As a female that coordinates the rehab of historic homes, I have dealt with many contractors that obviously had issues working with a woman. I've even had to fire a few mid-job for issues with changing what we agreed upon, not listening to what I want done, or plain old shoody workmanship.
No problems AT ALL with ANY of the guys from Summerset! 2 homes down and they are by far my fave contractors to work with out of all the trades.
Ryan has always been the person to do my estimates. He is good at helping me 'flesh-out' the plan and decide exactly what i need where. He has also gone over the city inspection documents with me to make sure my plans are going to pass inspection. When I made a change to the design and didn't want to demo as much as I had in the beginning, he came back out and we worked out a new, creative plan to save a few walls and also my budget.
Some of the houses are pretty gross when I first start working on them and he has never batted an eye about trudging through the muck and bad smells that accompany a long-neglected home.
One of the best things about Summerset is the estimate, especially if you have a complex job. They line-item and quantify every expense so you know exactly what you are paying for, what is their responsibility and what is your responsibility.....which avoids any "miscommunication" that costs you a bunch of extra money. It is an honest estimate that is well thought out!
I'm not really sure what goes on behind the scenes, but Ryan does the estimate and his other electricians come out to do the work. Even though he is not on the job site, they must report back to him because he always seems to know exactly what is going on with my house when I call him, and its the truth because I call while I'm standing in my house and inspecting the work. Basically, he is a great point-person to go to with any and all electrical issues and knows exactly what you are referring to when you have a question about the work performed.
The electricians that work at Summerset and come out to do the work are also excellent. Quiet, clean, polite, respectful and they work quickly. In my experience, Summerset has always sent a team of 2 electricians to work on the job at the same time. I like the idea that there is a second set of eyes checking all the work and also two heads to come up with creative solutions on the fly when the historic house inevitably has an unforseen issue.
During the last job, we ran into an issue with the city inspector....he was basically giving them a moving target and wanted something different every time he came out. Again, I know it is the truth becasue I was there for the inspections. Ryan and his team were EXCELLENT about coming back to tweak what the inspector wanted and then scheduling the inspection with the city...again. They never griped or complained about the inspector (although i sure did!) and handled all the changes to the inspectors 'want list' with extreme professionalism.......probably more than I had in those moments. Ryan stayed in contact with me before and after each inspection and got his guys back out to my house quickly when needed. Did I mention he is a great point-person for complex projects???
As far as price goes, they came up mid-range on the estimates I had gathered for the first project. Not the cheapest guy, but not the most expensive either. One thing I have learned though is that the cheapest estimate is not always the guy that will do the job right and on-budget. For all the headaches they have saved me from and the trouble-shooting and extra time they have spent coming up with creative solutions for old stubborn houses, I consider them to be VERY reasonably priced and I would recommend them to anyone who needs electrical work done. Especially if you are a female and want to make sure you are getting a fair deal and want to be comfortable with the guys working in your home.
