First of all the is my niece's grandfather. He has always done work on my mother's house and I've told her many times that he's charging to much. The last job he completed was to replace 8 asphalt shingles on the roof. It took 15 minutes of work and he charged $150.00. A week later my mother wanted to have 5 electrical outlets installed on the second floor. Linwood came over to a**** the job. He wanted to install 2 breakers and run the wiring up through the chimney. He estimated the job to cost $1,250.00 and my mother gave him $350.00 for supplies. I informed her again that that was to much and looked up average wages of licensed electrician in Maine. I them asked my mother to contact a family friend who is a master electrician in Massachusetts and see what he thinks. He replied that with the amount she was being charged he could drive up to Maine, take us all out to lunch, get supplies and still have plenty left over for his pocket. The day after my mother received the estimate she called Linwood to cancel the work. She politely said it was to much for her at the moment. Linwood promised to repay her for the check for supplies. @ weeks later my mother tried to contact Linwood for the $350.00. She had decided to give him some money for his time but never mentioned that to him. After no response from him she again tried to call him. All the while my brother would frequent the house to pick up his daughter, my niece. Finally Linwood's wife returned a call yelling and cussing at my mother saying that the deposit was non refundable. "Either he do the work or they keep the money". She kept screaming "He was at a F-ing funeral today". My mother, beside herself, asked to speak to Linwood as she was to excited. She exclaimed that they had contacted their lawyer. So, come Monday we're going to contact the better business bureau to determine what our options and rights are.
