I signed a contract in August 2012 with Dean MacBeth / D.H. Contractors to construct a new home in Cumberland, Maine. From the beginning, he constantly changed the plans, from the foundation to the farmers porch. Within the first couple of months, it was evident I was paying for services I would never receive, or see completed. He spend more time working on his excavator he kept parked on my property, than working on the construction site. I learned that some of the sub-contractors didn't get paid, and to my greater disbelief I learned from the town office that the job had been shut down without my knowledge because the contractor hadn't even obtained all the proper permits! Not surprising, was the fact that it was around this time that he stopped showing up to work and around January 2013 I was forced to seek legal assistance to terminate D.H. Contractors. A lien was placed on my property due to one of his sub-contractors not getting paid. To make matters even more traumatic, he built the garage in the wrong location, which forced me to remove the back corner of the garage in order to remain within the Cumberland, Maine building codes. He never hired a surveyor and the blame was put on the homeowner.
