Jon Wilson Home Inspections

Jon was extremely thorough, and took the time to answer questions, and explain anything that we didn't understand. He has a very keen eye, and spotted many details that could be overlooked by an untrained eye. His expertise and fine report gave us everything we needed to effectively negotiate concessions that we needed to finalized the contract. His years as a home builder are an excellent foundation for his current role as home inspector. Unlike many home inspectors in our area, he also provided the radon detection test, but as a separate fee. I'd definitely hire him again, and recommend him to anyone looking for an excellent home inspector. His rates are fair, as he charges at the typical market rate for these services in our area.

I arrived ten minutes early to meet with Jon for my home inspection prior to closing on the home. Jon was already there and had already begun the exterior inspection. Very thorough with the entire home and provided a detailed report on what needed to be fixed. Provided advice and tips how to do the repairs myself if I decided to do so. Very professional. Highly recommended.

He was on time, efficient, thorough, and knowledgeable.  He knows the ins and outs of old homes in Ann Arbor (circa 1920) so his knowledge there was especially thorough.  He paced the inspection well, answered all my questions, and even threw in a joke or two.  Great guy.  I would hire him again.  The other week, I sent him a quick email to ask about something, and he responded the next day.   Much appreciated.

Jon's inspection was very thorough and he explained the various systems as we went through the house. He wrote a very clear report with pictures for each item of special note.

Jon arrived early for the inspection and was waiting when I arrived. He had done some research on city and realtor websites and had information for me about building permits that had been pulled and city inspections that had been performed. He was very thorough in his inspection of the property including getting up on the roof, testing all the gas lines, furnace and water heater for leaks and carbon monoxide and climbing in the attic.
The report he gave us was very detailed and had pictures of all the problems and concerns he had for possible future problems. We used the report to help negotiate a lower price with the seller.
I was very satisfied with the inspection and would recommend Jon without reservation.

Jon arrived on time, was polite, professional, and knowledgeable. We had him inspect one house, but sadly our deal fell through. We were so happy with Jon's work on the first house, we had him come back out to the second house. Again, he did a great job. He went through all the details of the house with us. He inspected the roof and told us it only had maximum 5 years life left. We were able to take that to our sellers and they lowered our price. He inspected all the plumbing, pointed out where there had been repairs and explained how he knew. Again, we were able to bring that up with our sellers. Basically, we just felt like we knew our house better after he had left. Buying a house is a BIG deal, and we felt comfortable with Jon and felt better knowing we weren't about to buy a money pit. He told us how he's been a builder for years, and we trust his experience. He knows what he's doing and I would recommend him to anyone who is in need of a home inspector.

Jon arrived early and got right to work surveying the property and taking photos.  We started with the exterior and he got a ladder and went and inspected the roof.  We walked around the entire exterior of the house and garage examining all the details.  There were several things that I would have glanced over that Jon picked up on.  While outside the nextdoor neighboor pulled in and Jon was quick to approach and ask questions about the property.  We then went inside and started in the basement.  Jon checked all the items he could, inc. furnace, electrical, ceilings, etc.  We found cracks in the concrete slab and identified surrounding issues.  Upstairs he made notes about housing code including where GFCI outlets needed to be.  Inspecting the attic we found mold, and Jon was quick to get all the wall in the small space to investigate and take pictures.  During the exterior inspection we noticed a gas smell at the meter, Jon had left his detector behind, but came back the next day to complete this part.  All this was recapped in a online service with pictures, problems, and possible causes and solutions in a well formatted document.

I've recommended Jon to all of my clients. He's punctual, thorough, and very outgoing. I will continue recommending him to all of my future clients, and when I go to purchase my next home, I will hire him myself.

Great.. from the start Jon came across as a professional and extremely knowledgeable. He was there on time, and explained me everything. We did the radon test as well and that went great too. He was very thorough took his own time to examine everything and report back me the results and risks where applicable. He also gives a personal touch, not just by the books.. Jon was professional, friendly, and thorough. We are a young couple looking for a safe house to buy and move into. We felt Jon was very honest in his inspection of the house. He is incredibly knowledgeable of all areas. This is probably because he has built houses, done years of contract work, and now has studied the guidelines for home inspections as he has moved his profession from the building side to the inspection side of things. Knowing he has done both made me feel more confident in his ability to look at the whole picture of the situation. When he inspected the PVC piping for the laundry room he explained the difference in the piping to my husband of what was preexisting, what had been replaced, and what the issues were. He went on the roof and went in the crawl space, he wasn't afraid of getting dirty. We knew the price up front and were very pleased with how much he did for the set price. If we need another house inspected, we will call Jon again in a heartbeat.

Jon showed up on time for our scheduled meeting . We started outside and did a walk around the house checking windows, brick, siding, he checked the wood around the deck while taking pictures of small details. After the walk around he went up to the roof and looked things over. Next we headed inside to look the house over. We started in the basement where he inspected
the furnace, hot water heater, electrical panel, we looked the basement walls over and again he took pictures of anything that didn't look correct to him no matter how small the detail was. We then proceeded to the main level where he checked all the windows, tested all the outlets, checked the sinks and drains. We then moved up stairs checking the same stuff and taking more pictures. After completing the attic we talked about all the things we found. Jon sent me a detailed report complete with pictures that afternoon.
 
I was considering not doing the home inspection to save the money as the house was not very old but after having it done and not finding anything to major it gave me a peace of mind continuing with the purchase of the home.
I would like to add after we left the property Jon remembered he had forgotten to check the sump pump in the basement he contacted my relator and asked if she could go back so he could go in and take care of that. To me this speaks a lot about how Jon runs his business.

The whole experience was excellent - from agreeing to conduct the inspection in the evening and on very short notice through the inspection itself and receiving the written report within a few days of the inspection. Jon has experience as a builder and is extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of a home. He also volunteers to act as a consultant on home related problems for as long as you own the home! My sister and brother-in-law just purchased a home and I was more than happy to recommend Jon to them for the pre-purchase inspection. They were very pleased with Jon's thoroughness and professionalism as well.
