They had to delay the install date because one of the original installers was on disability. Once they got a certified installer they came and did an excellent job. The only problem we had was we had to wait a little bit longer than expected, about 5 weeks or so because of their problem getting a certified installer. But the good point is they didn't try to go ahead and do it without a certified installer.
I called the alarm company to come out the date that we had scheduled. After they rescheduled, we had to call the alarm company to come and hook the alarm back up. That was a bit of an inconvenience but what choice did we have? They also had to recaulk on because it was hot. It looked okay but once it tried there was a bubble in it. That was no problem, they came out and redid it. They were also able to adjust the door so it was easier to slide. Their crew captain came out and he was very nice and he was able to get everything resolved. The brand is the brand and when you stick with a brand you have to put up with some of the issues that come with supply and demand.

- The quote process was not as comprehensive as I would have expected. When having new doors installed, we assumed that hardware would be on them. It was installed on 2 of the 3 doors but not the door to the garage, and we were told that was our responsibility. In addition, the salesman did not clarify that the front door would be finished but not the garage door, so we were left with natural wood to be painted on one door but a completely finished front door. The salesman should have clarified all of this up front, given the amount we were spending with Pella I expected higher level of service, or at least that this be brought up up front.
- Blinds were installed in the front door side windows when we did not want this feature.
- The craftsmanship around the front door is a bit poor compared to what I would expect given how much we paid. You can see where the nails are in the trim, there are a few finishing touches left undone.
- One of the installers was very short with my wife all day and very grumpy, in addition mumbling his frustrations and swearing under his breath when there are children around.
- The installers did not show her or I how to use the blinds. Given the grumpiness I don't think they wanted to stick around to do so.
- The blinds on the front door windows work differently on either side. One does not tilt properly. Even though we didn't want them - if we're stuck with the blinds, I'd like them to work correctly.
- I was asked to sign a form that the installation was done which I did not sign due to the door hardware and other concerns. I found it frustrating that I was asked to sign this when it stated on the form that we had been shown how to use the doors and walked around for an inspection, when the installers had not done this. However given the grumpiness I wasn't interested in dealing with them about it.
- We do like the doors a lot, they are very nice, but I suppose I expected a much higher level of service, craftsmanship, and professionalism out of a brand like Pella especially when the expense is so high.
After contacting the salesman to address these concerns, he said to expect a call the following Monday that never came. I had to call Pella myself on Wednesday and was told that she was planning to call but "had been very busy" which is a terrible excuse. The sales team blames the operations and the operations blames the sales team. They can't coordinate internally to serve the needs of the customer.
They finally sent someone out a week later to (we though) resolve the issues. Instead he just took pictures and to expect a follow up call. Which has not yet come, a week later.
The sales director told us to just have a locksmith install the garage hardware and he'd reimburse us. We'll see if the reimbursement ever comes.
Overall: DO NOT PAY THEM IN ADVANCE. If you have any problems, you will get the complete run-around from them. Lesson learned on my part. It's probably better to go to a smaller contractor than a big company like this because they really don't seem to care about resolving these problems.
Update as of 2 months later: Pella has corrected the major problems, although slowly. As I said, the doors are very nice so I do not regret purchasing the product itself. I would not pay in advance though, so as to ensure speedy service so they can secure the payment.

Yes, everything went really well. The windows fit to a T. Both the provider, Pella Company, and the sub-contractor who was hired by Pella to installed the windows were exceptionally gracious in helping to explain to us the engineering and manufacturing of the windows, the operation of them, the warranty and any other questions we may have had before and after installation. The installer was able to extract the old windows and install the new windows within a reasonable amount of time and without difficulty.
The windows perform well, open and close, as described and intended.
The installer kept the work area clean and removed all the old windows/storms and debris from the premises as needed.
Would we recommend others' to buy Pella windows and would we buy them again? Yes, without hesitation. I would say everything went according to schedule, the windows are beautiful and a big asset to our older home.
However, since we live in Northern Michigan and this is the end of July and the weather is warm, the true test will come in the cold winter months. Because of the fine reputation of Pella and the reviews we read I believe we made the right decision in going with Pella windows.
