The waste water shorted out our water tank so we had no water, no septic and no plumber that would go down there to fix it. It is possible to buff and polish your floors yourself, but DIY floor polishing is an extremely time-consuming process that isn’t particularly enjoyable. To do the work yourself, you’ll usually need to clean your floors, get on your hands and knees to apply polish manually with a cloth, and avoid puddles and oversaturation. Hiring a professional floor polisher is usually worthwhile because they have industrial equipment that buffs and polishes in a fraction of the time and usually leaves a more even coat.

The restoration or polishing process can take anywhere from a few hours to several days, depending on the size, condition of the stone, and accessibility.

When cleaning your patio, you’ll need to ensure the chemicals you use aren’t harsh enough to destroy the seal or stones. You can clean the stones with a mixture of white vinegar and water or soapy water and a scrub brush. Just be sure not to use wire brushes, as these can scratch the surface. 

Granite should be resealed every 12 to 18 months, depending on the color and usage. Lighter granite needs to be resealed more frequently than darker colors. If you use acidic cleaners or prepare food on the surface regularly, you must reseal the surface more frequently. Without proper sealing, granite is vulnerable to staining. You can tell if your countertop needs to be resealed by placing a wet paper towel on the counter for 10 minutes. If the water beads up, it is still sufficiently sealed; if it sinks in, it’s time to apply sealant.

The first step to resealing is a thorough steam cleaning of the tile and grout. You can do this by renting a tile and grout cleaner for $80 a day. Once you’re done cleaning the floor, it’ll cost $30 to $40 per quart for sealant. Or, you can hire a pro who will charge $1 to $2 per square foot for cleaning and resealing services.
