I can't in good faith recommend this roofer to other homeowners. I wrote to the Better Business Bureau of Maine (he has both a NH and Maine address but the business is registered in Maine) and sent a letter by certified mail with the following two complaints in September of 2012. 1. The ridge cap shingles that run along the top of my garage and house are the wrong color. 2. My house is a 'cape cod' style home where only the 2nd floor bathroom is dormered. That portion of the roof is considered 'low slope' and in order to maintain the manufacturer's guarantee on the life of the shingle, it must have a full waterproofing membrane under it. He did not install that. If that portion of the roof fails in the future, it will not be covered by the manufacture's guarantee. The roofing contractor agreed in writing to fixing these two items in the late Fall. He said he would write up a contract and come makes the fixes. He eventually came back with a 4 page contract written by a lawyer. I did not sign the contract as it was incredibly restrictive, unnecessary and I felt that I would be signing it under duress. This is compared to the extremely short 1 page contract I initially signed to do the work in August. Since November 2012 we have exchanged emails and phones calls that I felt were leading us in the right direction but no action has been taken on his part. I would not recommend this roofer to other homeowners based solely on the reason that he does not apply an underlayment to the main portion of your roof. He did apply waterproofing underlayment to the first 6 feet on my roof (3 feet in the normal, I paid extra for the additional 3 feet). Where that stops, there is no more underlayment applied. I was severely disappointed because during demo he was removing shingles and a felt paper underlayment, but did not re-apply one. The only reason I know the base underlayment wasn?t applied was because I stayed home sick one day. I went outside mid-day and asked where the underlayment was. He said that it was ?not in our contract?. I told him that should have been my choice, not his. It really stings since the most basic underlayment material, 15 lb felt paper, costs $0.05 per sq ft at Home Depot. A very inexpensive product. I gave this roofer an 'F' on many categories based on how poorly I feel this situation has been handled on the last 12 months.
Description of Work: Roofer was contracted to remove existing roof (2 layers) and replace roof.
