- Both Washer and Dryer were severely damaged prior to delivery - most likely due to in-adequate tie-downs in the truck and the washer and dryer impacting the interior wall during transit. All the front controls were pushed in breaking the backing circuit board etc. Since the washer and dryer were in their original cardboard packing, the interior damage was not evident on delivery. When we discovered the damage and called Specialties, they instantly implied that they were not responsible and that we should call the manufacturer! We pointed out to them that they arranged for shipping and we are looking to them to fix the situation - no luck there. We ended up calling the manufacturer who basically told us to call Specialties ! After much back and forth, they finally replaced the units.
- Within 4-months or so, we had some water leaking from the back of the washer. We called the manufacturer first who suspected loose water hose and asked to check the installation. We called Specialties since they had arranged for the installation. No luck again. they told us: and quot;It cannot be installation related since it is happening after 4 months - call the manufacturer!and quot; We did and fortunately for us the manufacturer was much more responsive than our and quot;full service, local, personaland quot; supplier.
- We were offered a home chef visit or cash rebate (if we declined the chef visit). After repeated run-around and phone-calls and followup by us and our builder, it took them 6 months to issue the rebate. At one time we almost gave up - it just wasn't worth the time spent in following with with Specialties.
- We were promised a home visit by a knowledgeable service person from Specialties, to show us how to use the appliances as part of the and quot;local/personaland quot; service. Needless to say - never happened. By the time we already had another small issue with the range and once again passed on to the local distributor - who's technician was surprised that we didn't know half the features of the range and spent the time to educate us.
Given what we went through, is a big box store that bad after-all ? We would probably have paid the same or slightly less with the big-box store but we fell for the and quot;local/personaland quot; pitch from Specialties and here we are......
