Tandem Tile & Stone LLC

We wanted some shower safety bars installed in our shower, but were told by more than one workman that that could not be done because our present (one-piece fiberglass) shower couldn't accomodate them. So we contacted Tandem Tile to replace our old shower with a new, tile one. The owner, Steve, arrived within a few days to look at the shower space and talked to me about possibilities for the new one. He was prompt, courteous, helpful and we quickly agreed on a plan. The tiles were chosen, and I was to select all the hardware (the shower head, bars, faucets, etc). and I visited Lowe's, Home Depot, Mendards, and even went on line. But I found the assignment overwhelming. I couldn't decide! So I called Steve and pleaded for help, which he provided via his trusty aide, Bill, who did all the leg work and sent me suggestions as to what was available and what he thought would be suitable and attractive. He made my chore so easy, and I know he did a better job of selecting than I would have! Noah and Marcus did a beautiful job of setting the tile, but they also did an excellent job of demolishing our old shower, making sure there was a minimum of dust and debris, putting down materials to protect our rugs and wood floors, using some kind of machine to filter out the dust from the air, and always, always taking off their shoes or using booties to keep tracks to a minimum. Oh, and they were polite and courteous, too. When the job was done, I ralized I had made a big mistake in situating one of the shelves on the wall. I called Steve and asked how difficut it would be to move or remove the shelf. I figured it would possibly ruin a portion of the wall. But he assurred me it could be done and was there within a couple of days and did the work himself. Not only could it be done, it was done and done very well. I am so pleased with the results. I have shown my new shower to friends and to the neighborhood "inspectors" (curious neighbors ) who all agree on the beautiful workmanship. My husband and I couldn't be happier. We had the owner come out to give us an estimate for a leaking shower. He was on time, professional and knew what he has doing. We will have the work done in the spring so I will be able to advise then of how it all turns out but I have the utmost confidence that the job will be done as described. So far, I am very impressed with Steve at Tandem Tile.

I got an estimate in late September from Steve, the owner, but job couldn't be scheduled until my new countertops were installed. Work was done as promised in December. We are very pleased with the result. They needed additional bull-nose pieces, and went to The Tile Shop to get them, saving me a trip. I would definitely recommend Steve and his company.

Working with Tandem Tile was a great experience.  When problems arose, they were handled quickly and efficiently.  Steve and his crew did a wonderful job and we are so happy with our floor.  They cleaned up each day which was really appreciated.  Would DEFINITELY use them again.

Excellent service. All members of the crew were really pleasant to have in our home & their attention to detail is top of the line. This is the second time Tandem has done work for us. The first job was quite small but it was executed so well that when I began thinking about this last project, which was quite major, I did not hesitate to call them in. I am very glad I did!

Tiled a large backsplash area.  Looks beautiful, very well done and there were definitely some tricky parts
such as remove the vent hood to tile behind and working around some challenging corners.

There attention to detail of demolition phase, installation were nothing short of spectacular. They were meticulous, responsive and did a great job. extremely professional in their approach. There were great guys to have working in our home. very respectful. I am a picky retiree who has seen a lot of tile work through the years. This is the all round best I have worked with in all aspects of the job.

Tandem Tile did an amazing job! They did all the tile work in a basement bathroom remodel and a hearth for a fireplace. The outcome is beautiful! The job required a few unique fixes to old construction to get it all to work. The guys were thoughtful and made great recommendations. Several subsequent contractors doing other work commented on the quality of Tandem's work. The glass door installer for the shower, in particular, was very impressed. Definitely the best contractor experience in our whole basement remodel!

They Were not the least expensive, but outstanding work ethic. All appointments we on time as scheduled. Great communication. Exceptional attention to quality and detail. Everything was left neat and clean upon completion. Very Professional. Would definitely use them again, and recommend to others.

Scheduling was a bit slow as the team was extremely busy (plus was the holiday season). Team was very professional, friendly, and trustworthy, no qualms about leaving them at the house without us home. Work was beautiful with a great attention to detail. Owner popped by to see how things were going and to make a few suggestions. The few issues we noticed (some holes/missing grout) were corrected soon after we called about them. Our house was built in the late 40s, so the walls are all a bit cockeyed -- very glad we chose an experienced team to do the tile install as I could see how it could be botched horribly by inexperienced tiler. The finished job is just beautiful, just what we wanted, we are getting compliments galore from friends and family.

I chose this company because of the Angie's List ratings and was not disappointed.  From the original estimate to completion, Tandem was always prompt with scheduled appointments. They are not the cheapest out there, but you do get what you pay for. I would use them again in a second. Both jobs turned out excellent.

Planning Stage:
Steve and his crew were great to work with and I would definitely hire him again for any future tile work.  He was very accomodating from the very beginning.  He gave me a detailed quote and a professional write up with all the details I requested.  I was doing half the work myself of a bathroom remodel and Tandem was doing all the tile work.  I built a customer shower seat that required framing a half wall and bench seat.  Steve made a special trip back to my house to review my plans, discussed dimensions, offered ideas of other showers he has seen, and discussed any potential issues.  I thought this was escellent customer service on his part.
Pricing: 
I had 3 companies quote the job, Tandem was right in the middle, so I thought his price was certainly competitive.
Project Work:
First day, crew of 4-6 came to the house to do initial prep work.  Steve was there to coordinate everything and ensure everyone knew what the details of the project were.  After that there were two guys that did the job which took about 1.5 weeks (8:30 - 5, no weekend work).  We had his senior tile setter Rob on our job and I was really impressed with him.  His attention to detail and communication skills were above what I expected.  He called me several times to discuss potential issues and/or to confirm how I wanted a certain area of the job tiled.  This eliminated any re-work and possibility of not meeting customer expectations.  The final product looks awesome.  All the tile was installed very professionally and grout lines are all perfectly even (as close as it could be).  I used the lock box option as I had to work most days and we didnt have any issues, all Steve's guys seem like trustworthy individuals.
The only negative I could think of was Steve said they could install a dust shield from the bathroom to the bedroom (plastic cover that goes floor to ceiling).  This never was put up, but they did hang some plastic after a couple days. This did however lead to a lot of dust in our bedroom, which was a little annoying, but if that's the worst complaint I can come up with I dont think that too bad. 
Overall, we are very pleased with the outcome of the project and would definitely recommend Tandem Tile for any tile projects.

All-in-all the job was good. However I would have appreciate it being less stressful and long.  Steve estimated the amount of tile and marble we were to buy. The marble was not the correct measurements and all three pieces were too small. I paid extra to make sure each of the 3 pieces were from the same slab, The ones that were installed had weird water marks on them and not to the same standard that I purchased, they were just ok. The grout had small holes in many areas of the shower. Steve came and fixed a couple but clearly didn?t look to see if there were more, which there was a lot more that I ended up fixing. Mind you these holes aren?t real big but they are clearly present. A film was left on the tile that was difficult to remove and the tile is still a bit dull due to this. It took them 8 days to complete our shower because as they said they are picky. Too bad they were as picky about the entire job. I asked the tile installer not to pour the cement water in my lilac bush again and they didn?t do it again until the last day of the job. I guess they thought I wouldn?t notice or by then it wouldn?t matter.

There used a lock box on our door so they could come and go since there was confusion about the first day they were to being work. We stayed home and no one shower so we called. When Steve called back he said it was the next day even though we had it on our calendar and took the day off work. Too bad they don?t do reminder calls like the other companies we hire to work on our bath do.  We found that the one time they worked the longest time was when my niece was at the house since I?m uncomfortable about leaving strangers alone in our house . Then when they put a lock box the work  seemed to slow down. Perhaps I should have realized that this might not be the company for us when initially it tool they almost 3 weeks to call us back. Lesson learned.

Everything went very smoothly.  The workers were very careful about keeping the master bedroom clean and free of debris while bath work was being completed.  Demo work was completed and then we found out that tile ordered was on back order so we were idle for 1 week.  Workers were conscientious and arrived on time.  They made sure that property was tidy when leaving each day. Communication with Tandem was great. We love our new bathroom and wonder why we didn't do it years ago.
