Air Duct Master

The cleaners arrived at 9:00 am, and viewed our dwelling and basement areas. The phone estimate given was $125, however, upon inspection of our home, the price was increased to $320, due to the number of "cross mains" that we have. I reluctantly agreed to this and the work started. 20 minutes into the job, I witnessed an enormous black cloud of dust emit from my kitchen vent, which deposited a layer of black soot over the entire room. Upon inspection, I discovered the same situation in other rooms, and about 30 minutes later, witnessed the same black cloud blow out from my music studio vent. I questioned this, and was dismissed as if it was nothing. I was then told by the worker that it was necessary to sanitize the ducts, and that this would cost another $80, which I also confusedly agreed to. Upon completion of the job, I was presented with the bill, and told that they had also gone ahead and cleaned the furnace, which I had specifically already indicated that I didn't think needed to be done, since the furnace was only 2 years old. The final bill was $419.98, and when I presented him with my credit card, which he had previously indicated he would accept, he told me that he would need to charge me another 3% to use the credit card. So I wrote him a check for the amount and they left, less than 2 hours after they had arrived. Later, I also discovered dust and debris, and large balls of dust covering the floor and contents of my basement. The owner never revealed his name, and I also discovered that they had no listing in the telephone book. The only information I could find was in the original ad out of the local "Save" magazine. Though the ad indicated that the company is licensed, when I checked with the National Duct Cleaning Association, they were not listed as having a license. Subsequent to the event, I also became informed that the sanitization that they had performed is no longer recommended, and in fact, because of the chemicals used, is considered potentially more hazardous than the dust in the vents.
