with repairs) would only be one year. We completely agree that you would not want to have the repair if you are having a new roof installed in the spring – we agree that would be a waste of funds. The Big Deal is purchased from Angie’s List and they handle all of the Big Deal sales and refunds, so you will need to contact them directly, we do not have access to your purchase or account. I will upload this correspondence and our recommendation and quote with the photos to the Angie’s List Message Center so you will have reference documentation. Update: April 21, 2014. We had signed up through Angie's List and somehow it was lost at one end or the other. Once we had made connection and the snow had melted off the roof, the inspection was completed.
The shingle that had blown off in late November, was repaired as part of the inspection. Eave trough was installed to reduce the wear on a portion of the roof that experiences significant runoff. The seal around a vent pipe had deteriorated and was replaced.
We will need a new roof in a couple of years, and they will definitely be invited for a bid.
"This member is completely correct to be upset - we somehow did not get his information on our list of Big Deal purchases and did not schedule his inspection. We had an overwhelming response to the Big Deal and it was our first experience with a promotion like this - the volume of calls was unexpected. Still, we are totally responsible for making this mistake in scheduling. We apologize for our mistake and we hope this member will allow us the opportunity to make it right."
"This member has already requested a refund from Angie’s List, and after reviewing the documentation, Angie’s List declined to refund the member for his Big Deal purchase. We have no reason to disagree with the decision by Angie’s List. The inspection and minor maintenance service was performed in accordance with the Big Deal promotional offer; we nailed down numerous nail pops, photographed a 3’ x 10’ area that needed more extensive repair work and sent the member a summary report with the photos. The member requested a quote for the additional repair work on the 3’x10’ problem area and we provided the quote. This member was prepared to hire us if we met his demand for an additional $50 discount (on top of the $150 discount we had already extended to him) for the additional work. When we declined to accede to his demand this member’s complaints began. Documentation is available on request."
