I would recommend them and use their services again if need be.
On their video they note that all visible mold will be removed. (This is important both for aesthetic value and because even dead mold can be allergenic.) At the end of the 2 days we went in the basement and attic and still found lots of visible mold, some of which was easily accessible. When Brian came for a post job meeting and we showed him the mold he did readily agree to send his crew back for another day. We heard much more sanding and grinding on that day and they resprayed, but they did not recover the items in those areas so everything was covered with sawdust and a film of overspray, but the areas were much cleaner in the end. I sent him photos of the debris left by his crew in hopes he might have his crew clean the items, but he did not respond to that information, simply asking if the job was finished. It was not difficult to wipe the spray off ourselves, just time consuming and he had included a $60 charge in the quote for the plastic to cover the items and they had covered the items the first two days.
We then had a different company come and do testing in those areas for mold, (Brian offered to send his own tester, but we declined,) and the results were agreeable. We did choose to use a credit card to pay each time (you pay some before the job and the rest upon completion,) so we had recourse if there were any problems. We did pay for the 10 year warranty and Brian did agree that if we or any future homeowner had mold reappear in those areas in the next 10 years he would retreat the areas.
So while we did have an acceptable result in the end, it was frustrating while we were going through it.
Another note:The other company that did the testing said they would have replaced the insulation in the basement and cleaned the duct work, so we replaced the insulation ourselves and had the duct work cleaned by a company that specializes in that. Overall we saved money going with Elliot Environmental over other companies but had to insist they complete the job to their advertized standards and used other less expensive resources to replace the insulation and clean the duct work, which would have been included in the other company's quote.
This is a very professional, courteous company. Brian answered all my many questions thoroughly and patiently.
Holly his wife and bookkeeper was also extremely kind and helpful! They cleaned up all the mold in our
basement and came back a second time to meet with our contractor who had to replace windows and siding
to make sure all the mold was completely removed. We were extremely happy with their work!!
We had a mold inspector come back after all the work was done to confirm the levels were okay,
and we passed with flying colors, peace of mind!!! GREAT COMPANY!!! They cover the Detroit
suburbs even though they are in Bay City, MI.
Did not receive angie's list discount, however this was noticed after the fact. an email has been sent asking if they would honor it.
I received a quote within two days, and I agreed to the contract. Holly was able to schedule our work to start within days. The team arrived on time each day (two full days of removal/remediation), and were professional the entire time. I believe there were 8 on the team total, splitting up between the basement and the 2nd story. Brian was also on site each day to explain how the process was going, answer any questions, and let us see the progress. The team found more mold in the basement than originally thought (on the brick foundation behind some effervescence) but included that in the previously agreed quote. They also moved a giant claw footed tub out of the moldy bathroom into the backyard, as I wanted to reuse it as a planter. I was working outside in our lawn, and at the end of the day some of the team helped me remove a wooden pallet, which went above and beyond. They also let us put the pallet in their dumpster, as there was leftover space.
After the removal and cleaning was complete, Brian and the team left some HEPA air filters running at the house over the 4th of July weekend, and returned on the following Wednesday to apply the fungicidal coating (the last step) and pick up the HEPA air filters. Everything in the house was completely cleaned and it was like they were never there (save for the remediated walls and floors!) Both Holly and Brian followed up within a few days to check in and answer any remaining questions.
I would highly recommend Elliot Environmental to anyone needing a visual mold inspection, advice, or remediation. All of my interactions with them were pleasant and professional, they honestly answered all questions, gave excellent advice, and went above and beyond any expectations I had. They are also certified by all of the large mold remediation organizations in the industry, as well as EPA lead certified, and they offer a 10 year warranty on their remediation The travel throughout Michigan and came down to Detroit (from Bay City). Their recommendation for a mold inspector/tester was also excellent as he is top in his field.
Thank you Brian, Holly, and the rest of the team at Elliot Environmental!
11/29/2011 The workers had to return several times due to air quality testing limitations, asbestos tiles, etc. This job ended up being staggered due to several issues that occurred, and Brian and the workers were very accommodating, never having a problem with having to delay work, and one time because I did not unlock the door. I have nothing but praise for the job they performed and the kindness shown to me by all the workers. The quality of the work has been excellent, no complaints.
12/5/2011 Brian came out today and made some recommendations to me to avoid the problems with mold in the future. Very pleasant company to work with. Would definitely use them again and recommend them.
I discovered mold between the baseboards and the drywall in my finished basement after a flood in September. Unlike all of the other disaster recovery experts who only added to my anxiety by telling me I needed to tear out the whole basement right away, Brian looked at the basement and immediately put me at ease assuring me that although I had mold and needed to have it properly remediated, it wasn't too bad. He was extremely thorough in his evaluation of the area, explanation of the problem as well as the process of removal, treatment, and prevention of future mold. His written estimate came within a day or two and was easily a thousand dollars less (or more!) than the other estimates. He gladly went over another estimate I received and explained the differences between the two. They were able to start the job a week after receiving the deposit.
Brian and his men showed up at 9:00am sharp and immediately went to work closing off the basement and protecting the other areas of the house. They were finished by 4:00pm that same day and left the basement and the rest of my house spotless. The were able to remove the minimum amount of drywall necessary and were even able to salvage some of the door casings. They treated all of the floors and cinderblock walls in the unfinished portion of my basement as a precautionary step in addition to moving and cleaning any items that were in question (storage containers, etc.) When the work was completed, Brian did a walk-thru with me and explained everything they had done in the basement. He walked me around the outside of our house showing me places where our irrigation was a problem (disconnected downspouts, ground graded toward the house rather than away, etc.) causing moisture in the walls and potential mold issues in the future. He followed up with me the next week to see if I had any additional questions.
I am very happy and more than satisified with every aspect of my experience with Elliot Environmental. They were professional, honest, timely, courteous, and most importantly did great work for a very reasonable price. Start to finish, I was very comfortable with their expertise, their process, and the job that they did, and really knowing that my basement is mold free is worth every penny! I'd recommend them to anyone who may find themselves in a similar situation.
