Response from Lil Bear Construction
"Thank you for your feedback. We’re genuinely sorry to hear that your experience did not meet expectations, and I’d like to take the opportunity to clarify some points. First, I’d like to mention that my vacation had been scheduled months in advance, and no appointments or agreements were made prior to that time. Once we began the project, you were pleased with the work and continued to add more tasks, which we accommodated through progress payments instead of a single receipt at the start. Throughout the project, we cleaned up our workspace daily and consistently checked in to ensure you were satisfied. The decision to add more work was a reflection of the positive relationship we had during the earlier stages. Regarding the closet, the $200 charge was for a specific door style and three custom-sized shelves you requested—not off-the-shelf items. We also constructed the frame and drywall with trim, all of which included both materials and labor. In an effort to meet your budget, we offered a discounted alternative you agreed to. For the window framing and some unfinished portions of work: these delays were due to outstanding payments and discussions around you completing some items yourself to reduce costs. Similarly, the fireplace center was always intended as a final step, but we could not complete it due to non-payment. Concerning the flooring: initial quotes were based on carpet. When you switched to laminate (LVP), new quotes were provided to reflect the different materials and installation processes. The additional $300 charge to remove old carpet reflected the extreme biohazard conditions—pet waste saturation that required PPE to handle. We could not dispose of such material without proper fees or procedures. We left some spots unfloored due to your decision not to include the closets and the poor condition of those spaces. The baseboards in your aunt’s room were heavily damaged from pet urine. Despite this, we made efforts to reinstall them at a discounted rate. The downstairs carpet was installed properly, and we specifically advised you not to drag furniture across it. Unfortunately, we believe the carpet was pulled up due to furniture movement after our installation. Regarding other items (fan, shower door, fireplace, leftover carpet pad), we were willing to complete them, but you declined to continue payment for the final portion of the job. The ceiling fan wiring was installed for the one room. but drywall would’ve had to be removed and rewired for the second fan, which you opted not to pursue due to cost concerns. The LVP we installed included pre-attached padding, which we showed you during installation and you approved. Overall, we completed over 90% of the work. When it became clear that you were unwilling to pay the final portion, we mutually agreed to end the project and allowed you to keep the last payment to hire someone else. We truly value all of our customers and take pride in our work. We regret that this project didn’t conclude the way it began and hope this helps explain the situation from our perspective."
