There were few customers and many salespeople roaming around the store when I was there. The salespeople did not approach me or offer to assist. The salespeople were busy conversing amongst themselves. At one point, I had a question about some Lacrosse shorts around for someone to ask. The salesman that I found was having a personal conversation with another salesperson and it was obvious that I was interrupting their socializing. When I asked my question, the salesman was curt and unhelpful. He said that maybe they had what I was looking for, but that I would need to look around to see. When I went to pay for my items, there was a line. There was only one cashier and eventually, he asked for assistance. No assistance came. I could see three salespeople in the aisle talking together, not doing anything, and not assisting any customers. They could see that customers were waiting to pay but they did not make any attempt to assist. The cashier had a question for "Aaron" the "manager." Reluctantly and very slowly, Aaron came up the aisle. Interestingly, it turned out that he was the rude salesman who had been unwilling to help me with the lacrosse shorts and he was one of the three salespeople who was socializing in the aisle and watching the line of customers waiting to pay. He could see that people were waiting to pay, but he did not do anything to help. When he finally came up front, because the cashier had a question, he was unfriendly, condescending, and rude to the customers, me included. He made no attempt to open the other cash register and he was not willing to help the woman in front of me use her coupon, nor was he interested or willing to help me locate my coupon code. I was planning to purchase over $100 worth of items. If it had not been late already, and my daughter had not needed the compression shorts, I would have left the items and left the store. There was one salesperson who was polite and appeared to be busy and working while I was there. I did not get his name, but he was older, tall, and had gray hair. There are at least 4 other sporting goods stores less than 1/2 mile from this Sports Authority store. Foot locker and Olympia Sports are right in the mall. Eastern Mountain Sports and Dick's Sporting Goods are less than 1/2 mile away. Their prices are competitive and I have never been treated as poorly at any of those stores as I was at Sports Authority tonight.
Description of Work: Went to Sports Authority in South Portland, Maine, on Sat., May 11, 2013, to purchase compression shorts.
