First Choice Builders

I would like to share my negative experiences with a local Adrian Michigan area contractor, First Choice Builders, LLC. I hired First Choice Builders, LLC to construct an attached garage and covered porch area at my property in Blissfield Michigan. Looking back now, there were red flags that I ignored. This was an all-around horrible experience for me. The quality of workmanship in my opinion was very poor. The concrete pad for the garage cracked in multiple places, spanning the entire length of the pad. Additionally, there was a crack where settling had occurred in the corner. Numerous areas of siding and roofing drip edge have ripples and condition issues. There is a large section on one exterior wall where the siding is pushed out. The connections to the house were subpar at best in my opinion. The siding was not finished, nor was the roof ridge cap. One of the support posts for the roof porch twisted badly shortly after installation. Although they knew that the rest of the house would later be resided to match the garage, they installed materials to the old siding on the house rather than remove it. Three garage doors with openers were ordered and installed by First Choice Builders, LLC. I had numerous issues with these doors that were immediately brought to their attention. Issues included damaged panels on all 3 doors. Issues also included huge gaps between panels and on the sides of the doors, so much so that light from inside was clearly shining out multiple sections of the doors . After numerous complaints about the quality and installation of the doors, Adam (the owner of the company) agreed to refund my money for the doors ($4000) and allow me to purchase doors elsewhere. Upon hiring an actual reputable garage door company, it was discovered that the garage doors installed by First Choice Builders were installed incorrectly, with the panels in the wrong order. I had them removed and stored outside so that First Choice Builders could pick them up and try to get their money refunded for them. They still to this day are sitting in my driveway and I have yet to be refunded the $4000 for them. I made all payments according to the payment schedule, and on the last payment made I made an extra payment of nearly $2000 in good faith. This payment was to be applied to the pouring of concrete on the back patio area, and also the approach for the garage. This concrete was never completed and the money was never returned as requested. The project remains unfinished and has never passed a final inspection by the building inspectors. All permits have expired. I provided Adam and First Choice Builders with options to either correct and finish the work, or compensate me, neither of which has happened to date. Adam is a building inspector for Raisin Township and I expected a much better experience than this. In an effort to release all liability for the job, Adam did offer a compensation amount that did not even cover the garage doors, concrete payment, and finished the project. At this point I have no other options other than to pursue legal action and share my negative experience with others. This is a summarized version of my experience and not all of the issues I dealt with. I have all text conversations and many photos to back up my claims if anyone is so inclined to see them.

Can't get anyone to call you back and can't get anyone to come back out to do the work much less give an estimate.

I am very satisfied with their work. They are really quick in their work and we don't have any problems after that.
