Ann Arbor Hardwoods

I hired AA Hardwoods a few years back to refinish original oak floors as well as original baseboards and window casings in my 1930s house. Some of the baseboards were painted (probably many times over the decades), and the window casings were in ROUGH shape. Michael and his team are some of the most professional contractors we’ve hired. Michael was great about realistic about expectations, given that the pieces had been in place for 85 years. He warned that some pieces might break or not be salvageable. But he was amazingly careful and saved I think all of the original parts with some small exceptions. The floors and all the other trim work look awesome. At one point when one of Michael’s staff was putting the trim in, I noticed that one piece was out of order. Michael came personally and fixed it with no problem. They did spend more time on the project than originally expected, and so were over budget by a bit. Michael was kind enough to split the overages. I would definitely work with them again, and in fact, I have a new project, which is what reminded me to write this review. Definitely recommend!

Work was done as promised, quickly, professionally, and with great care and attention to detail. The crew was amazing, dust was kept to a minimum, very little odor and drying time was very fast! We were impressed with the responsiveness and communication throughout the process. Most importantly we love the look of our new floors!

The work went very well. The sanding was very even. The finish is good - the color is less yellow than the flooring in the rest of my house.

Michael and his crew are amazing. They came in and knocked out the entire project in a couple days. They were professional and fast. I left a key with them to get into the house, and I was a little worried about that, but his crew are all complete professionals. Michael helped me pick out styles and color and he offered professional advice on matching everything up. I will recommend them to anyone I know.

Everyone I know that has had floors refinished complain about all the dust the process generated. I was very pleasantly surprised that Michael's sanding resulted in a very little dust! I am sure it is a combination of their equipment and process. Once the sanding was complete, they applied a number of samples in an area so we could choose a color. They ultimately custom mixed a very dark stain for us. The actual staining process was challenging due to the dark color. Michael assured me during the quotation process that he does quality work and that he will do whatever it takes to make sure we are happy in the end. In the end, he went above and beyond what I believe most other flooring contractors would do to make sure we were happy with the work. The stain color looks absolutely awesome in our house. We have had numerous compliments on how the floors look. We are looking at doing our stairs and will be contacting Michael.

I was pleased with the work, I thought it was a little high but I was pleased with the work. They were supposed to finish up some stuff that they promised me they were gonna finish. This was last year, that's primarily due to my fault but when I called them to get it done recently and you know I understand that it was my fault cause I didn't call them in a timely fashion but when I called them to get it done and even if I was gonna pay for it, it's been hard to get them to contact me. 

There was some little holes in the floor where they might have put in some cable wires through and I wanted them plugged cause my wife didn't like them.

They're extremely good. They'll be there when they say they're gonna be there if there is any changes they'll communicate it to you.

It was a simple project and they did great.

It was fine. They were professional. He knew what he was doing. I would sure use them again.

Amazing feels like we moved into new house!

Mike was very easy to work with. From the initial contact via email to the onsite estimate. He was quick to respond and was willing to work within my schedule (within reason) to schedule the appointment. I had them fill in a hole in my floor that was left from removing my fireplace and screen and refinish the entire room. The two guys that did the work were very polite and made sure everything was cleaned up before hand. The dustless system they use is amazing. No plastic or any other barriers had to be hung, nor did I need to cover anything in the attaching rooms. There was no dust or sawdust anywhere in my house when they were done. I'm looking forward to working with Mike and his team again this winter when we will be adding wood to our walls to create an inlay to frame in our TV.

The work was outstanding. Obtaining an estimate was done very quickly...only several days after it was requested. The cost was acceptable and competitive. The job was scheduled, and the flooring crew showed up as planned. The two and three man crew worked very professionally, explained the work to be done, and completed the work on time. At the end of day, a thorough clean-up was performed. The quality of the work was outstanding. The "new" floor looks fantastic and exceeded our expectations. It was really fantastic that near the end of the project the owner came and double checked all the work, and walked us through the proper maintenance of the floor. It was a good experience, and we would use them again, and greatly recommend them to anyone looking for a hardwood floor refinishing.

The floors look beautiful.  We are extremely pleased with the work.  Michael, the owner, provided a very detailed list of all the steps involved and cost in the original estimate.  He helped me chose a finish that would work with a busy house with pets. The final cost was consistent with his original estimate.  His crew, Sean and John, were very professional and always cleaned up as much as possible every evening so we could move around our house during the work.  They kept me informed of where they were in the process and finished within their time estimate.  Michael came on most days to survey the work.  Michael is very meticulous and treats your house like it was his own.  They did some very nice details around vents and the fireplace that was nicer than the original.  Very pleased and most likely will hire Ann Arbor Hardwoods in the future to do our staircase railings.

Michael and his team did a great job installing hardwood flooring in our home.  The project was large, and required significant effort to deal with the legacy flooring.  The end product looks amazing.

We needed a company to refinish hardwood floors in our new Ann Arbor home, and were looking for a black/espresso finish to match our stairway.  Michael was prompt, honest and professional during the consultation, and was competitively-priced.  Then, he even agreed to give an estimate for painting our kitchen cabinets--which we eventually decided to do as well.  We could not be more pleased with the end results.  Both the floors and cabinets look INCREDIBLE!  The guys on the crew were clean, courteous and friendly.  They stuck to the time estimate, and kept us updated throughout.  They even followed up after the job and dropped off some professional cleaning supplies!  We are picky professionals, and have used different flooring/contractors in the past.  I can say without hesitation that Ann Arbor Hardwoods is the only place to go when you need work on your floors or cabinets.  A+ rating from two very, very satisfied customers.

Estimate was informative and professional, the most in-depth estimate we received.  Although the price was higher than other estimates, we elected to go with this company due to their reputation, their attention to detail, the promise that we would love every aspect of the work, and the lower VOC products used.  Contact with the owner during the process was easy, and he was honest and helpful during each step of the process.  We are very happy with the work that was done on our floors and are planning to use this company again in the future.  Our friends have commented that it looks like we installed brand new hardwoods in our 100 year old house.

My fiancé and I had hired a contractor to refinish my wood floors based on the recommendation of a friend. We had purchased a stain from Sherwin Williams because we were trying to match it to our floors upstairs and the gentleman did not like the stain. He didn't inform us of this until after he stained it. He then sealed it the next day and told us we needed to look at it before he finished the job as the stain had clearly not been dry enough and bled through when he applied the sealer. We looked at the floor and found it didn't appear to be just an issue with the stain, but a very poor sanding job. Swirls marks and a line where the drum sander ended and edger began around the whole perimeter of the room and just a very sloppy and careless effort on his part. There was still dust all over the walls and molding and stain not just on the bottom of the molding up over half way up and in one case on the freshly painted wall. He was set to start over, but I needed a 2nd opinion. We also had a very short time frame in which we needed the work completed. I contacted Michael and explained the situation and expressed that I wasnt sure that the stain we picked was the only issue and didn't know if I should allow this contractor to sand our floors a 2nd time. Since he felt the only issue was the stain I was afraid that we would still end up with all the other issues and have to then do a 3rd sanding of the floors which would greatly reduce the life of the floors. He agreed to come out the next night and take a look and provide a quote. In the end we decided to have Michael and his company start the job over and finish the work for us. Michael was booked and couldn't start the job until the 17th which was cutting it close but he assured us it wouldn't be a problem. A few days later he informed us that they finished a job early and would be able to start in the 6th!! I was thrilled. They took their time with the sanding and made sure to get all swirls marks out so that the floors were perfect. They even cleaned all the dust out of the room left by the previous contractor and used a dust less sanding system for the job. The color Michael helped us choose was beautiful. Michael always got back to me promptly to address all my concerns. We chose a darker color for the floors and dark colors tend to show all the imperfections in the floor or sanding job which makes it that much more impressive that the floors look so perfect. They were able to correct all the issues in the floor left by the previous contractor and make them look brand new like the botched job never happened at all! I would highly recommend Michael and his crew and will happily use them in the future . Not only was the work fabulous, but so was the customer service!.
