Had the inspection failed previously and thought I had to spend a lot to get my 2002 Honda Accord inspected.  Strange thing is that it ran very well and seemed to have none of the issues that mechanics were saying (steering having issues), brake lines having issues, etc.

The first inspection they said I needed a steering rack replacement because the steering rack bushings were bad and might as well replace the whole thing ($800+ bill).  Other than that everything was ffine.  Funny thing is that I had the steering rack replaced the previous year when I was doing the inspection then.  So I went to that guy (the honda dealer) that replaced it previously and he said he did replace the steering rack but not the bushings they believe since last year they seemed fine (why would you not replace a $20 part when you are doing $800 of work?)  But he would not take responsibility for replacing the bushings now and said there are other things like ball joints and brake line issues because of the winter salt on the roads that would cost $1600 to fix.

So I went to John's Service from recommendations from Angie's List.  They did look at the steering rack bushings and did not see too much wrong with them according to my phone call to them but probably thought they should replace it.  And found the front brake pads an issue (neither two other people found this to be an issue previously).  Got the brakes fixed, steering rack bushings replaced and the car inspected.

I was satisfied I got the car inspected but it was very unsatisfying to be told so many conflicting stories about one car!

I had to return multiple times in order for the the problem to be fixed. I had an interaction with one of the mechanics, I felt was rude and unprofessional. After spending a large amount of money the problem was finally fixed, and actually the problem was not fixed that well. Overall not a good experience

They replaced something that the dealer said would cost a LOT more for a lot less. Things seem to be fine now(forget details- was a while ago). The only downside for us was it was a bit of a hike. But the service both at the front desk and on my car was excellent.

.Was driving & heard a swish/swish sound coming from my front tires when driving. Contacted John's for an appointment as they'd replaced my CV joint on the right side a month earlier & had done an excellent job. Got me in the next day. Called within an hour or so after I dropped it off w/ an estimate & explained about the pressure switch leaking oil & the locked brake caliper on the inside of the right disc which had worn the pad down to the metal and had pitted the rotor, which required replacing it to repair. Agreed to all the charges & 4 hour repair time. Called me on time, drove back the loaner car they gave me while working on the car, paid in the office & on my way. Excellent service & attitude! Took the time to explain what needed to be done & why. Price very competitive w/ local chain shops. Would repeat there again

The last repair we had done was on our VW golf.  We needed to have the rear struts replaced.  They were able to get the parts and finish all repairs very quickly.

He's one of the few honest mechanics I've ever met. He's not a cut rate person. The quality of his work is excellent. He's responsive and punctual. I'll continue to use his services in the future.
