service was performed, and they did a really nice job. The second time,
we had them perform work on the same house, but we were living out of
state. They required our credit card information before they would go to
the site. Although, I asked how much the work would cost, they would
not give me an estimate without going to the site. Even at the site,
they did not provide an estimate. After the work was done, they told me
how much they were charging, which was about $500 more than expected
(based on previous work) and than competitor's pricing. After
arguing with Ward Electric about the issue, we eventually took the
matter to our credit card. Mr. Ward was not at all interested in coming
to a compromise or resolution. We also took the issue to the Better
Business Bureau, where it was never resolved. Ward Electric would not
substantiate their charges with itemized costs. We received resolution
through our credit card because Ward Electric did not provide the requested information,
so we ended up paying around $250 instead of
the $816 Ward Electric charged. I strongly caution people against using
Ward Electric.
"Ward Electric which has been in business for 40 years and averages 50 calls per week therefore we feel we have to respond to this very misleading review. • All out of state customers must have form of payment authorized before service is rendered. Reason; as the saying goes, some bad apples wreck it for the good ones. It is almost impossible to collect for non payment out of state. • The customer’s type of work required diagnosis and repair. We explained to the customer we would only do this work on a time and material basis. We explained this fully to the customer. The customer agreed and then gave our office their credit card information and authorization to proceed with work. • The customer had her own personal guess on what the bill would be. When she received the bill it was higher that her own guesstimate. Therefore she thought our price was too high. How do we respond to that? • The Better Business Bureau agreed the charge was legitimate and sided with Ward Electric, which is why no action was taken. • The customer dishonestly used the credit card company to take money away from our men and our company. We let it go and went on our way. We believe our hundreds of happy customers speak for themselves. Respectfully submitted, Ward Electric Co."
"How someone can write something and be so misleading. We have dealt with people like this. These are the facts, I'll let you decide. I was contacted and called out on an the evening of November 18, 2010 @ 7:56 pm. I arrived at the customer residence and as soon as I stepped out of my truck I smelt the distinctive smell of a house fire. (I was a volunteer fireman in the Grand Rapids area for 30 years) I called the Fire Dept. and stayed with the customer for the next 3 hours while the fire was exstinguished above the kitchen and garage. The fire was started by a 30 year old recessed can in his attic. (electrical fire) I shut the circuits off feeding the kitchen and garage areas. The Fire Department left and I went over electrical work needed with the customer to repair the burnt wiring in his attic. The customer stated he was considering upgrading his electrical box. I agreed and recommeded it. Ward Electric has a policy for collecting funds for emergency work at the time of service. They agreed to the work and signed a work authoriztion contract form. The customer had no complaints while I was there and no complaints when signing forms. I thought I did a good thing by showing up by 8:00 am the next morning with my crew to repair/ replace the burnt wires to make the home safe and allow the owner to start his repairs. Ward Electric believed this was good customer service in doing the right thing. My Office Staff sent out a detailed invoice on the next business day. As far as the insurance company goes, they are correct. We bill out all work to the customer and the insurance company in turn deals with their customer. We feel with the privacy laws this is the best way to handle it. I believe the most important fact that the customer stated in his words is that "Ward Electric's work was just fine. " The person telling him our prices are high was a competitor..Go Figure. Our reputation stands for the past 30 plus years; High quality work, quick service, and the best electricians in the Grand Rapids area. In no way did I ever yell at the customer's wife. This is a false statement and totally made up to enhance his story. Ward Electric feels the customers representaion to to be misleading and to be void of the facts. As the owner of Ward Electric, I stand by our 30 yers of business and hope you can read through the misleading represetation of this customer comment. Sincerely, Mike Ward- President Ward Electric."
"The member is correct we showed up immediately after the phone call to complete the work in a timely and professional manner and that the work was done properly. We were one of three electricians called-and we were the only company that could complete the job. We went to our national supplier to find these 50 year old parts. We have a 10% mark up on our products as most companies do. The customer did not like the price after she found the parts from an on-line source. We are required to buy our parts from a licensed and reputable wholesaler that has UL listed parts because we must insure and warranty the parts and we need to make sure they are from a UL Licensed supplier. We don't disagree that she can find the parts cheaper on the internet but as a licensed contractor we can not do that. -Mike Ward President and CEO Ward Electric."
