Financial Planning
All went ok for several years until I read on the front page of the Wall Street Journal that
the SEC fined Edward Jones 75 million $$ for making extra commissions ,"revenue sharing",
they called it, by selling certain mutual funds. Edward Jones purchased mutual funds from
7 mutual fund "families" that paid out to Edward Jones, revenue sharing commissions
for selling their mutual funds to Edward Jones clients, like me. This is on top of the normal
commissions paid to all stock brokers. (see explanations at online addresses listed below)
The fine from the SEC was for Edward Jones not informing their clients about this revenue sharing.......
which they now are required to do. In the Wall Street Journal it listed the 7 families. Every one of the
mutual funds I owned , Doug Curtis selected from those families and no others. When I called Doug Curtis and asked him about
the Wall St. Journal headline , he said he knew nothing about it. I lost my trust and left Edward Jones.
A couple of years later, 2008, 3 of my corporate bonds picked out by Doug Curtis,...... Lehman Brothers, General Motors &
City Group....... all collapsed. A very big loss for me. Clearly, I would not take advice from Doug Curtis or anyone working for Edward Jones again. Their 2012 TV ads saying how trust worthy Edward Jones is makes my skin crawl. II flip to another channel as fast as I can.
