Work was initiated and completed next day. Crew was professional and polite. Did a great job respecting our property and cleaning up after themselves. Work was started and completed when promised, no hidden fees or last minute changes. Would recommend as a very reliable supplier.
Description of Work
Furnace died on coldest day of the year. Michigan Building and Mechanical responded quickly within a couple hours. I got quotes from a couple suppliers for furnace and air conditioner, plus installation. MB & M was flexible on their price and matched a lower bid.

We came home on July 4 and noticed the house did not seem as cool as it should (it was close to 100 degrees outside). Noticed water on floor around furnace and frost on some of the pipes in the outside central air unit. We waited until the next morning to call because of the holiday. Explained the situation and was told to keep the Ac off so it would thaw. We had turned it off the night before. We were told they would be here between 2:00 and 4:00 pm. They called around noon and asked if they could come then. The man came about 20 minutes later, He had our AC running within 30 minutes. The gentleman was polite, efficient, the company was prompt with service. We would not hesitate to call them again if needed.
Description of Work
He first checked to make sure unit was completely thawed (our AC unit had frozen up on July 4). He checked the filter and opened up a panel on the furnace and checked that out. He then went outside and checked the coolant and said it was low, Approx. 1 lb. was added. He put a new filter in , turned on the AC and checked the temperature of the air coming from a register. He told me he had found loose King caps and that could have been a source of a leak so he tightened them.

Upon request, Sales Manager Hank Niesen came to our home, inspected our HVAC system (18 years old) and recommended new, more energy efficient options to fit our heating/cooling needs. Hank is friendly, experienced, very knowledgeable (NATE certified ) and was a pleasure to work with. We got quotes from other reputable firms, but chose Michigan Building and Mechanical to install a new system for us. Their price was competitive and they stood behind the products they sold. We decided on a Carrier Infinity modulating furnace,Two-stage Infinity Air Conditioner, Aprilaire whole-house dehumidifier and replaced our old water heater at the same time. The technicians were on-time, they carefully removed the old HVAC system and were very professional in their work installing the new system and cleaning up after the work was done. The new installation went smoothly and was completed in less than two days. When the installation was finished, Hank reviewed everything with us - installed and explained the new Infinity control thermostat and went through a complete set-up. He even submitted the rebate forms to Consumer's Energy, DTE Energy and Carrier for us. We were very pleased with Michigan Building and Mechanical and highly recommend them to any prospective HVAC customers.
Description of Work
Michigan Building & Mechanical removed the old HVAC system in our home and replaced it with a new Carrier Infinity Modulating furnace, Two-stage Infinity Air conditioner, Infinity control, Aprilaire whole-house dehumidifier and Bradford White hot water heater. The whole-house dehumidifier was connected between the forced air ducting and return air ducting and set up for humidity level monitoring on a periodic basis. The old hot water heater was drained and removed and the newer model was installed with care not to damage the energy savings tubing in the inlet and outlet connections. Since the old furnace had been exhausted through a double walled stack which combined with the hot water heater exhaust, the technicians ran new PVC for fresh air venting and exhausting spent natural gas for the high efficiency unit. At our request the two PVC pipes were combined into a flat mount plate which improved the looks of that installation from the outside of our home. New ducting was required above the evaporator unit to connect to the existing forced air ducts. The new A/C system replaced a Freon based system and now runs on Puron, a newer refrigerant which appears to handle the outside heat wave very well. When removing the old compressor unit, the Freon was captured and the unit was sealed before transporting. The new A/C was leveled and placed on a new base. Before charging the new system, the technicians placed the system under vacuum for a period of time to insure there were no leaks at the points it was soldered. A pressure check was run on the system after installing the Puron.
