I used his web site to schedule an appointment. His 'scheduler' two days before the appointment and asked to change the date; I said sure. Scheduler called me back a few days before the appointment and asked to change it again; I said sure. Three hours before the third appointment, she calls me back and immediately puts me on hold. Comes back on and asks to reschedule for a third time. I said, "no thanks, I'm clearly not a priority for him, so I'll find a roofer I can work with." She said, "okay, sorry".
I contacted four roofers over the past three weeks to get quotes for re-shingling my house. The other three kept the original appointments, I met with them, and I had quotes within 24 hours after the evaluations. I don't know why Mr. Deschaine couldn't honor any of the appointments his scheduler made with me, but my experience with him was well below the average of the four.
He was willing to take this small job; many other contractors did not even call me back & one failed to even show up when his office said he would.
"Thank you very much for the business [member name removed], and we all have had a great time installing your new roof."
After our recent blizzard and subsequent snow storm, I had some water leakage in my house. The roof was covered with deep snow with drifts 2 to 3 deep and had ice dams in a few locations. Somewhat in a panic I called David Deschaine's company because they had done the original roofing for the house in 2006 before I brought it. On a Sunday I used the convenient on-line appointment function on their website. Still I called Monday anyway. I spoke David, I described my problem, and the type of roof. He surprised me by giving me an immediate quote of $499, sight unseen and set up the job for the next day. He could not pin down a time, because he could not judge when his snow removal crew would be finishing each house. This seemed reasonable, but I was really surprised when the crew showed up late that Monday afternoon. They worked hard until dark. There was a lot of snow on the roof. There were great pile around the house, but they removed the snow that fell on the back deck. Before they left I asked about the removal of the ice dams. The fellow who seemed to be in charge said that they sprinkled them with ice melt. Although they worked hard, I think they were exhausted at the end of the day, and they may have been in a rush to finish and get home. The next day I looked around in daylight. They missed a spot on the roof near the front door and didn't remove snow that had fallen on the front porch. Three days later the ice dams are still there and have not reduced in size. If ice melting was applied, it is not evident. The dripping inside has stopped. Although I am happy for that I worry that the continued ice dam presence may cause me problem further into the winter. I feel I got a quick and incomplete job, and certainly not worth the money I paid. With the next storm I will look elsewhere and be sure the dams are really removed.
by"[member name removed] Like I said over the phone we had a minimum price set at $499 because of the volume of snow that was on the roofs, and when I ask how much snow was on the roof you told me "A Lot" so I gave you our minimum price of $499 because you are a past customer. As for the ice dams we can only remove so much without damaging the shingles so there may be some areas that will have to melt and/or we treated with calcium chloride to help the melting process....I'm NOT sure what you are complaining about, and we do the best we can for everyone. Thanks again for the business!"
"Thanks [removed member name], We really appreciate the business, and sorry about the cigarette butts."

"Thank You (member name removed) for this excellent review and allowing us to install your new roof. You have a very nice home and we all really appreciate your business, and you have the CertainTeed SureStartâ„¢ PLUS that covers all the workmanship and the materials for your new roof, and this is non-pro rated which covers all the materials and labor. We are your local Select Shingle Master Company so we can offer the Great Warranty Program. Thanks again for the business and have a great summer!"
The crew arrived on time and worked very efficiently and completed the new roof installation in one day. The crew was very friendly and courteous and they cleaned up thoroughly at the end of their day.
We would highly recommend David J. Deshaine, Inc.
"Thank You So Much For The Business and this NICE Review from all of us at David J. Deschaine, Inc."
"Our repair guy came out before the storm for a emergency repair, and it was dark outside, and then you wanted us to come back and look again and we did. We did the repair on your 2 1/2 story hip colonial with a 10/12 pitch roof for $349. That is what we charge as a minimum charge for roofing repairs, the cost are a truck, insurance, fuel, workman and material.... All for only $349.. Thanks David Deschaine"
DESCHAINE assured me I would have no more problems and talked about the heavy ?rubber? barriers they would put extensively around all the eaves ( ie the edge of the roof)(This is my interpretation and my "terms" of the exact details of how these problems would be resolved) - but I was assured this would do it.
The night after they started the job it rained and water was POURING through the vent in my downstairs bathroom onto my newly installed laminate flooring. Turns out DESCHAINE had installed a vent collar with a HUGH hole in it. I was concerned about the quality of workers on the job who would do such a thing.
To make a very long story shorter. With the arrival of that winter ( a harsh winter - 09-10), early on I had a VERY thick layer of solid ice on that same section of roof that was the spot of the bathroom leak and my primary area of concern. I I called DESCHAINE with concerns, I had never had ice like that - like I said - I had developed techniques to avoid the build-up of snow resulting in the ice dams. I had never had thick sheets of solid ice. DESCHAINE response was "apply ice melt", subsequent calls conveyed that nothing I did could touch this problem that "ice melt" fell off this steep roof as soon as I applied it, etc. DESCHAINE could not have been more indifferent or unconcerned and "couldn't do anything until after the winter. I finally had to give up on that portion of roof for the ice just got thicker and thicker. As spring approached I had massive leaking affecting the four floors of my home, having to put buckets int he basement to catch the water flowing thru the walls.destroying my newly redecorated bathroom. and walls on every floor of my home. Extensive leaking on the other side of the house as well as other areas where I had NEVER had problems occurred. And again damaging newly redecorated rooms. DESCHAINE REFUSED to take any responsibility. It was obvious that something DESCHAINE had done had upset temperature transference or something involving my roof. Winter ended and finally in response to my numerous calls of upset and their assurance that they would see what they could do when winter was over they sent ?their roofing supervisor? (I don?t remember if that was the exact title he used) over. He went up on the roof and said there were several ?irregularies? in the job and he would get back to me. He didn?t ? when I inquired about the follow up DESCHAINE disavowed ANY KNOWLEDGE of any such person coming to my home, that no such person existed!!! It was like being in Woderland. The bottom line was: DESCHAINE refused to do ANYTHING ? ?there are not responsible for winter leaks and it was a terrible winter! And they were not at fault ? it was my responsibility to do any need snow removal?. I have lived in this house since 1987, thru many ?terrible? and worse winters & have never had problems on the east and south sides of the house. I discovered to my dismay that All of my ? guarantees and warranties were invalid because it had been a ?roof over? not a new roof. The elaborate ice barriers they were going to install "aren?t possible with roof over?s", etc, etc. I had been told nothing of this when I asked about putting the shingles over the roof. I am 67 years old and roofing over used to be done all the time, I didn?t know it was not a good thing. EVERYONE in the roofing industry I have spoken to since this happened said ?it should NEVER have been done, they were the ones who told me my guarantees were now invalid ? not DESCHAINE! At my own expense I had to have another roofer fix my problems. As an aside, I reported this to the state and the BBB, in each case the person I spoke to ?was not surprised? I had had the problem with DESCHAINE ? I understand this is hearsay and you may have to disallow it.
When I told DESCHAINE I was going to report him to everyone I could, he threatened to sue me for liable. I would do anything to save people from going though the experiences with them that I did. If I pass someone with a DESCHAINE sign in front of their house I will stop to warn them. Someone warned me, DESCHAINE 's sign was in front of my house for most of the summer, because we had set for the job to be done in the fall. I didn't pay much attention because it was another roofer I knew and I just thought he wanted the job for himself. I am so sorry I didn't listen to him.
Your patrons should also be aware that, in my opinion, the BBB is very suspect also. This has been over a year ago and the details are foggy and I am not inclined to did out my records at this point. However, I did file a complaint with the BBB, checked their records and they had unsettled complaints against DESCHAINE , with out details. He was still on BBB's recommended list. After filing very lenghty documents with the BBB- they passed the complaint on to DESCHAINE . DESCHAINE's reply was simply, "they were not responsible for acts of the weather". That's it CASE CLOSED! The BBB would continue to have them on their approved list and this would go down as one of the "Unresolved complaints". I asked that the details of my complaint be available to those inquiring. I was told that was impossible. I don't remember now where I got the indication that businesses PAY the BBB for some of the BBB's listings.
What I did learn from this, is that a BBB approval rating is questionable and that the BBB had no real concern to get this resolved.and that DESCHAINE's response was all that was needed to end the issue.
End of story - I DO NOT RECOMMEND DAVID DESCHAINE INSTALLATIONS FOR ANYTHING!!!!!
It should be noted that my sister-in-law had work done by this company and her roof developed a leak in an area without any prior leak-history. She had difficulty getting the company to return, though they eventually did.
